This video has seen an uptick in views due to recent events regarding the other members of the band. They have since left and as of writing this update, Tim is the only member of As I Lay Dying remaining. While exactly what transpired is unknown, it is almost certain that Tim’s behavior is a key factor, as many of the members have made references to their moral limits being tested. It seems Tim has not learned his lesson and likely never will. (10/31/24)

But in the eyes of his family, friends & ex wife, if i were in their shoes, idk if i would be able to have that strength.. the amount of hate & dread to have toward someone, especially towards someone you loved once, is pure evil. I do want to open a discussion regarding the instrumental section of the band. A big part of me agrees with you when you say they don’t deserve the scrutiny, but a small part of me does not agree. Obviously, there was a lot of mental strain to make the reformation happen, but why did it even happen in the first place? To the public, it just looks like the whole band swept the situation under the rug and wanted to continue on as the biggest metalcore band to ever exist, ignoring the MASSIVE elephant in the room.
Maybe I’ve got the wrong take, but I’d love to hear other opinions.

I played in a local band in the early 2000's and I left due to a membe's drug and alcohol use. He was just the nucest guy when he was clean and sober but as soon as he had a drink or did a drug you basically feared for your own safety and the safety of others. I tried to talk to him about it and he was mad at me for not following his lead in living the "Rock Star" life. I told him we weren't rick stars but just 4 guys who wrote and played metal. I expressed my concerns with the other members but they didn't seem concerned at all just mad he was disappearing before practice and for a couple days at a time. I tried to talk to his girlfriend she said that he was abusive towards her and she was staying out of it. I finally collected my stuff after work one evening and never came back. His girlfriend begged me not to quit because if he came home and my stuff was gone then she wasn't sure how he would react. He ended up calling me and cussed me out for about 10 minutes. I simply told him I was done if drugs was more important than our musical partnership. He told me he enjoyed drugs and he could do both. I told him that he missed the last three practices because he ran off. He didn't seem to care so I told him to find another guitar player and I was keeping all the guitar parts that I wrote which was basically all of our songs. I never really spoke to him again after that phone call.

Great video man! You did an excellent job putting into words how I am sure many of us felt throughout this, especially those of us that came up with AILD in the early years. Obviously, what he did was absolutely morally horrendous and it can be understood why people wouldn't forgive him. The stress it caused to Nick and the other members of the band is also completely understandable. However, AILD had a major impact on the genre, myself, and many other fans. For this reason, I choose not to associate Tims's actions with the art they created. No matter how much I despise the choices he made, I could never stop listening to AILD. Shadows and Oceans are in my opinion 2 of the greatest albums from that timeframe with The Powerless Rise not too far behind. These records came out during my teenage formative years and helped shape my music taste forever just as so many other bands did on those late-night Headbangers Ball episodes. So, to sum it up...Tim absolutely fucked up and made a big piece of shit move but the art he helped create was pure gold!

It's weird to watch this all again after all the band members left again lol, especially cus a new album is coming out soon so it's definitely gonna be interesting to see how it's all layed out.
I honestly am just curious of what went down that made every new member leave. As the way Phil worded his statement ("After witnessing some concerning patterns of behavior, I've realized that I can no longer, in good conscience, enable further actions that could negatively affect anyone working within this space." on his instagram i think?) makes me wonder and kinda fear for the people around Tim. Especially because Phil only thanks the newer ex-members in his statement.
A year late to comment to this but this is still a really well made video.

I remember seeing them with demon hunter at like the "big" local venue like in 2008 or 2009. I've been to like 40 shows in total there and it was one of maybe two or three times I've seen the entire floor as a pit
I remember when the report came out I was like holy shit no way
Also I do remember some of the lefty youtubers I watch covered it as well :o

I was a fan of as i lay dying, I was just 16, with an ocean between us. After tim's arrest I stopped listening to them after that. I decided to buy their record shaped by fire in 2019, and I even saw them in 2022 with whitechapel, shadow of intent, and brand of sacrifice. It's real intresting that they all left after saying they would come back and make another record with espcially phill was still in the band not leaving.

The most disgusting thing is to see all the people that have defended and rationalized his actions. Comments like “He didnt go through with it” or “He did his time” are so aggravating because of their falsehoods. I was a huge fan, Tim was a hero to me growing up. But when this all happened I was done. I still play old stuff but I refuse to listen to anything new and I will never support them again. The fact the other members ever went back is disappointing.

My most memorable time I had with them was in Louisville, KY. I dont remember who they were playing with, but they remembered me from a past show, and we had some mutual friends. I was able to keep my purse behind the merch table while I danced. And then after the show we all had pizza. It was good times. Never would have thought.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe jordan sued the members of the band for a chunk of money as like a payout for his portion. If he was suing them he probably couldn’t talk to them. Usually you’re told to stay away from people you’re in legal battles with

My cousin was a very strong black belt in martial arts (I believe he had a 4th or 5th degree black belt), and could do the splits against a wall. He was into martial arts for many, many, many years, but he began to lift weights to help build muscle and strength; he wanted to become the next Bruce Lee, and he was on his way in achieving that goal.
That all changed when his “trainer” introduced him to steroids. Sure, he bulked up, but he really changed for the worse. He became very, very aggressive towards his family - especially his father. He did lose his hair, and he stopped doing martial arts.
I haven’t heard anything about him since his father passed away.

Then when the single dropped, I called my homie at 2 in the morning to show him the new AILD. We played it on repeat for at least an hour lol. Regardless of the things that transpired, AILD was a huge part of growing up🔥
