Better be worth it
$16? The most expensive cup at Starbucks is $25. Vice, wtf happened to you guys? With how 2020 has been, you’re doing a segment on coffee lol. I have to unsubscribe.
@@saucejohnson9862 ha haaaa
What's the guys coffee brand?
You obviously didn't do your research, Kopi Luwak is a lot more expensive.
"I got kidnapped there twice"
Feels like this may have been worthy of further discussion.
Sorry to hear that, but I assure you that we are not all kidnappers. And I apologize to you.
@@Swanrelaxingmusic it a quote from video lol

He was definitely expecting her to comment on the "I got kidnapped there twice" but she just let that slide 😆
you can literally hear her say "oh my god" in the background.
I'm sure if she read the Monk of Mokha she got the run-down on how it all happened. It's interesting to see a continuation of how his story progressed since the book was out
She’s the worst interviewer ever
Him: "I got kidnapped there twice"
Her: "So!.....and what do you want me to do about it? Lol
@Kurt Ensam Well if you get kiddnapped, because you got mistaken for somebody else.... you still got kidnapped
yeah i wonder why no one tries to get Yemen coffee?
"i was kidnapped twice"
@Ed Ducate Yes, Yemen is a highly vulnerable country. But it’s still dangerous to go, regardless of the reasons why
@Ed Ducate they kidnap all foreigner even the Africans who go to Yemen to cross to Saudi Arabia get kidnapped you can search the documentary on RUclips
@Ed Ducate I love you
@@Sady12 we kidnapper each other
@@Sady12 not true, he's Yemeni and the reason he got kidnapped it was a misunderstanding, I've watched his story. And this kidnapping thing didn't happen until 2015 when war started so it has nothing to do with foreigners. Now things are getting better in Yemen hopefully.
We just gone ignore he got kidnapped twice? 😭
He totally caught me off guard
does that make you want to spend $16 on coffee?
How he just skip over the whole story of being kidnapped twice?
@Kurt Ensam - thanks for clearing that up
@Kurt Ensam wow, he was only kidnapped once? What a phony. PHONY PHONY

STOP drinking from Starbucks and go support local coffee shops or Mom-and-Pop shops

Having quality coffee in a paper cup, that's sad, still lot left to learn
I mean... they probably don't have a choice.
@@ZiggaBIZ No glass cups in the US ?
It might not be paper, it could be a ceramic version of the classic paper cup. I have one and it looks exactly like the paper one, you can only really tell the difference when you pick it up. I hope that's what he's using.

Starbucks in Switzerland. But this is a cool story! And nobody's forcing you to buy the expensive coffee.

Starfucks is BURNT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
@Justin Stewart what is he trying to do to me? Is that bad?
I'm sorry guys, next time I'll keep my opinion to myself
I like how he just brushed over being “kidnapped twice”. That’s a more interesting story than coffee.
Haha I was thinking the same. Tell us more
Right? I had to rewind it twice and make sure thats what he said.
@@anwarabdullah6723 alright shimiga shmaga
As a Yemeni I can understand why he brushed over it. It’s a normal thing there you don’t even need to elaborate because it happens often, hence the “twice”. Plus, kidnapping in Yemen is a different experience.
Because he’s Yemeni. It’s not that unusual lol
I'd be more impressed with the world's cheapest cup of coffee with the same standard quality.
Bought it ,it's 50 cents a cup, straight from the coffee plantation itself in my country, Indonesia
I have a patch of shade grown coffee in Costa Rica.
It really is a lot of work harvesting clean drying coffee.
It is however a nice way to spend a couple hrs each afternoon with my dogs in the forest picking ripe coffee beans.
Sounds like heaven Gas Axe!
The most expensive cup of coffee in the world is actually $35 - $100 per cup and is Kopi Luwak
There's one thats $914 in Japan.
most expensive coffee that isn't hyped up trash and has a justified price*
Kopi Luwak a.k.a cat's ass coffee.
Kiki do u love me can you stop talking
I just turned on the coffee machine.... and it's doing its thing.... I hear noises, so i think it's working.
-Im charging $500 for medium size (100ml) + VAT.
- 1tsp of sugar: 50cent
- 5 bucks for using my cup (for eating in)
I guess now i have the most expensive coffee🌟🌟🌟

Makes a $16 coffee. Puts it in a single-use paper cup...
There's a book on this guy, The Monk of Mokha, by Dave Eggers.
Damn they really blow past the bit where he says he was kidnapped twice.... um yea her reaction to that was 😮
Yemen has a unique way to grind their coffee... 152mm HE
Lol'd
It really brings out the human suffering in the beans.
Fuckin hell lol
He just casully said how he got kidnapped 2 time lmao.
Thankfully, there's some coffee shops that are starting to open that serve Yemeni coffee that is grown locally, and I hope more and more people will be able to learn the history and just more about Yemen's culture itself.

