I love that they don’t treat the officer like a bumbling idiot, they show that he is good in his own right, but Columbo is beyond meticulous which is why he has cause to be suspicious in the first place.
Me too. All the Mexican principals are treated with respect, including all the ranch staff. Pretty progressive for the time when the Frito Bandito was regularly on TV. Columbo is, well, Columbo, and also an outsider who isn't awed by Montoya's reputation and station, which allows him to entertain the idea of Montoya as the killer from the outset. He's also run into arrogant, important killers many times and has a nose for them, just like his dog.
I always love the way the killers always try and be extra friendly and over co-operative to start with then get more and more irritated the more Columbo investigates....
This was a great episode. The Mexican police commander wants Columbo to catch the bullfighter if he is guilty, because he is afraid of losing his job if he launches an investigation into him that leads nowhere.
beautiful showing a good father and family in the police chief 😊, I enjoy the writing and regard for culture and family!
The difference between boxers fighting each other and the bull getting slaughtered by a bull fighter is that both the boxers had a choice in the matter.
The bull must have really torn up Hector really really bad....Columbo takes less than a 2 second glance at the body and is immediately disturbed by what he sees.
Your not allowed to criticise Columbo, and just more thing........
.
Which also plays into Montoya's confidence that no would look beyond the bull as the killer.
Hmm...🤔 So the bull made hamburger out of him, eh? Now THAT's irony.🥩👀
I love that we get to see the inner workings of Columbo's thought processes via the dinner with the local lawman.
One of the things I really liked about this episode is the general respect it shows towards Mexican culture. Yeah, there's the car accident and corruption played for laughs, but otherwise it feels authentic. Having the rich daughter off at an American college is a great touch
Good episode.
Mexican culture was built on abuse of the indigenous people by Hispanic colonists.
Ricardo Montalbán gave a perfect performance in this episode
I miss him. He was a fantastic person and actor. RIP Khan.
One of many ... RIP :(
Agree...don't know why this doesn't rank higher among episode favorites. The ending is a real Greek tragedy.
for a moment, I thought it was a Columbo/Fantasy Island crossover...
Most of the villains did. They only got the best and terrific writing. Esp in the earlier ones.
I like how Montoya says "with permission" when he's leaving, which is translated to "con permiso" in spanish. Just something a non-native english speaker would say if they didn't know all the proper translations of spanish phrases. Nice little detail
Agree. Or to be more polite would say “con su permiso”, meaning “with your permission”
He (Ricardo Montalban) also uses that particular phrasing in "Space Seed".
I like how he doesn't wait to hear an answer. He's being polite while at the same time showing how they don't have the authority to stop him.
I have been binge watching these Colombo videos the past week.
I had forgotten how good he was. I used to watch these as a kid in the early 80's with my grandmother. She loved Colombo.
There's no better detective than Lieutenant Columbo!!!
You're right friend
Don't forget Ms. Marple.
How about Hercule poirot, miss Marple, Sherlock Holmes?
Dr. House
I liked the way Columbo worked with local sheriff. I would like to have seen more of that back and forth between him and someone else in more episodes
Suddenly wonder if In the Heat of the Night was the seed idea of the writers'.🤔
I love how Columbo implies that the Pope is not above suspicion when it comes to possible homicide cases. No one is above suspicion regardless of who they are when it comes to murder.
I love how animals look away from Lt. Columbo as he looks at them; the bull, and another ex, Columbo gives ''Dog'' some water and he looks away from Columbo and the water bowl, (It"s All in the Game). funny stuff to notice in the different episodes. It takes years of watching to pick them up.
@4:27 One of the first mistakes the murderers make is when they find Columbo "amusing".
Montoya says amusing through gritted teeth. He's visibly annoyed. He wants the officer to get rid of him, but he also doesn't want to demand it and give himself away.
6:10 Very rare you have Columbo sit a potential witness down, pick their brains, and then flat out explain his thoughts on the case to the witness. There is no façade in the bar scene. Just a smart, calculating detective probing for information.
It's been a while but I'm pretty sure that isn't a witness-- it's the Mexican detective assigned to the case. He's consorting with a colleague, right?
@@williammcguire130 Yeah, he's not a witness, he's the local detective who asked Columbo's help.
Really...
40 plus years old and still better than the trash on today's TV.
Yes, it is incredible, I do not understand why the industry are not able to make something like this
@@doncarlodivargas5497 it's easy
You most likely have an easy life.
They don't make these good any more as they don't appeal to a broader audience, more audience more fans means more money, maybe even merchandise, tak the recent super hero movies, there's tons of them right? They sell tickets, blu rays, toys, merch, it's something for adults and kids so they don't limit themselves to only adults or only kids, that would mean lower ticket sales.
It's all about money and all they do today is quick mindless fun movies for as many people as possible so that they have where to bring in more money.
@@doncarlodivargas5497 People forget that the original format in which Columbo aired allowed its production team to only make one broadcast episode a month, rather than the usual one a week.
And when the show became an independent entity Falk insisted, in the face of network objections, that this slow production pace, that allowed for higher quality, be maintained.
@@doncarlodivargas5497 They aren't actors like Peter Falk anymore.
@@michaeljames4904 - yes, sure, but, why not do that today?
And what about the plot, do they write the script in one week also?
I've devised the perfect murder!
"Just one more thing!"
*SHI-*
Does not take Montalban long to start getting irritated by Columbo's questions. Funny!
If I was a killer and Colombo turned up, I would be preparing for prison.
I'd confess a soon as I see that raincoat.
The Columbo series sure had a Star Trek connection with guest stars like William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and Ricardo Montalban.
In one of Shatner's episodes, you can see a portrait of him as Captain Kirk in the background of a shot he and Falk are in.
Chekov shows up as a cop in one episode too.
And of course Kate Mulgrew plays his wife
@@torridd yeahhhh but the less said about that the better hahaha
It's a shame he never had the chance to work with Patrick Stewart and I would LOVE to watch him arrest John de Lancie...
Bold direction choice to have the two characters just sit at a table and talk.
@7:50
“You heard Montoya’s answer…”
“But I didn’t believe it” 😏🌀
Yep Columbo was suspicious of Montoya since arriving at the crime scene. Pride comes before the fall l.
Felix Unger
Me and my buddy laughed so hard at the ending of this episode. He's just like, "Well, they know I'm afraid of bulls, I might as well turn myself in."
We still like to joke about being afraid of bulls.
That bull would make some nice Corinthian leather for the Chrysler Cordoba.
One of my favorite episodes of columbo
Great writing and great acting.
"I find him amusing." That will change in five seconds.
Thank you so much for posting.
Paul Ronco: You're quite welcome :)
Thank you, Peter♡ & Ricardo♡ for giving us such breathtaking performances, which made this episode unique. Thank you, you gigantic actors.
And the Brown Nose Award goes too.............
Sure!
Pedro Armendáriz y Ricardo Montalbán!
Colombo is the best detective of all times.....
Absolutely love this episode!!! One of my favorites!
This is I believe one of the top three episodes! My favorite ❤️
Jorge Rivera is in this episode 😍
There was to much bull from the start and no one wanted to step on it.
I’ve always loved how Columbo is murder police, because his mind is so exemplary to the task, but he’s famously squeamish.
He is not squeamish. Arent you confusing him with Monk?
Mr. Roarke killed Tattoo and planned to turn the Bull into seat covers made of Rich Corinthian Leather 😅🤣😆

