The 2021 Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Finals is a 10-player round-robin taking place from September 25 to October 4 on chess24, with World Champion Magnus Carlsen, World Cup winner Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Dutch no. 1 Anish Giri playing from a venue in Oslo. The players start with bonus points based on their performance over the $1.6 million tour so far and then play a match each day for a maximum of 3 points. The top scorer after 9 rounds wins $100,000 and is crowned the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour champion.
Each match features four rapid games with a time control of 15 minutes for all moves plus a 10-second increment added each move. The winner gets 3 points and the loser 0. If tied 2:2, then a blitz playoff is played, with two games where the players have 5 minutes and a 3-second increment. If still tied they play a single Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black’s 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. The winner after a playoff gets 2 points, the loser 1. "Now Hikaru starts horsing around" made me chuckle. Thanks
Hikaru would say “now Hikaru starts juicing around.”
Bojack reference always good reference
Me too that was a good pun
"Almost never disappoints" one sees Agad doesn't recover from that Double Bongcloud yet
Hahahah! I too had the same thought first
He had such a disgusted expression that Magnus would execute the bongcloud in a tournament where a lot of people came to see the highest level of chess
@@thisrighthereofficer4818 you can see highest level of chess every day in tournament somewhere, and a lot of matches go into lines that force draws anyway so who cares, enjoy the oddity
Ugh, that was a disappointing reaction. No sense of humor.
@@thisrighthereofficer4818 He was upset that they repeated moves and drew quickly. If the double bongcloud game was played out, he wouldn't have been so upset
Saying “I’d like to thank myself for making great videos” will never get old
I must have seen a thousand Agad videos and never noticed him saying this before. He's so consistent with his stoic humour, it's fantastic
it's a username of a contributor, check the top right corner
@@Tarrlych I'm surprised by how many people missed it lol
@@Tarrlych Thanks, I missed it and was shocked when he said it.
When you are the best you get to say things like that
“If you do this it’s an easy win because 5 captures later you will be double attacked”
easy hahaha
agad is Candidate Master, so I would say its depends on individual skill level.

He's either a CM OR FM

Magnus' confidence going into the endgame is just staggering!
It seems to me that Magnus often tries to trade off pieces to get into the end game.

ELO points are like positions in car racing, right? The higher you are the lower the number.
Which means my ELO 150 outqualifies all of you here. Keep training or you'll never catch me!!
@@jx14aby When you're the best endgame player in the world and you can force the endgame, there's no reason not to.
I did not expect an endgame battle between a Rook, pawn, and King to be so intense!
Magnus endgame is scary, but his middle game is even scarier to me. Endgames are always more direct, to me the way he sets up his midgame to give himself an advantage in the endgame is just incomprehensibly high level.
Ah yes and also his opening is just perfect, don't forget the way he Lift piece and move it to another square is just Unbeatable, and dont forget the way he breath God alike.

Agadmator : Perfect endgame technique doesn't exist.
Also Agadmator: *BUT OKAY*
Perfect endgame technique doesn't exist ... but perfect engame players apparently do.
that made lol
He is so good in the endgame. Reminds of his move back witg the King in the Bishop's endgame vs Alireza.... Such a beautiful piece of art!
With endgame play like this, he is basically the Capablanca of our times.
No, he is the Magnus Carlsen of present time
Capablanca was the Magnus of his time
This wasn’t a chess game.. this was a piece of art.
This was a chess game, d u m b a s s
Fact that hikaru wasted 1 extra move on rook rotation and he was 1 move away from draw in the ending was crazy
he probably claims it was a mouse slip, knowing hikaru
Yeah it might’ve been the only reason he lost, which is crazy.
"Hikaru also starts HORSING around"......hahahahahahaah you are the best
Congratulations Agadmator, you're an excellent giver of RUclips video titles
7:54 "And finally bishop captures on f4", "g captures on f4"...which is actually f6 in both :)
8:35 Another f4 which is actually d6 hahaha

