  • As 20mph limits are to be imposed on 1,700 streets in the Wirral, Colin Brown talks to MAG member Elaine Velho about opposition to the scheme and why as a recognised stakeholder, MAG were not consulted.
On the 9th of October Wirral MAG organised a demo starting in New Brighton and finishing at Birkenhead Town Hall to coincide with the Wirral Council meeting.
Approximately 40 members of the Motorcycle Action group attended challenged the council on the roll out of the 20mph limits and why it was going ahead with 67% of respondents being against the new limits.

Great discussion. Sitting at my local bike cafe today the subject of 20 mph limits came up.
It's amazing just how many are still ignorant of the hidden agenda behind these and the traffic blocking schemes introduced during lockdown.

Bit late for me. South Cambs just went ahead after a well hidden consultation and foisted a city wide 20mph limit for the whole city of Ely, Cambs. I would love to get support for a biker protest to basically block up the city roads for a day.

Surely the answer is in investment in public transport rather than sniping and snapping at the private use of motor vehicles, isn’t it?

Better to put the money into very strictly enforcing the existing 30pmh limit.

That would be admirable if it were remotely possible. Here in the City of Ely we had 30mph limits that very few took notice of. South Cambridgeshire County Council went ahead after a quiet “consultation” and enforced a 20 mph City wide limit. Police didn’t have the resources to police the 30mph limit so I have little hope in the new limit being enforced. It’s a joke and a waste of public funds.

What, you guys you don't love watching bicycles ride past you as you crawl along at 22mph?
