Do I need to rinse with cool water when finished dying before using fixative? It doesn’t say? Do I just squeeze out? When you put it into the fresh water with fixative the water stays so clear straight off. Surely if the excess hasn’t been rinsed out it would bleed immediately? This is the only thing missing from this video and the written instructions.
As long as you use the right dye for the type of material you are dyeing, as well as hot water, it should last for just about as long as anything commercially dyed. If the coat has cotton in it, you can also use our ColorStay Dye Fixative to lock in the color even longer!
What should I do if I want to restore a faded black hat, but the material is 50% synthetic? The Rit Dyemore product is not available in Black color, only graphite which is mostly a dark gray. Am I just out of luck?
I have a black sleeveless dress thats 5% spandex, 71% cotton, 24% nylon. It says dry clean only, but i think thats just because its banana republic brand. @@matheusfaria7230the paper instructions in the kit suggests using as hot of water as the fabric will allow. You could maybe adjust the soak times to account for the cooler water.
Logos are typically made of synthetic materials and so there is a chance the logo doesn't get dyed as this dye does not work on synthetics. You could try covering the logo with electrical tape. However, there always is a chance it does get a dyed a little.

It's not cool that y'all don't reply to comments anywhere. I am trying to dye 100% cotton sheets from medium gray to jet black. I obviously don't have a pot big enough for sheets so I have to use the machine machine method. I tried using 1 bottle of the "black all purpose dye" and it came out dark gray with hints of purple and very splotchy/uneven. My stupid washer automatically drains itself so it drained half of the dye bath before I was unable to unplug it to get it to stop draining. Then I did a normal wash cycle (just water), a cycle with the fixative, and finally a cycle with detergent. Now I am trying it again. I unplugged the washer first so it wouldn't drain. I am using 2 bottles of "jet black" from the back to black kit AND 1 bottle of yellow to counteract the purple. I am doubling or tripling the bath time to at least an hour - manually stirring with a broom pole every 10 minutes. Unfortunately, once I plug the machine back in, it will drain itself so I am going to have to go straight from dyeing to using the fixative. I am hoping that locks in more of the black. Since Rit doesn't respond and doesn't provide instructions for using a washing machine AND better clarity on using the fixative, I will report back in a few hours when I finish. I will also post on TikTok later today so other users can learn from my mistakes!

How much fabric in kg/lbs does one pack dye?
1 pound per 3 gal water and one pack of dye. Double the recipe for more clothes
will this work with cold water?
It won’t be very dark, will look more of a gray, not black. Hot water has best results.
We do not suggest using the dye with cold water. Hot water is very important with our dyes as it opens up the fibers in the fabric to accept the dye.
