- Faversham is a historic market town in Kent, England, with a rich history dating back to Roman times. Visitors can explore the town's many historic sites, including the 800-year-old Faversham Abbey and the Maison Dieu, a medieval hospital. The town also has a number of well-preserved medieval and Tudor buildings, such as the Guildhall and the Market Place. Faversham is also home to the Fleur de Lis Heritage Centre, which tells the story of the town's brewing and gunpowder making industries. There are also many lovely walks around the town, including along the creek and through the surrounding countryside.
Thankyou so much for doing these videos Dean despite the weather. Appreciate you mentioning me too!
No problem Debbie.
Great video , big like
The shop at the far end of Abbey Street was owned by Mrs Hales or Howells. I lived in a house for a very short time next to the Anchor pub when it was run by the Fentimens who owned the house and my mum used to buy lots of things from her shop. She was such a nice friendly lady.
Pretty sure some of the Fentimen family still live in the cottage next to the Anchor too. (and of course Fentimens yard further along)
St Marys school is built on the old District School playing fields, I played for the District School football team on them back in 1964/65, they was probably shared with the old Grammer School in Church Rd which was still open back then.
Where QE school is, there was a cherry orchard and allotments. Also the path alongside was Y shaped called The Shoots.
Stephens, was a general store and then became a builders place, O’ Learys.
Abbey Street Howells, and Stephens on the corner of Abbey Place and Abbey street.
st marrys old infant school I was there in 19 77 and remember it very well
Have a few old books about Faversham if you are interested, including about Gunpowder, Abbey Street and a book of sketches by Jack Salmon.
