- Cannabis cultivators expect the plant’s roots to do an essential job, and yet most of us barely know how to treat them nicely. On this week’s episode of Shaping Fire, host Shango Los welcomes back plant biologist Sarah Lane to discuss root structure in living soil, coco/peat and hydro systems, how roots function, what their various colors may say about their health, how and when to trim them, and best practices for creating a bountiful root system that will support massive growth and yields, including container choice, pH, watering, fertilizers and compost teas.

Woot! It helps when the guests are this top tier!
As a fruit tree grower I know how much good roots mean. I like a standard or xl rootstock for my fruit trees. Healthy roots make healthy fruits. In my environment I find shallow wide roots work the best. Some cannabis likes fungal dominated soil over bacterial dominated soils. I find the more pungent cheese and stinky skunk plants do better with bacterial dominated soil. Not so much with sweet skunk.
Hey Shango, check out a lady by the name of Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott. I believe you will be very interested in what she has to say.
Thanks! I am very familiar with her! She is here in Washington where I live. Great suggestion!
Such a great guest ✌🏼💚✌🏼💚🌬💨💨😶🌫️🙏🏻

first
what is the definition of living soil and what has to be in it and how old ie...mycropbs. bacteria. earthworms... 1wk,1mo,1yr?
Love you shows
There are so many definitions but I like the simplicity of Dr Elaine Ingham's. She says that living soil is made up of microbes, bacterium, and other microorganisms that are fully expressing interactions of the Soil Food Web.
There is so much wiggle room in that definition though still. I think it is still evolving as a phrase, and it isn't a scientific phrase either. So, it may never be particularly exact.
@@ShangoLos thank you for getting back to me
