Quite easily one of the most naturally gifted to easily grace a rugby pitch, his running and offload were quite simply sublime, the stuff dreams are made of. He was so consitently good as well, surely one of the greatest All Blacks of all time. Hell this guys resume is incredibly impressive.

I remember watching SBW in league with those shoulder hits, then the following Monday the boys would try and emulate those hits during lunchtime rugby lol. Always enjoyed watching him play, but it always pissed me off how much hate he would receive on social media. None the less, his achievements all over sport was through his hard work and really good to see retirement treating him well!

👍 True, I use to watch Shane Webcke,
From the Brisbane Broncos, play late 90s, & he had a mean shoulder charge on him even knocking players out, then he came up against Bull - dogs Sonny boy - Williams & Sonny knocked him out I remember that game & thinking wow!!!
If you can knock out Webcke, this Williams must be a human wrecking ball running around on the field.
      "Awesome" player.

he was one of my hero's.
He called the attack on Christchurch a cowardly event. we all agreed (obviously) and he was a role model and idol.
now the attacks on innocent people at a festival are justified and applauded by him!!!!
a thousand people killed and taken hostage and executed. children. wives, daughters , sons , parents.
      innocent people, DEAD !
sonny bill doesn't care about people. it's all false!!!!
he only cares about people who follow his controlling terrorist views!!!
his sky wizard is more important than the lives of people enjoying a festival.

He has inspired hundred's of thousand's of young men world wide, showing them that they can make some thing out of nothing and more importantly that you can do it by holding onto your Morals and Principles. What is not connecting with me re what SBW is saying and I could be wrong is that he appears to be suggesting that only his Pacific island brothers are into " off loading" As a small boy in Thames NZ I was coached you kicked the ball out as far down the line as possible employing a spiral kick from inside your 22 m zone and outside that zone you ran the ball, you drew your defender even half beat him amd OFF LOADED. you always backed up the ball carrier. You only kicked the ball as in a grubber kick when defences were tight. I read a paper that I inherited from my father that suggested Rugby instincts have to be learned before the age of 12 or 13 and those instincts are as described above you OFF LOAD, the purpose of the game is to score Tries. What is also very disconcerting is that the Fijians, the Tongans and not to the same extent but still bad the Samoans all play ridiculous head down bull at a gate Rugby when they play 15 man Rugby as the recent games have demonstrated. Why do they do that? Forward thinking coaches down the years were, are ruining Rugby and the Northern hemisphere and Boks are dominated by forward coaching, kicking for territory, head down dumb forwards who never , very rarely OFF LOAD,, cowardly up and unders, runing the ball from inside your 22m zone and kicking away possession outside the 22m it is crazy, One other thing that is also a disconnect is that when there is a turnover of possession it seems even the All Blacks first option is to kick the ball when it should be slung wide ASAP. My strongest suggestion is the SBW be employed to coach the Pacific island national 15 man sides they desperately need his expertise. Frankly when he came to Rugby it was a breath of fresh air INDEED.

An individual talent yes I'd agree, but you people are kidding yourselves. SBW was the reason we drew against the Lions for a blatant shoulder into a Welsh head resulting in a red card and a drawn series. This being considered acceptable play has been an influence in the current drop in form of the whole AB franchise, since that series we have gone to the dogs, remember it's not the player in the team it's the team in the player, currently the AB's play like a group of individuals. Having a coach seriously out of his league and seriously out of touch with his team like Foster is" did not give Sony the right to play as an individual either!

What a terrible post, poorly written and well off the mark. Did you finish school or are you just a slow learner?

"walk the talk" LOL. poor old sonny dill should never be let near a microphone. His skill was on the pitch, not as an intelligent, articulate speaker. R.I.P brain.

how is it poaching most of those kids grow up in NZ for their whole life, they have a choice to not play for the all blacks they can represent their own nation.

You have no idea. Almost all NZ island players are born and/or raised here in NZ. NZ is itself a pacific island.
There are almost as many Samoans here in New Zealand as there are in Samoa, most of us are born here in NZ too.

@@JMz685 Thats not my point at all I just don't get how its considered poaching when they grew up most of their lives in NZ, they don't have to play for the all blacks they can play for Tonga, Fiji, Samoa etc. So how is it considered poaching when these players choose to represent the all blacks.
