Solar Bitcoin Mining (3 Month Profit Report)

  • This is the summary of a three month test of measuring solar surplus and mining Bitcoin with it.
Knowing how to get paid more for your solar surplus production can help more people upgrade and expand their energy producing systems. Unfortunately it seems like utility companies are anti residential solar and I had never understood that until having solar myself.
Thankfully I know about Bitcoin and have mined Bitcoin for a little bit and am super excited to have solar now and be my own energy producer.
My name is Brian and I'm passionate about watching people who choose to go solar go big and have a good experience with it.
It is 100% possible to cover your entire household electricity bill and your electric car miles and have excess production make you money. Stop listening to lame sales reps and people who tell you that home batteries and solar panels have a bad ROI.
Decide for yourself that you want energy independence and you want your home to be a self sustaining money maker and you can make that happen.
Thumbs up on the video and subscribing to the channel is super appreciated. Comment anything you're thinking and I'll check it out.
We have 9.4 kw of solar panels, 2 Tesla Powerwalls, 2 Antminer s9 Bitcoin Asic miners, a Tesla Model Y, a smart PDU from SynAccess, and the Tesla Wall Connector for charging our electric vehicle. I also enjoy talking about suburban homesteading, rainwater harvesting, backyard ducks, and Bitcoin in general.

My guy! this was fire. So excited to help people deck out their roofs with solar and start playing with providing at home mining as a service. So much opportunity here. As a roofing and solar professional this video was so helpful for me as I wade into the home and smaller scale mining space in conjunction with solar panels.

Wow I've been inspired to do this too. So, did you run the miner to 500kwh in one session. How long did it take for miner to consume that much energy?

Excellent video. Really interested in what you are a doing. Mining with your excess solar is SO much more profitable ( and streamlined ) than selling back to the grid. Why would you sell to the Grid when you can mine BTC instead. It's a no-brainer. Subbed.

Thank you for that. Very well done. I have a 10.22 KWH ground mount, a bi-directional meter on the main and the Enphase monitoring system for the array.
I need to learn more about the Smart PDU and look forward mining, especially during the winter as all of our heat is via elec and I'll run 3KWH in my RV at times to say warm. Alternative is propane which is $$$.
    Thanks again, Jay

Hey Brian, Awesome video. Do you live in a location where you need to run your house AC unit in the summer? I have found that I need to bank my solar production Feb through the middle part of June to offset the AC unit running During late June through Sept. I can bank some KwH in October and November but am even for Dec and Jan. My goal is always not to pay PG&E the .20/.30 cent per KwH. Having a 10kw system, I still would end up with a 1200KW surplus but burn most of the surplus by heating with electricity instead of using natural gas. This is Jeff from Lengthwise by the way. Cheers!

@@brainharrington I agree. Adding an additional 4 to 6 panels to an array that is being installed is the ticket. Plus we both know that there is a way to heat the house in the winter months with miners. Keep up the good work brother. Hope to see you again soon.

@@leighzimmatore8181 Yes sir. Plus you would only want to run the miners during off peak hours. There is still peak and off peak pricing for home solar.

Did you take into account the cost of the miner? Seems like it would take a while for the miner to pay for itself or am I missing something? Interesting stuff nonetheless!

What would the difference be with a solar battery around 100 Amps

    • @brainharrington
      @brainharrington  7 месяцев назад +1

I'm not sure, the amps part of the question is throwing me off, I've got 2 Tesla power walls that are about 13 kwh each that are now a part of my system and its all the same flow of fill up the batteries for the day then mine bitcoin w/ surplus production instead of sending it to the grid

Best way to think about it is compare the surplus compensation rate of Bitcoin mining to the net surplus compensation rate offered by your utility company. This will give you the most accurate way to think about the ROI of adding bitcoin mining to your solar set up.
