    Just ordered my 4th 1600AF a few minutes ago. Out of my 7 total PC's in the house, my old Intel hardware is dropping fast. Will only have a G4560 and i3 4330 left for my garage and bedroom media PC. 2 other Media PC's will now have 1600AF and my kids two PC's will now have 1600AF. All on Tomahawk non max boards I got around $73-79 on Amazon. $60-65 16gb RAM 3200mhz kits. Great value upgrades. My PC's think they are on the Oprah show, you get a 1600, and you get a 1600....

      Don't forget this is stress test temps. Real world scenario will be 10-15c lower unless you are doing something like video encoding 24/7. This chip can handle 90c no problem its the MoBO VRM staying under 115c that you have to worry about but if you are not running the crappiest of boards you can comfortably go to 1.3V and run 4.1GHz+ OC, get an aggressive fan curve and never see more than 80c during standard operation. People always underestimate the inability of games and day-to-day tasks to get more than 3-6 threads loaded at once. Especially seeing those overblown stress test temps.

Don't be afraid of pushng a little juice through the temps are fine with the stock cooler. Mine went to 41.5 I settled at 4 gig with 1.375v, parts don't get used for years anymore and I bet over engineered and will still work fine overvolted in 5-10 years time. I have an msi mobo and at 1.4V, I can’t even go 3.9GHz stable. But in that stress test, the cpu power consumption doesn’t go over 67W. What is going on in my setup?

    • @AlexanderVRadev
      @AlexanderVRadev 4 года назад

      First how did you measure CPU power consumption? Only way to know for sure how much power is drained is physically from the wall for the whole system. I would not trust software reading for power measurement.
      Your chip sounds like it is behaving like old 1600AE and not the new 1600AF. Are you sure someone did not sell you first gen chip for second gen?
      It could be memory issue (90% of issues are memory ;) ) Even if all you did was enabling the profile sometimes RAM just craps up when you OC the CPU. Try setting the ram to 2133 and try again. Rizen has another voltage (depending on mother board the setting is called differently) that should be withing certain range from CPU voltage. If you pushed CPU voltage too far but left that at stock the MoBo might be failing to deliver the necessary power and cause the PC to fail once you push the CPU.

    • @danisantos3255
      @danisantos3255 4 года назад

      Alexander Radev Yes, power measures were from onboard readings and I was dumb, it was during the aida64 stress test but when I ran a heavier program, it got to much more than that (90W I think?) I was just confused because I saw other reviews while testing on aida and their consumption appeared higher.
      I did try to disable XMP but I couldn’t manage it to work...
      On cpu Z it shows up as a 12nm cpu, is that accurate?
      Edit: the reviews I saw was actually this test haha
      And I’m not running any overclock at all, figured out that I couldn’t even reach 3.7ghz stable at voltages up to 1.375v (can’t remember correctly). Some people then started saying it could be my psu, I have no idea...

    • @WrongButtonWB
      @WrongButtonWB 4 года назад

      Emilio, you can use ryzen master to check the cpu voltages at the coresponding frequencies, ranging from 3.2 to 3.7ghz. In my case, 1600af stays at 1.2v only at 3.2ghz (1.19v actually). 3.7 ghz pulls about 1.265v. But, 4.0ghz is rock stable under stress load with only 1.29v.
      It is all "luck of a draw", but getting a decent motherboard and wellknown psu brand will help with oc stability.
      That's more important then running your cpu with 1.2v or 1.3v.

    i Get 85c on 3.7ghz! On Stock Cooler is This From Cpu or The Cooler?

