Ren i feel, is still processing the stages of grief. He went back home. Met with joes parents. He raised money for and delivered donations for search service volunteers that worked so hard to locate joe that nite and a week thereafter. Saw his old friends. He got to really come back home. I see ren allowing himself to feel better about being on earth. His music resonates with so many, and Ren, i believe, feels a purpose for being here. But with his own health struggles getting better, his music affects people so positively that he's understanding there is good reason he's here. He is
not done on earth. But now hes giving himself permission to be happy i feel

    It is a eulogy.
Freckled Angels album has Joe's (freckled) face on the cover. And it is the first serious song he wrote, and the first song he wrote for Joe, and he sung it at Joe’s service, in front of Joe’s family and all their friends… Putting that chorus as a send-off in this song does mean closure, at lease in my view.
Also, I do agree with you that we all have a purpose, and I think Joe did too. Ren said in an interview that, after he got sick and hit some really low and dark places, he contemplated suicide himself, but - knowing what Joe’s parents went through - just could not do that to his own mum.
So… Ren did not get to save Joe, but Joe sure did save Ren.
Thanks for this one, and for all your PHILosophy :)

This was a stunningly beautiful tribute.
He took a song of pain and turned it into one of healing.
    The way, only Ren can.
Btw, there is a post on his community page about his trip to Wales.
He played this video for Joe's parents.
I highly recommend reading his beautiful words for yourself.

Great reaction. When Ren said he was going to give us a live version of Suic!de never would have thought he'd take the last part of that song and give us a new song that he would end with the chorus from the homage he'd written for Joe shortly after his passing; Freckled Angels. Beautifully heartbreaking but uplifting in the end.

Joe wrote Freckled Angels for Joe and performed it at Joe's memorial. Ren mentioned in a post prior to Su!c*de's release that when he met 8 year-old Joe he was covered from head to toe in freckles. Appreciate not only your reaction, but your time and thoughtfulness. Peace friend.

Fil, I agree with your thoughts about why Ren returned to this, and gave it a different ending, rather than leave us (and him!) in that world of darkness that your wife talked about. Very purposefully the vocalization he opens with is "Why? Why?", from his younger, less strong place. After repeating the verses from "Suicide", he transitions to the vocalization "Boy. Boy." and speaks to his younger self from a new perspective of strength, hope, and lessons learned. The pain is still there, as he clearly shows us in the closing lines, but there's a new maturity that understands the purpose of grief and loss. Ren is only the second artist in 6 years that I've followed through youtube reactions. The first is Dimash. I'm so delighted that you react to both of them on your channel...two incredible artists, both on a mission to elevate our frequencies. Sometimes lightning strikes twice, as we're reminded by the captured light in the bottle on Ren's piano.

Well done Fil. I have to say also that i believe (whether he knows it or not) when he says finally, with such emotion "I know you're gonna be ok", it is himself he is talking about. Because doing this beautiful song has provided him with the closure he needed. He had come to an intellectual closure through therapy but not the emotional. Just the way it feels to me.

I'm very interested in what you had to say about vulnerability. My older brother was very badly bullied at school so the lesson I learned was that you should never be vulnerable. My family situation taught me the same thing for slightly different reasons. I totally agree that people can use vulnerability to manipulate others. But the idea that vulnerability is power is something I haven't thought about before. I shall think on it some more.

If you watch the Knox interview Ren intellectually and logically knows there wasn’t anything he could have done that night but emotionally is another thing… the empty cup.
But notice there is a bottle of light (lights) to fill the empty cup.
The previous produced video was dark and filled with pain and frustration. This starts with that pain but continues with what Joe and all his actions has taught and given Ren. That bottle of light to fill the empty cup. Not only a crafted masterpiece but preformed extremely well with the help from Sam.

Great reaction here. Your discussion on vulnerability made me wonder if you've ever listened to Blue October. Not very well known, but amazing, especially live. The singer's ìs not only transparent lyrically, but his voice emotes incredibly. Try "Fear" either Justin's acoustic live or official video. Both great, just different.
Someone here asked for Ren's "Genesis and, similarly, both studio & live are great, just a very different vibe.

I enjoyed watching your reaction a lot! I was wondering though if you would agree or disagree on some additional thoughts I have, regarding the matter of equality. I agree to what you say, that we as human beings will never be equal in terms of having the same abilities and possibilities for what we can achieve in our lives. However, I also think that humanity should be thriving for a society in which the stronger use their powers and abilities to support the ones who have been giving the shorter end of the stick, instead of taking advantage of these powers only for their own gain. As thinking and empathic human beings we should feel obligated to support each other, to lift up those who have been dealt the pair of twos, instead of playing our lucky hand and keep all the winnings for ourselves. The second thought I have is that the luckiest hands have not actually been dealt by chance. There are players who know how to cheat very efficiently, or better, they have been given the knowledge and the connections to make the rules work in their favor. So even if you can’t accuse them of doing anything illegal, it is fair to say that their way of playing is at least immoral. It should be in the best interest of all mankind to make sure that this cannot happen. This would require some adjustment to the rules, and as many of these rules have been put in place a long time ago by the very same group that is still in charge today, it is going to be very difficult. Nevertheless, as unequal as we all are regarding our talents, we should be given equal opportunities and equal places to start from. That would guarantee that real talent and ability can grow and maybe even benefit everyone in the long run.

Ren himself has spoken, much more intelligently, on this very topic. Describing how making a partial recovery and finding success with music has given meaning to his own pain and suffering but what about those who just suffer pain and illness and die. What's the purpose of that? Any glib platitude in reply to that, sounds exactly like it is, a glib platitude.
