    The 2021 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals is a 10-player round-robin taking place from September 25 to October 4 on chess24, with World Champion Magnus Carlsen, World Cup winner Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Dutch no. 1 Anish Giri playing from a venue in Oslo. The players start with bonus points based on their performance over the $1.6 million tour so far and then play a match each day for a maximum of 3 points. The top scorer after 9 rounds wins $100,000 and is crowned the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour champion.
    Each match features four rapid games with a time control of 15 minutes for all moves plus a 10-second increment added each move. The winner gets 3 points and the loser 0. If tied 2:2, then a blitz playoff is played, with two games where the players have 5 minutes and a 3-second increment. If still tied they play a single Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. The winner after a playoff gets 2 points, the loser 1. 10:03 even a super GM like Hikaru knows En Passant is always forced even if you know you’ll get mated in the next move. A chess player of culture I see

    there was a game in 2016 that lasted over 120 moves.... the endgame was drawn, but naka pressed for the win and blundered by giving magnus the passed h-pawn.

    5:40 I understand why hikaru moved the queen, but what does moving the rook do for him? Isnt the queen trapped anyways?

    At the tricky position at 13:40, instead of white (MC) moving rook to b8, why not pawn to a5?

    2:35
    Obviously Hikaru only lost because he broke Ben Finegold’s rule of “never play F6” lol
    In all seriousness though, did Nakamura only lose because he played the single inaccuracy at 12:56 where he wasted a tempo by putting the rook on c7?

    Poor Hikaru, it must be disheartening in a way to go up against the best in world and have his opponent confidently proclaim "one pawn is enough."

    • @sungod9797
      @sungod9797 2 года назад +2

      And then proceed to give up that pawn because his king activity is enough even with completely equal material in a king and rook endgame lol