6:22-6:25 Best quote of this Episode!
Columbo, "Would Hector have wanted to bring it to an end in some sort of a Ma-Kiz-Mo way?" Sanchez, "You mean Ma-Chizz-Mo, No No No"........ ha ha... funniest stuff ever. Suppose for a moment that Village People sang the song "YMCA" like Columbo would have liked, "Mah-Ko, Mah-Ko, man, I want to be a Mah-Ko man"
Ain't he the greatest and the cutest? My Columbo Man.
Well, Columbo knew his mind and wouldn't take any bull from anybody! 😉
Ouch.
Columbo and the case of the disappearing cigar
Poor A Martinez..lol
Pedro Armendáriz was a great actor and played the Commandte naturally.
I would have loved to have Peter Falk as this character in the O.J. trial, giving reasons as to why O.J. was guilty.
"But sir, that glove does in fact fit. It fits very well, actually."
@@berserkasaurusrex4233 There is a theory that OJ consumed something with a lot of salt to make his hands swell so the gloves don't fit.
You know it's hot in Mexico yet Columbo has to wear the rain coat.
GROWING UP IN THE 70'S MY MOTHER LOVED WATCHING COLOMBO BUT SINCE WE HAD ONLY ONE TV, US KIDS HAD TO WATCH IT. TO BE HONEST, I HATED THE SHOW; LOL. AS I GOT OLDER, I STARTED TO APPRECIATE THE SHOW. IN FACT, IT HAS BECOME MY FAVORITE DETECTIVE/CRIME SERIES. COLOMBO IS THE DON DADDA, AS WE SAY IN BROOKLYN.
You don't have to yell.
The closed caption is pretty good. Instead of "big fella" it says "big felony".
If anyone has seen the full episode of this there was a glaring script error. Columbo asks a ranch hand to show him where the murder took place before Columbo has even established there was a murder. The ranch hand does not even blink twice at the word 'murder' and directs Columbo to the spot. How that was not caught in post-production is puzzling.
"Murder?"
"You said murder."
"I said murder? You said murder..."
If it wasn't already established murder Columbo wouldn't be there in the first place.
Peter Falk did all this with one glass eye.
In one episode he asks someone to help him search because "Three eyes are better than one!"
Actually “Mano y Mano” means hand to hand not man to man.
Great episode.
3 Great Mexican Actors. Ricardo Montalban. Pedro Armendariz Jr. The other known as El Indio Fernandez.
@7:14-7:15 a man of many talents, I didn't know Columbo was a ventriloquist too! 🤣😅🤣 Post Production Sound engineer is so fired!
Huh? Columbo isn't the one saying "Who would do something like that?" It's the other actor's line in the dialogue.
@@noeldown1952 Nah. There is no Mexican accent. Or it could be the Commandante is the Ventriloquist 😅😆. It wouldn't be the first time the post production sound engineer screwed up in this series.
The next line "Latoya, maybe?" is spoken by Columbo. Why would he be answering his own question? 🤦♂️
@@TallSilentGuy True but if you listen closely , when Columbo was first speaking, no music, then it cuts, and then you hear music with trumpets. Clearly, two different sound takes.
@@ricogoldstar there is music throughout. I don't hear a cut.
@6:15 like to hear more about that murder on the cruise ship... little reference to episode Troubled Waters there?
Awkward but Mantalban seems fitting in these rolls yet gutsy. Does in his wife in "Murder She Wrote' too professional pianist.
Khan - Ricardo Montalbán
that's the thing the bull fighter fears the most.. .the Walmart commercial .. Jeez..RUclips has really destroyed the video viewing experience.
Love it...Ricardo Montaban.
The gate needs additional protection. That’s one berserk bull.
6:15 Is that a randomly thrown in Wilhelm Scream in the background?
Plenty of Mexican's are boxers, humt deer with guns, and use live fish as bait. So, Montoya's case is moot.
If you think killing a bull is the same as catching a fish you are crazy!!
😂😂😂👍🏾✌🏾
When I hear the word « suave », I think of Ricardo Montalban. When I see Ricardo Montalban, I think of « fine corinthian leather ».
I don't think I EVER saw this episode on broadcast TV.
Depends on what era you are taking about. I have seen it re-run many times on broadcast TV in both the the UK and Ireland between the 1980's and the early years of this century. I remember recording this very episode to my video recorder from the television around 1982.
4:35 "Have you seen this? Some kind of a skid mark! With a hole at the end!" -- Columbo, AFTER DARK
😂
Funny thing, in German, instead of calling cops pigs, we call them bulls. Always struck me as odd. But that's probably just me. You read that in his voice didn't ya?
What a load of Bull
I like to see the clips that have an ending is there a way to know which ones are they?
Do the ads have to be so loud?
What a nice bull lovely

