Great, as always ! I did this variante in Fall, when the only snow had just recently accumulated from an early snowstorm maybe a week before. Spring snowmelt is something that obviously makes a difference (but yeah, we decided based on what we were told at Bonhomme, the night before) !
Thank you for such and honest and inspiring set of videos. It's so good to get the "warts and all" depiction that you don't often see. Thanks for learning all of these lessons, so I don't have to when I attempt this next year with my young son. There was a good chance that I would have underdone the prep/training, but after your vids I will ensure that won't be happening. I'm going to take this as seriously as the hike demands. Definitely won't be doing sketchy variants in bad weather/with snow and am being very realistic about taking every available short cut transport option/if needed! It's not a torture competition, there's no prizes for walking every step and I want to make sure we both enjoy it as much as we can. Thanks again, have liked/subscribed and can't wait to see how you get on in the rest of the stages.
If a slob like me can do it, anyone can. But the more fit you are the more fun you'll have. Watching my 20 year old daughter breeze through it was so annoying! Exactly right though - do it however you want to do it. Take a gondola. Take a bus. Whatever works for you - no one's watching! (well - unless you put it on RUclips!)
Another amazing video of your epic adventure. I'm absolutely loving your honesty. I've watched so many videos on the TMB and yours is by far the most helpful. Thank you and your lovely family for sharing 😍
Great video! The area is spectacular! Having been to all the alps, including the Slovenian alps many times, I have never hiked them, so my daughter (24), me, her mom (64) will be hiking this Sept 3rd and very excited though by that time most of that snowpack will be gone. That seemed so horrifying when I saw the water rushing off to the right of that snowy plateau. Yikes!! Thank you for sharing your trip, with each TMB video I learn something more that will help us.
Planning to hike this with my mom next year at almost exactly the same time of year as you guys did, so I really appreciate seeing what the conditions were like!
I think it's a good time to go depending on what the snow does. It was really nice weather for us mostly - not too too hot and only got cold enough for a light puffy a couple of times. just a couple of days of rain...
Well Angelo, so many things to comment on here. First, the snowy bowl which you described as the most sketchy looked like it may have been a small pond or basin of water covered by snow and ice. It looked treacherous. Glad nobody fell through. I'd be remiss if I didn't comment on your daughter. She's a trooper and a good sport. She didn't complain, just kept on moving along. Admirable. And you, you seem to be a very chill person. I've gotten to know you from the motorcycle videos and these hiking videos. While the hiking was difficult, particularly in that thin mountain air, you were awestruck with the beauty. I think your wife is glad to be doing this hike, but for her perhaps a little more than she expected. My kudos to all of you. I've mentioned in other comments that my wife and I had some great European adventures not so very long ago. We're at that stage in our lives when those days are sadly over for us now. I'm really happy for you and your nice family. I suppose In some way I'm living vicariously through your adventures. With that said, I still have my little Honda like yours and another bike on the way. Life is good.
It's true - Malena never complains about anything much. Jen loved the hike - but she has a different mental game than I do. I have a super high tolerance for pain and suffering and I'm like, "body listen here, - you will do as I say and that's all there is to it." She's more in tune with her body and worries about getting hurt more than I do and that can be a little stressful. We were both just psyched that we could actually do it at all - wasn't sure! Is there a better sentence than "there's another bike on the way?" !
A great learning experience for us all! Or at least, those of us who don't have experience crossing snow-bound passes. I was wondering if you had a map on your phone, showing were the water would be/supposed to be in theory? But in any event, I'm heading over there in July, and will now check my maps for flowing sources of water near the trail up and down every pass, in case they, too, are covered in snow. Because from skiing, I do have a deep fear of falling through snow into water.
We did have Gaia on the phone. It’s a valid fear but on the main trail there are plenty of people so it’s pretty easy to see the right way to go. It’s the variants that are a little more tricky. Have an amazing hike!!!
Been enjoying these TMB videos. My parents have been talking about TMB for a while now and we appreciate your candid videos! Curious what camera equipment you brought along, the videos are beautiful.
@@OurExitStrategy Thank you! I'm planning my own solo pilgrimage hiking this route and then the Camino de Santiago. I want to record my journey(s) for my family. As a 61 year old, I want to get this right. BTW, I love your video's for each day's adventure. Most people put their whole trip into one 25 - 30 minute reel and we miss out on all the little things you show. Cheers!
Beautiful! And I know this ship has sailed way off into the distance, but it's bugged me all 3 episodes so far: I think your daughter's pack is a bit too big for her torso length. 😂 I bet she didn't give a sh!t though, you're all kicking arse.
She definitely didn't give a shit - for sure! I think she could have carried a burlap bag and been fine. We picked that up last minute ... she did get fitted for it at REI - but you know... we may have had it set up wrong. She actually loved that backpack - loved it. I think i liked it bette then ours too. A bit smaller, and lots of handy pockets...
I like the fact that you add humour with your complaints. I am doing this walk this June and Christ I am sure I will be bitching all the way. But if it was easy what would be the point in doing it. So hopefully you will gather up all your toys put them back in the pushchair and look forward to your next video

WOW! What views and cinematography. So doing it on your CT125 next? 😀
Ang has been sending me a couple next-adventure ideas which are, let's say, stretching out the boundaries...
That would be awesome. I'd love to do an adv ride in these parts for sure- amazing places...

NOW.... you are experienced hikers. Can't use that excuse ever again. Great video and adventure !!!
Experienced maybe a little. Skillful - not at all!
Hi Guys, can you please tell me what date you crossed the Col de Fours? Just curious on when it has so much snow. Really enjoying the videos, Thx
That was June 25 I think... thanks for checking out the vids!
You guys are badasses!
replace "bad" with "dumb" and I think you're on to something!
Question: had you had spikes would it have been so bad? We hit trail on 6/25 this year so on 6/26 we will be doing the Fours…… plan to bring spikes.
I think it would have felt much safer with some micro spikes. They aren't heavy and don't take up much room - I definitely wish we'd brought some ...

Thank you for checking the vids out. I had a GoPro 9 and a DJI Mini 3 drone on this trip....
What camera equipment, drone did you use?!
GoPro 9 and dji mini 3
weird question... but what type of camera and other video equipment did you bring with you?
GoPro 9 and DJI Mini 3... and an iPhone...
