This is the project to hit on! This video is awesome! You can add or take away. It's not impossible, but I've been racking my brain on a balancer that will transfer the capacity from one cell to another instead of burning off the energy from a cell with more power. Think of it as a balance transfer at a bank using your phone instead of manually taking money from one account then go to the other bank and deposit your money. I used four TP4056 Chips and wired them in series using a holder with wires, I then used four phone chargers because you need isolation on the input stage then I ran the output wires as if I was charging each cell separate, positive to positive on battery, same with negative. You probably already know this. I've been doing this for 5 years now, when they turned green they're ready, no balancing act, fast charge 4 amp. There's another way, there's an isolation chip, but that allows for .200mAh each.
I have made this for my Bluetooth speaker and it does work well the only thing is when the batteries are fully charged and you turn off the power the leds stay lit for a time. thanks for posting this video.
Excellent idea! Love it! But there is only one issue - The CV voltage stage has to be after the CC stage, otherwise the CC stage induces voltage variations AFTER the CV stage, which is basically defeating CV operation!
As set up the CV will come to play as soon as the CC stops limiting current. Just need to insure the Voltage is exactly where it needs to be. When the Current Draw is within limits the correct voltage will follow.
So at last I understand bms. When a battery reaches 4.2v the charger dumps the power to the diodes while still charging the rest batteries. I understood that after a cell is full, the bms was cutting that cell of the circuit but I could not understand how the supply voltage wasnt then too high for the rest cells since one was out. I think I got it correct now. So all bms use diodes to dump the power when a cell is full?
Yes it stops the voltage on a cell going above the set voltage by bypassing the charge current. this allows the other cells to continue charging but the voltage across it is still 4.2V so the other cells do not see more voltage. One disadvantage of all BMS circuits is that the charge current for the pack cannot be higher than the BMS bypass current.
well explained..im your regular viewer .you made complicated circuits so simple.appreciate great attempt.carryon with more videos from Kerala(INDIA) With love...💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕.......
Great video. Do you have a charger power supply unit for 2, 4, 5 ... Li ion batteries? In your video you gave an example of a 14v 600mA power supply. Thanks.
Hi, Very interesting your balancer for Li-Ion. What do you recomend for an e-bike battery pack 10S 4P? each cell is 2900mA, in other words, I need balance 11600mA for each cell, and are all connected in serie. Thank you a best regard from argentina
the diodes will accept the forward current up to it's "Forward Current" max value. since the circuit is conducting.200 Ma. , its below its forward current value... so if you are looking to dissapate more, then use the right xistors and diodes. You could in theory use 10A02 Diodes... as their Forward Current is safely 6 amps @ 100C... you will also need a xistor to handle the current... and be able to keep it all cool so the diodes do not burn up... Just remember the circuit was designed with only milliamps to dissapate @ the 4.2 volt trigger level.
Can I charge 24 Volt battery ( 3.7 volt x 7 Li on Battery) with total 7 sections . In that case any change do I need to make in LM317 circuit section. I want to keep voltage of each sections 3.7 volt but want to increase ampere by 3.7 volt x 3 battery in parallel in each section..only thing it will take longer time to charge..but that is okay, please let me know if this is possible
Resistors can be 1/4 watt. transistor is a transistor, tl431 is a programmable zener diode. LED is a 20Ma. type up to 3 volt. (approx) .. be specific what you need to know.
All good, how about deep discharge protection on this circuit. When exceed 4.2 on each circuit it stops current flow to charge battery, however when battery discharge how to disconnect discharge when reaches beyond threshold
yes... that is why their an adjustable trimmer... unless you are building the Whole schematic with the 317 regulators, then you are limited to the 317's max current
Well very well I wanted the same circuit diagram but for 2 cell lithium ion respectively The input voltage will be 12 volts Of the car I want a specific scheme if possible With only 2, not 3
Mundo Electrónica hola amigo si amigo toca comentar en ingles pero no ce escribir en ingles pero me gusta mucho los circuitos que publican me encantan saludos amigos
Very bad design... When all three batteries are fully charged, the three transistors and series VD diodes are trying to short out the charger. (So you need a series resistor or a current limited charger) And the 431'a with their associated biasing resistors will be putting a constant drain on the batteries;.. and will eventually drain them below 2.5 volts! ( Down to zero volts if you give them enough time....)
I do understand the fun of DIY, but given the consequences of LiIon failure, and how incredibly cheap LiIon balancing boards are on eBay (which use dedicated chips designed specifically for this purpose), I don't see the sense in building this yourself.
Yes, you can get 10 Boards for €2,10. That's enough for charging 10 batteries at a not so critical ~5V.You can also get Boards with Battery over-discharge protection. 10 for €4.Just search for TP4056 on eBay.
Antonio Tejada, It is very instructive and fun to make our own circuits. Those are the reasons for building the circuit instead of buying a commercial product. Regards.
Just try to find a balance board that balance at 4v, i have searched for it, but never found it, so i am going to build me a nice diy 20s balance board. Thanks for the lay-out of this diy board!
Putting your life in the hands of a Chinesiuim BMS is BAD Ju Ju. It's not a matter of if it will fail. More in line of WHEN it will fail. Hell I've seen some that were DOA or over charging as they came.

leds stay lit for a time, because the batery fully charged is conected to circuit.
Tomorrow, taking out old electronics I have in closet and search for the components :)
Thanks for the video :D

Thank you for pointing out that we can salvage chips from pc power supply!!!
You guys are doing better by the day . very good and useful video
Adding a simple relay between the circuit and the battery will eliminate the drain on loss of mains power.