I guess these shows or shorts or movies, must have started being shown on peacock channel after the series ended🤔🙄??!!!!!!
He'd never get a conviction based on that evidence
Oh hello there person who doesn't know what fiction is.
Montoya wouldn't fight it now that the bull was out of the bag. He couldn't bear the humiliation of a trial. Mark it.
Ricardo was the real khan
In this episode, columbo is a busybody.
He's that way in every episode lol
Just love it

I really like the mexican police chief. Great performance

I never fully understood the motive for this murder. Just because Ricardo Montabalan did not want anyone to know he froze ? N Who would kill someone over that ?!?!?
The subtitles interpret "machismo" as "my cheeseburger" lol
KHAN!!

Khan!!
A great tv detective, but the continuity should be fired.
This is why the constitution is written that we have the right to bull horns and the right to bear arms. It’s a stock market reference often misinterpreted.

Too bad Tattoo isn't there to defend him😂😂😂
Great episoe columbo on vacation in mexico no wife again
Wearing a trench coat in Mexico?!

Columbus in the 50’s was never more than 10 minutes partly because of programming. There’s hardware and software. The 50’s TVs were mostly hardware and too small so they couldn’t hold longer shows inside them.
Nowadays the software programming and larger memory with teamwork allows you to watch all sizes due to the chips and LEDs and Motorola involvement.
The circuitry and transistors with programming makes the difference to make an overall racism free product.
The primary transistor is the BJT and FET is the modern version of transistor.
The types of BJT are NPN and PNP transistors. Dynamism vs placidity.
The FET is a unipolar device, which means that it is made using either p-type or n-type material as main substrate. It’s a racist free product. The jury convicted on all 3 counts. That should tell you something.
What is your motivation?
Makes perfect sense to me 🙄