    • @AlexanderVRadev
      @AlexanderVRadev 4 года назад +3

      Few options.
      Option 1 - your bios by default pushes too much voltage through the chip. Some boards do it on all chips others might do it because they treat the 1600AF as the original 1600 which needed far more voltage to get to higher speeds. Solution is to go to bios and see what voltage is set. If it is too high set it at 1.2-1.25 and you should be able to run at 3.8-3.9Ghz easy.
      Option 2 - lack of airflow in the case. Many cases, especially cheaper ones have terrible airflow. Doe your case have good air vents for fresh air. Do you have at least 1 fan in the front and 1 fan at the rear moving air? Is your fan speed sufficient to move enough air? dust filters, front panels especially temper glass can choke the PC. Try removing your side panel and see if your temps improve. Fix airflow if necessary. You can try removing teh front panel and/or dust filters to see if that is the problem.
      Option 3 - low fan speed. There is a possibility that your CPU fan is not properly increasing speed with temperature. Make sure you plugged it in the right fan header. Fan curve and speed is controlled through bios. Check to see and increase fan speed if necessary.
      Option 4 - bad thermal paste application or cooler is not making good contact. Solution - remove cooler. See how the paste look. If it does not cover the whole CPU you put too little paste. If there are areas on the chip where the paste is too thick or looks different than the rest probably the cooler did not make good contact or was not tightened properly. Reapply paste and reinstall cooler. Remember more paste than necessary is fine. Less than necessary is a problem. In very rare cases your chip and cooler have too big and matching convex on them so they can't make proper contact and need lapping. No cooler or CPU is perfectly even. I would not worry about this though just reapply paste before deciding to sand off the cooler. And do not lap the CPU itself if you have no idea how to do it safely.
      Option 5 - you can always have an issue with bad temperature reading. What program are you using to read temperature? Try another one. Software reading is never 100% accurate. For example z77 Asrock boards had an issue with reading temps years ago. What is your board? Some low end boards with bad VRM might develop have an issue and pump more power through the chip to compensate for the shitty VRM and lack of VRM cooling. But if that is the case I'd worry more about your VRM temps if they go past 105c Up to 110c is acceptable for most VRMs.

      @AlexanderVRadev 4 года назад +3

      No. The upper limit is 3.85 on that specific CPU with 1.2v. He chickened out at the start of the race. You can comfortably put more voltage through that chip and get past 4GHz. 1.25-1.275v at 4GHz should be reasonable. Keep in mind every CPU is different. You will have higher temps but that is stress test temperatures he is showing. In actual day-to-day use you will never stress the CPU that much unless you are doing video encoding or something like that. Hell not even then. so you will be 10-15c cooler than stress test temps at worse, unless your case has no airflow. And this CPU can handle 85c for long time in case you somehow manage to find the one game in the world that can push all 12 threads to the max. Many people in the comments of this very video report hitting 4GHZ at 1.3V (sloppy fast OC with no fine tuning but it works ;D) and still get 80c stress test and 50-60c during gaming.

      Yes it can. The board should recognize it as R5 1600, so any b450 board should be able to run it fine. Only issue you can get on a b450 board would be with a third gen CPU if your bios is not up to date and can't recognize the new chips that were release an year after the board. Many boards however have no problem if they were manufactured after Rizen 3 released. And many have bios flashback option so you can flash the bios whit no CPU inside. Not sure if yours has the option, I think the elite did have it but I am not 100% certain. And it doesn't mater since the 1600 AF is not third gen its second gen 2600 masquerading as 1600 so it should even run in b350 boards on stock bios from the first zen release.

    Microcenter is selling the 2600X at $100 and the 3200G is at $80. Not sure it's worth the time and risk to hunt down the AF, assuming it's the AF version you are getting

    1.2v???????
    Oh hell no. Cmon its 75c, you can hit it with at least 1.3-1.35V run at 4.1-4.2GHz and it will not even go past 85c-90c during a stress test. In gaming probably never hit above 70-75c.

    I ran my 2600x accidentally at 4GHz due to a bios setting being enabled by default. It ran up to 97C normally with the most it hit was 103C. I only set it to 3.6 this morning since I was scared it would melt itself

    • @AlexanderVRadev
      @AlexanderVRadev 4 года назад +1

      lol. 1.3V at 4GHz...... yeah that should be more than stable and cool AF even on stock cooler.
      You ether have a problem with bad cooler mounting / paste application, or you have absolutely no airflow in the case.
      The 2600x should be able to do 4.0Ghz at 1.3V (or even lower like 1.250-1.275) on the stock cooler and stay at 80c-85c depending on room temp during a stress test, and at least 15c cooler in normal operation.
      Try removing and remounting the cooler with fresh paste application and try the OC with the case side panel off.

    So basically if you push this thing to the limit maybe get 10% more performance. I disagree with his statement that you might notice this in gaming. Only going to get 10% more fps if you are completely cpu bound, and even then unless you are staring at the fps counter will never notice the game feel any better. Imho

    • @AlexanderVRadev
      @AlexanderVRadev 4 года назад

      10%? Yeah sure. Only he did not OC properly. 1.2V? Joke. This gets to 4.1GHz all core easy. And a 6 core 12 thread CPU only for gaming is pointless even in 2020 so yeah you will not notice it much in games. If you are actually doing something like video rendering, re-encoding, AI work etc you will notice it alright.
