Great choices. Blondie Parallel Lines - fantastic album. Enjoyable video. The 70s and the UK just for the variety = nothing to touch it... Love the enthusiasm...

Also got that TUBEWAY ARMY re-issue,showed it in my tag response and had GARY NUMAN as a dinner party guest....I'm a big NUMAN fan 👍👍👍
Also got the ELLOISE 7" & 12" singles....love THE DAMNED.
Really enjoy seeing other folk with records I have and enjoy,it's always interesting to hear other people's views on them 👍👍👍
The FAIRPORT CONVENTION story you told was really interesting.

Hi George- just discovered your channel and have subscribed. Great response to the TAG thread. I also chose Parallel Lines for the Greatest Hits question. Happy NY, new sub mate..New Fast Automatic Daffodils fits The Madchester scene as being of that age and genre of baggy.. typically some of the more electronic elements came from Guy Called Gerald and 808 state, and New Order Technique. These paved the way for beats to be added into rock pop electronic music.
If you listen to Elephant Stone from the Roses and compare it to earlier tracks like Sally Cinamon it was a massive evolution of their sound thus influence.. Sane with Happy Mondays with WFL & Hallelujah being peak Madchester.
Was my time and I spent a lot of time in the scene buying records and watching bands like Inspirals which don’t get the love they truly deserve..

Hi George, My favourite Gabriel is III Melt, you must pick that one up you’d love it. The Lamb is the best Genesis album for me, maybe with Dark Side my join favourite Prog album ever. Fav Manchester bands for me are The Smiths, Magazine and the Buzzcocks. Last Splash is on my wanted list at present. I picked up Mountain Battles and love it but everybody I speak to say Last Splash is better…..I need it! Great early AA singles. Gotta be the 70’s. Gotta be England. Mike

Love the Blondie sticker, great pick for hits. Wild things, great pick, same here, but for slightly different reasons 😉. I have heard you Rise above vid being mentioned. Andy (Suffolk) is a great channel. Harris can do no wrong (except close his kitchen door). I totally agree about Andy Rourke, he made the Smiths sound (yes Marr overrated). I liked the 4 introverted Johns. I hadn't clicked sub yet but have now 👍

Hey George, appreciate it my friend! I agree the Vinyl Hunters videos are great, it’s just a shame they are into probably the only music I’m not a fan of, hard rock/metal. The 30k album collection was insane! Really
Likeable guys! Have you got the Breeders debut ‘Pod’ not as immediate as ‘Last Splash’, but a real grower. Need to get to Rise Above..I might even head out next week. Great pick with Parallel Lines. Look forward to more videos next year.

Really enjoyed that George. Given your love for XTC, and an affection for Prog, did you get on the Big Big Train? I was lucky enough to go to a new album ('Folklore') showcase at the Real World Studio and met and chatted with the band. Included of course was the great Dave Gregory. Lovely bloke.

@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934 Cheers George. We both know that 'The Lamb' is the edgiest Genesis album (and an acquired taste) but if you also like 'Selling England' you will love, I mean LOVE, Big Big Train's 'English Electric'. Similar sound, great storytelling with an English historical bent, and wonderful, often beautiful, instrumentation. Their singer David Longdon sadly died of a fall in late '21, but he was a truly outstanding singer - in my view the best 'Prog' singer of anyone outside of Gabriel or Anderson. If Big Big Train had been around in the early 70s, they'd be ageing millionaires now. Oh man, you're in for a treat.

Good one George. Some other, but not all, Factory label bands, qualify as Madchester.
    1. James - from early 80's onwards - adopted the sound later on.
    2. Soup Dragons from outside Glasgow were considered an honorary Madchester band.
    3. The Space Monkeys (1997) Late to the show but one of the best (w.r.t catching the attitude, sound and beat) - my favorite single release album of the lot
    4. Black Grape a post-Mondays band, also had the sound (1993)
    5. Seahorses (1996) post Stone Roses - had it at times
    6. 808 State (1987 onwards)
A Certain Ratio, Joy Division, Durutti Column, New Order, Crispy Ambulance, Railway Children and others, did not have the Madchester sound.

Thanks for this info. A lot of artists I'm aware of here and remember but don't own (yet?!). You mentioned the Soup Dragons as a non-Manchester contender. Do you reckon The Farm would count? Despite being from Liverpool, I always thought they had the classic Madchester sound.

    • @timholden3436
      @timholden3436 8 месяцев назад

Never heard (of the) Farm before. No releases here on the West Coast of Canada. Listening to Spartacus on Spotify and RUclips I would say they definitely have the Madchester sound. It is surprising they weren't considered "founder members" back in the day. Thanks for giving me another artist to collect.

@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934 with having 3 kids in a smaller house, it was more so having a couple 100 vynils that I didn’t want to worry about being destroyed, or rearranging every few months as the kids grow and need more room. I had my fun with them, it was time that someone got to enjoy them.
I kept politicians in my eyes by Death, climax blues band stamp album, Yngwie Malmsteen rising force marching out, Judas Priest Screaming for vengeance, couple Alice coopers, couple Black Sabbath’s, wet Willie keep on smilin, humble pie smokin, and Hank Williams Moanin the blues. Those are my for sure rares or originals, plus a few I just couldn’t let go. I kept a few newer bands as well, cicada rythym, lost dog street band, and Billy strings. But overall it’s one crate now, and I can store them guilt free.

@@georgeprior-vinylshowtell4934 side note, most of the ones I kept have the name “Pat Bouliau”on the sleeve. They were part of his record stash from the 70’s-80’s when he was a youngin. I was doing a restoration job for his father last year. His dad said that Pat loved vinyls as a kid. Sadly Pat passed away a few years ago, and his dad didn’t just want his collection sitting in a damp basement. After seeing me thumb through them like a kid in a candy shop, he wouldn’t let me refuse to take them. So I’ll probably always have Pats old vynils, I don’t feel right selling them.