James Hoffman: "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
I have lived in the MENA region for many years and stumbled across a local source for Yemeni beans several years ago. I don't ALWAYS buy it...but I do whenever I can afford it. It is, very clearly, the best tasting coffee I have ever had.
This is quite the ad placement for Vice.
They haven't produced any quality content for a long time, so now they have to whore themselves out to the highest bidder.
it would be but they don't do a very good job of telling you where to buy it
LOL whore themselves to the highest bidder
Can’t wait to stay awake for a whole week with this cup of coffee.
Thought this was gonna be another one of those “worlds most expensive” type videos but I was pleasantly surprised and I would buy his coffee to support the Yemeni farms. As long as it actually tastes better, overall good content.
Yemen is a beautiful country ,lived there for 7 years .
Yemen was a beautiful country until the west went over there and fucked it all up like the they did every other middle eastern country like syria, iraq , libya , ECT ECT .
@@oliverhaze4878 CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where ya from
Was low-key expecting a five-minute long video on Starbucks.
This is the most amazing story I'd heard. I never knew anything about Yemen producing coffee and how he describes the taste; it's something I'd never encounter coffee that tasted like that. Props to this guy for sourcing it to the real place.
To know Yemen is the oldest civilization of the world. Yemen has many kingdoms before nine thousand years and it was the richest country in the Arabian peninsula. Yemen is the only country that has a lot of various cultures and customs but as it is developing country all European people don't know about Yemen. So, this is just little information about Yemen. We need many months to know others what is Yemen and how was Yemen. Yemen also produces honey, onyx and spices.
People don't realize how our food gets from the farm to our plate. Coffee is very labor intensive. When I went to Hawaii I saw first hand about the entire process, and it was very enlightening. I'm surprised that coffee doesn't cost more than it is.
The way he 'talks' + her hair = wtf did I just watch?
Next video, please...
This video is weird
You watched someone trying to justify why you should pay $16 at his place when fair trade coffee is everywhere for a fraction of the price
My family made maple syrup the old- fashioned way, with the metal pails, and wood- fired evaporator, for years. Talk about labor- intensive. When we first started sugaring in the '70's, a gallon of pure maple syrup went for around $32. Check out the price today.

This Coffee makes me wanna build a baseball field in the middle of no where while reading "the boat rocker" by Terrance Mann.
Very nice to see this video. I was listening to him the other day on the radio. Look forward to have his coffee one day.
I thought the most expensive coffee was that Indonesian one that was predigested by a giant rodent?
Kopi luwak
I know this guys brother. These guys are a success story. I remember when he was trapped in Yemen and on CNN asking for help to get out. Super happy for them.
This is how I got into coffee. My experience was when I brew my own coffee and the hit of caffeine and taste at the she time.
I feel like a lot of his story was cut out.
Him: I was kidnapped, kidnapped again, explosions, expensive trip cancelled, family had to pay ransom . . . .
Her: 🥺 "✨Wow, that must've really sucked.✨"
SO MUCH of the story was cut out. Sadly for timing purposes, so much depth was lost for sure :(
The interviewer missed the “I got kidnapped twice.” lol 😂 he wanted to talk about it.
He's wearing an FP Journe watch. Major respect.
is this guy pretentious or am I just grumpy and need a coffee?....
@littlebesserwisser agree
Grumpy and need ☕
A little bit of A, a little bit of B.
I noticed at the beginning of this video it read Brooklyn NY, where in Brooklyn can one try this ☕, curious....
Coffee is super pretentious lol. This guy's just tryna sell his product
If you want some good Yemeni coffee in the states, go to Dearborn Michigan. There are a couple sprouting cafes that sell Yemeni coffee, tea, and sweets.
I usually get coffee from Mexico. Before covid, I usually drove to Mexico to buy it. At times, straight from the farmers and had my personal collection. I rarely buy coffee from the store. Since covid, I usually buy my coffee from Kean Coffee. Only chain I trust.
I thought coffee was supposed to taste like crap until my great aunt (RIP) made some 15 years ago. The coffee was locally grown.
Watching while sipping my 50 cent coffee
anyone have a link to where we can buy this coffee? I want to try it.
Where do you buy the coffee?
5 min sales pitch..imagine how many times he’s told this story
For those who live in new york city there's a Yemeni coffee spot in Williamsburg called qahwah house if you want the real thing
No reaction to the kidnapped part lol
I just got an ad about money not growing on trees😂
You should explain where to get it. You should show where to go.
Saw the title and immediately thought of the coffee in "Anger Management"
Soo... what’s the coffee seed called?
hw come d video ended soo abruptly !
Oh come on even Kerala got the same coffee labour system . This is just a cash grab nothing as .. it's just a LA thing ..
My thoughts too!💭💭💭
@RN the chukku kappi it's taste and aroma reaches here too in Arunachal Pradesh, and as my Mallu teacher use to say "it's ruchikarmaya and gives urjam".
I love her voice! So soothing!
Excellent points made by Mokhtar in this piece, and the coffee truly is smooth and wonderful.
So where can I buy this coffee in Brooklyn? Is this the new place on Bedford Avenue?
😂
Her hair looks like if Weird Al ran through a car wash