Your english is getting better
Sirquit
Thank you so much. How many ampere this electronic circuit carry
This thing does not really terminates the charging when the battery is full. It just passes some current at the transistor and diodes
this is what the balancer does.
Thanks for sharing, enjoy your work, can I replace the power supply with a solar panel, 6 v at 1 amp for two batteries?
Hello. I did the assembly, but the 1n4007 diodes get very hot. What would be the cause?
Great Video! one question though, where in the diagram is the turn resistor?
Its the R4, R9 and R14 20kOhm resistors.
Great video. Do you have a charger power supply unit for 2, 4, 5 ... Li ion batteries? In your video you gave an example of a 14v 600mA power supply. Thanks.
This is work battery lithium ion & polymer?
This video was great! Keep up the good work.
Super madem...

Hi, in my case i have a 3s 2p configuration, so how would be the bms circuit?
You're the best. Thanks
I just had one doubt why did you use the Diodes that were placed in after the transistor
the diodes will accept the forward current up to it's "Forward Current" max value. since the circuit is conducting.200 Ma. , its below its forward current value... so if you are looking to dissapate more, then use the right xistors and diodes. can this circuit be used to monitor the voltage of each battery using an arduino?
Excelente,me ajudou muito!
İ make 2s charger version its very well working. Thanks
excellent content >> well done

Plz reply. What to do for over discharge protection.
Would you briefly describe components one by one? How many resistors, resisting values, W size (1W, 1/4W etc) and others?
Resistors can be 1/4 watt. transistor is a transistor, tl431 is a programmable zener diode. LED is a 20Ma. type up to 3 volt. (approx) .. be specific what you need to know.
Why is 14V used to supply rather than 12.6V?
Can I use this circuit to safely balance a 4s Lipo battery?
What about a 3serial and 6 parallel cell circuit? ,. Is this circuit capable of charging a large amount of current?
Excellent thanks for the video
Did this board can work with 4 lead acid 12v battery ?
Think for the video,it is good and awesome.
This battery can be used in bike
can i use 2 battery in parallel for each part of circuit
Can I use 22kΩ resistor in place of 20kΩ resistor as mentioned on the PCB Board?
put 2 x 10k resistores in series connection!!!
Great, thank you! I really like your videos for DIY-electronic.
Thank you, i make 2s from this tutorial.
How to make battery discharger?
why you put diodes as a load ?? why not adding a medium power resistor as a load ??
thanks for sharing..can this be used for life04 batteries?
Yes
Can it be used to charge lipo
Great job.
Can we use it for lipo
can you use potenciometers and not resitors??
how do you model the circuit on a software?
What is this charger with charging protection &Autocutoff
can i balanse 2x12V battery?
All good, how about deep discharge protection on this circuit. When exceed 4.2 on each circuit it stops current flow to charge battery, however when battery discharge how to disconnect discharge when reaches beyond threshold
can we use the lm324 to make a bms charger?
Good evening, can you implement the circuit for my work, we need a lithium-ion battery charging circuit, and I thank you
Neither the circuit can be downloaded nor the PCB can be ordered.
Really nice! :)
How to change bd140 and 4007 to get current up to 20A? I wish to make 5cell parallel on 3 group (3S 5P)
why do you need to discharge 20Amp? Passively dissapating that much current needs another solution... another circuit.
Çok teşekkürler.
hi i reverse the wire now 1 channel is not working, what do i replace? thank
А как быть контролем рзряда? Как быть если надо 130 штук?
can i replace the four series diode with a resistor
Im going to try it.... but I will make a 4S version....
very useful. thank u
Lead Acid BMS how to make? Can modify this circuit?
don't need one
Si cool
how many voltage give to charge battery through this circuit...
Can it be adjusted for LiFePO4 3.2v
yes... that is why their an adjustable trimmer... unless you are building the Whole schematic with the 317 regulators, then you are limited to the 317's max current
can i use 2 part for 2cell with 9v charger of router
More amper?
I need make 12v 100a
Which is the diode used there???
1N4007
Well very well
I wanted the same circuit diagram but for 2 cell lithium ion respectively
The input voltage will be 12 volts
Of the car
I want a specific scheme if possible
With only 2, not 3
This circuit is modular. You can use two sections for two batteries, or interconnect 5 identical sections for 5 batteries.
¿De casualidad saben cual es el limite de corriente de salida?
can i extend it to 6s bms?
Upvote for cute accent.
Please make 4s bms
Execellent
thank for lay6 circuit
nice
Think for the video
excelente

Who is Sir Quit?
can this scheematic us for 4 s li-ion battery
you need to add another circuit... make another pcb, and do not populate the whole board
Awsome
Make 24v for lead acid
Why dont you show ths drawing. Usually. You show
PCB diagram please .
Those links don't do anything :(
so... then what do you need?
لا يوجد زنر في اللوحه
there are no zener in the board
yes their is... lookup tl431...
Can I use DCDC converter??
Anyone plz reply
a dc-dc converter with Amp limiting and a max voltage cut-off is recommended
Diagram plz
Very bad design...

Not an exact science using a diode as a voltage dropper. Has to be a better way surely?

If you charge your batteries at 4v instead of 4.2v, this could be a good solution to keep your pack balanced. 4v charging will prolong battery life.
