If you wanted quality fan fiction, you should’ve gone to AO3. Most adult/mature fans post their work there, and you can find some actual masterpieces or at least well written stories. Since you were exploring bronies (who are *adult* men if I understood correctly), I think AO3 would’ve been more appropriate here. Still a great video though! P.S. I’m ngl I was already paying attention because of the look into the brony culture, but I was not even blinking at all when we got to the trump f*cking loli fanfic, truly a masterpiece of a audiobook narration.
1. Lauren Faust didn't create the Gen 4 iteration of MLP for little girls. She meant it to appeal to people from all age groups primarily because the attitude that cartoons like it are 'for little girls' drives a lot of the misogyny in the animation field. Basically studios didn't (and many still don't) take women animators & creators seriously. Plus she wanted to raise the bar in terms of quality as aside from Disney and maybe Dreamworks nobody was making quality children's content. Since shows like MLP:FIM, Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, and numerous others that came out around the same time and focused more on just telling good stories instead of talking down to their audience a lot more amazing animated series have come out. The focus isn't as much on making cute shows with meaningless content anymore. 2. The majority of guys I know who are into MLP:FIM are pretty intelligent and a lot more aware of social issues than you give them credit for. Are there cringe people in the fandom? Sure but that's true with every fandom. Kind of unfair to make such a negative broad sweeping statement. 3. While most of the characters in the show are female there are plenty of popular male characters in the series. Weird Al even voices a pony named Cheese Sandwich. 4. OK the further I get into this the more I'm understanding no real effort to be all that serious was made here lol 5. Honestly it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Really, though-while the show isn't meant to be super-deep it definitely has plenty of meaningful episodes. It was meant to hearken back to the golden age of Disney animation that took place in the late 80's on through to the late 90's. There are stories about coping with guilt, the five stages of grief, and forgiveness that are done in ways that are both meaningful and fun. I've met a lot of amazing people in the brony fandom. Much like with the furry fandom the majority of bronies just want to be able to be themselves and form meaningful friendships along the way. They do a ton for good causes and while the fandom isn't perfect I'm proud to be associated with it. My brony friends have helped me learn to love and respect myself a lot more than I used to. There are far, far worse things someone could be.
Yeah this video was just made in good fun. I don’t really care what people do or don’t like. People can do whatever as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone. I’m a comedy channel so I obviously focused on the ridiculous aspects. But if people can find communities where they’re happy and accepted that’s really all that matters. Like you said there’s cringe parts of all fandoms and I think the coolest thing a person can do is be comfortable being different. I Appreciate the insight!
there was a history of toys exhibit at the CA state fair last year. And it came to the 80s toys. And my little pony original toys. No one was really there as the main attraction by all the kids was the Chucky doll in the exhibit and kids were just fascinated with it. So I was looking at the 80s toys and there it was. As I observed it,someone stood next to me to see it to. There a beat silence, then I just sighed. The stranger laughed. We both laughed. Its like my disappointed sigh at the toy we both loved as girls became such a... history. We didnt have to say anything we both knew.