This lady looks like Chappelle wearing his wigs/costumes for the rick james skits...
Ethica Roasters in Toronto west end sell Yemen beans and its fire! (they do ship Canada/US)
This is your brain on capitalism
This is such an amazing video. Thank you
I’m good with my k-cup.
$16 for a coffee and it's in a paper cup? wtf. Respect the brew.
Not to mention it's better for the environment NOT to use disposable items......
I just had Yemeni Coffee this year, and I will say that it is the best. Usually, when I drink a Latte, I always have to have a sweetener like Vanilla, but with Yemense coffee beans, it tastes so good.
One side of Yemen selling 16 dollar cups of coffee lovin life the other side.....millions starving to death ....what a world!
No one's getting $16. As he said it goes through maybe 20 people's hands to get to the consumer and according to him that's what it costs to pay people what's fair for once.
@@dobbatron that’s not the point bro...point is Look what they’re covering instead of all the atrocity going on in Yemen they’re talking about coffee ....I wonder why... there’s literally a humanitarian crisis millions of children starving to death being blown up to bits over nothing and you’re telling me the best story they can get out of Yemen is about freaking coffee? Yeah I like to see them making money for the normal every day farmer but at the same time this story is not a paramount concern when there’s so much more going on in that part of the world right now
Ethiopia coffee is the best one in the world.
Woah almost as expensive as regular coffee in the airport
You could tell monks in the middle ages live a good life. Time and time again, they were the ones responsible for studying and increasing the quality of luxury drinks. The monks in Belgium did it with beer, monks in France did it with wine, and now I just learned monks in Yemen did it with coffee.
He just casually drops "and I got kidnapped twice" like it's routine tourism and y'all don't follow up with a question or two?!

From watching this, still not sure where I can get gourmet coffee.
Right my trying to find out myself lol
I hope the workers who process and farm the coffee beans get payed a good amount for that price tag
Probably not
That's why it costs $16. The labor from harvesting is taken into account. He explains that.
@@chrisw9122 Or that's just the cost of sending a merchant to Yemen, since few people want to enter such a dangerous country.
at $16 per cup I would go from 1 - 2 cups per day to 1 - 2 cups per month
This man and his story is also on a podcast (snap judgment) episode Monk of Mokha about 2 1/2 years ago. It's a great stories by Vice and by Snap Judgment
The intro of this video.. reminds me .... Tokyo ghoul.
How much do the farmers get paid? Come on vice, the interviewer didn't ask the right questions. If the farmer is going to get paid well fine then im on board with splurging $16 for coffee occasionally but how do I know the cafe owner isn't going to pocket like 90% of the profit
interesting i agree, I know this guy in real life so if you want I could probably ask him.
Yemen has awesome coffees but the most expensive coffee in the world is Geisha from Panama, it also holds the record for the highest scored coffee in a competition.
This guy was determined to get those beans! I'm so curious, I would probably try them.
Damn, that was not the video I was expecting, but it was still amazing

What a concept
Imagine how much Yemen cocaine cost... what if this is what those beans really were...
It always blows me away how unaware we are about the true price of food. we have no idea how subsidized our food is. same issue with banana. how come banana is so cheap, cheaper than fruit that grows here. i’d gladly drink one cup a week instead of everyday.
Jaimie(Fingers), can we find out what this guy's profit margin looks like from this ordeal...
With how much he's going on about how it helps the people in Yemen I was wondering the same thing.
I didn't see a single picker with the same fresh ass coat that that guy was wearing.
A coffee so expensive you won't even care if someone gets kidnapped twice.
Ok , instead of flaunting the price 5 x etc : WHY DONT U TELL THE VIEWERS WHERE TO GET THE COFFEE???!!! LIKE LEAVING A LINK IN THE DESCRIPTION !! Great reporting . 🤨