Excellent chess game, with excellent commentary = lots of learning. Thank you, Agadmator!
Magnus : my name is Giovanni Giorgio
Hikaru. : So?
Magnus : but everybody calls me Gorgio....
18:48 I always feel my endgame has improved enormously after watching these Magnus videos. Since it is well known on Agad's channel that Capablanca didn't bother much with opening theory, it seems all I have to do is find a way of avoiding the middle game.
Truly an amazing game, and this one goes the fullest distance a game can whilst still providing a winner - after considerable thought by the victor.
"I literally don't care about the endgame. I either win or resign before it gets to me." (Hikaru probably)
6:16 need more of these from you Tony
When you're the world champ, you can do things the "hard" way without worry, even against a player like Nakamura
It's not the "hard" way if it's the way you're sure to win.
It came down to one tempo, great game as always between these two.
Sometimes these captions are so good i click “like” even before watching the good stuff
Another masterpiece from Magnus
"I would like to thank David Kimura, myself for making great videos..." you are epic, Antonio
Thats not antonio its donor who wanted agad to say that so he gave him that name. I know u know but you know i wanted you to know so i made u know 😂
Magnus sparked in me the love for endgames
Horsing around!!
😂😂😂
Plus: Magnus is the GOAT.
We are living a very special Einstein-like era..
First ever chess game I watched I think was Magnus versus Vishy TaTa steel like 2018?? Where he won a drawn knight endgame and it was the day I fell in love with chess
Me with white pieces: makes first move
Agadmator: "and it is now at move one that we have a completely new game"
That quote is something else
„And in the endgame the gods have placed Carlsen“👌🏻
Magnus is hands down my favorite of all time in chess.

Wow, great game between two powerhouses!
End games with Magnus in them always make the other guy look like a rube. At least Nakamura doesn't make any trivial mistakes like Alireza did.
@timisgod clash Hikaru is one of the top rated players in the world.
@timisgod clash Nakamura is currently ranked #5 in the Meltwater tournament.
The reason why Carlsen offered the Queen trade was the fact that after that, his Knight would jump to d6 and become the octopus knight; and as someone said that a knight on sixth rank is more powerful than a rook, then he decided to force Nakamura to trade that way.
Are other players other than Magnus playing in this tournament as well?
What a monster in the endgame. Magnus is amazing.
This game is a real gem 💎❤️. Thankyou agadmator
Game 3 Endgame by magnus is super good !
agad which broadcasters do you watch the tournaments through?
Wow… hikaru is one move short… thats amazing

good rule of thumb, if whoever is attacking on the wherever then you should counterattack on the elsewhere
The amount of donations from Mr. Myself for creating great videos is becoming suspicious.....
rumors say it's agad donating to himself
It's not multiple people. It's the same guy who donated once but it hasn't cycled through his name yet with new people so it's still there.
Hi Antonio.
It would be great if you could remind us what the time format of the game is at the start of the video or in the description. Can I make a polite request?
Thanks for the great videos.

Enjoying the recent above board quote selections.
10:03 even a super GM like Hikaru knows En Passant is always forced even if you know you’ll get mated in the next move. A chess player of culture I see
there was a game in 2016 that lasted over 120 moves.... the endgame was drawn, but naka pressed for the win and blundered by giving magnus the passed h-pawn.
Tht was a grind down
Magnus wins because black is one move short: Calculated
I win because opponent is one move short: Pure luck :))
Nakamura could have tied the game
Magnus is as confident in his endgame as you are in making great videos
Art of writing Captions. 🔥💯
5:40 I understand why hikaru moved the queen, but what does moving the rook do for him? Isnt the queen trapped anyways?
Oh no, it does!
10:42 white plays Kf5, but what about Ke4 threating to fork all blacks pieces. Black will Re7 check then white King f5. any thoughts?

Genius endgame by Magnus
2:35
Obviously Hikaru only lost because he broke Ben Finegold’s rule of “never play F6” lol
In all seriousness though, did Nakamura only lose because he played the single inaccuracy at 12:56 where he wasted a tempo by putting the rook on c7?
not really, it was lost before that =]]] that just delayed the win for another a move
Look at the dog when he said "Hello Everyone".
Nice end game
Man, perfect
Magnus Carlsen's end game ability is pure poetry.
#suggestion Magnus vs Hikaru game 3, another display of beautiful endgame technique !
At 12:08 why didn't Hikaru capture with the rook? Kindly help me understand 🙂.
Poor Hikaru, it must be disheartening in a way to go up against the best in world and have his opponent confidently proclaim "one pawn is enough."
And then proceed to give up that pawn because his king activity is enough even with completely equal material in a king and rook endgame lol
Magnus endagme is insane.
Hikaru is too grown to be getting babied like this

Magnus is a cheat code.
Funny how Nakamura hasn't developed as a chess strategist since he broke out years and years ago. Still plays normal chess like it's blitz, just doesn't work against Magnus but the again what does?
His contract to TSM is the reason. He needs to stream which eats his time for prep
