Hmm... Hi Guys, there are some people who claim that it is sad ending, and there are also some who claim that it's a happy one. I will explain you some details then why this drama has SAD ENDING for GISEOK (Jang Dong Yoon). 1. When Hyerim (Chae Soo Bin) came to the park while crying and looking at Giseok's back from behind, and then decided to leave, she realized that Giseok might want to confess his feeling to her. It is true that both Giseok and Hyerim might be liking to each other because THEY ARE USED TO DO EVERYTHING TOGETHER SINCE BABY. But, after the new guy Dongyeong (Jinyoung) came and made Hyerim's heart fluttered, she seemed to be affected by his charm, and SHE COULD NOT HELP IT, just like her father did. That's why after hyerim saw what her father did then crying and dongyeong tried to comfort her, she asked to dongyeong "why do you love me? It's just one month after we met" then dongyeong answered, "no reason for that, no reason to love someone, you just couldn't help it". Then hyerim realized her true feeling. She was fluttered toward dongyeong. However, she was too comfortable with giseop and she was also afraid to hurt giseok who had been together with her for so long. She was once afraid that she could become cheater if she accepted dongyeong's feeling. However, she could not help it. 2. The phone call that Hyerim received when she entered her room at the end scene, it is actually from Jinyoung where she mentioned: "See you later in Seoul". This drama clearly said Dongyeong is from Seoul. It means Hyerim and Dongyeong have been together (dated). 3. At the end scene when Giseok hugged Hyerim, he said that "I should say good bye" and then "a tight hug for an ending to warm your heart." The one who hugged first is Giseok, he might remember that Hyerim ever said that hug may have meaning that it is not ended yet. Giseok may want that it is not ending for both of them. But in fact, Hyerim already went to another guy and she really couldn't help it. 4. Hyerim seemed to like Giseok because they have been together and Giseok is always there for her. Meanwhile, her heart fluttered for the first time because of Dongyeong. I feel so so so bad for Giseok, he was there actually when Hyerim was with Dongyeong, whether it was when the raining (he even got fever because of that and Hyerim even did not know about this), he saw Hyerim cried and was comforted by Dongyeong when Hyerim knew the fact about her dad and the piano teacher, but yeaah... once again... This special drama seems want to convey us (the viewer) that heart or feeling is hard to be controlled. Feeling is like season! (It's CHANGEABLE in particular period, but then it comes back to its certain season in a circle in a year). The title is "IF" we were the season. It might mean. They are NOT the season. They change, but they cannot go back to their particular period/time. So I consistently think that maybe the director wants to give this message to the viewer. Hyerim once rejected Dongyeong (2nd male lead) because she previously assumed that she NEEDS TO BE Loyal. However, she then literally changed. But, Honestly, in Real Life, I do think that someone like Giseom (who keeps being there with us is more worthy to have our love). The saddest part of this story is when they have a mutual feelings to each other but end up not telling their true feelings. This tear me up so much. 💔
That ending scene where Hyerim could see the train already arriving and her face suddenly changes at the sight of it because she knows it's about time for her to leave Giseok. And Giseok could somehow sense it too, so he hugged Hyerim to finally say goodbye... tightly... but Hyerim didn't hug him back. And it showed a flashback to when Hyerim said "A tight hug is good for an ending. That seems more heartwarming. And it feels like their story hasn't ended yet." So although Hyerim didn't hug himback, she did close her eyes and bury her head on his shoulder. Like agreeing that yes, this is not yet the end for us. As the title goes, if they were a season, they eventually have to change, they are bound to end. That, everyone, made my heart broken beyond repair.
I have watched these actor grow and expand over the years ….but you know what? They had it from the beginning of their careers and innate ability to Draw you into the story that showcases their natural talent. I look forward to their new endeavor to come for many years. This series continues to be one of the best avenues for up and coming actors in the K drama world. Bravo for a job well done.
This drama is so short and simple but it pulls at the heart strings. I came here expecting a normal/cheesy love triangle but ended up in a ball of emotions. I understand why Hyerim decided not to take that next step with Giseok. Her father's words about not wanting to cheat but couldn't help it was too much for her. She didn't want to take the risk with her best friend, but the ending gives us closure that maybe they still have a chance at love.

Love the way the ending matches with the title. The beginning of a warm spring symbolizes their relationship-sweet,playful and warm just like a friendship. But towards the end it is a winter signifying feelings like hopelessness,sadness just as cold as the season itself. Buttt this isn't a sad ending cause a winter also paves the way for spring to come again. And as the hero tightly hugges the heroine,he is giving her the ending she wanted and hope for a new beginning-a new spring. Hence,if we were a season,we'd be winter

What you say is very true, but I don't think it applies for this story. You can't force yourself to love someone but that doesn't mean you can't value them either. If you see, throughout both underwent the pain of losing their best friend. It was both who cherished the friendship and desperately longed for things to return back to it's original form when it fell apart. He was embarrassed and hurt for it just wasn't about not being loved back but him not being at the receiving end of that love. She on the other hand was in pain for not being able to reciprocate back and how it hurt him. He lost the person he loved and she lost her best friend. Pain demands to be felt, doesn't it? I personally thought that it was very realistic. That's exactly how it is in real life, you may not love the person who loves you, irrespective of how caring loving honest he/she is. I really liked when it was said "would I stop liking you if the reason no longer exists?" You don't love someone for a reason, if we'd we shall always fall for the right person you see :p We as an audience are sucker for the handsome, caring, loving, selfless characters and them being childhood friends made us ship them even more. But that's us, the viewers. If our life was a movie and we were the main characters and there was someone who loved us, would that make us fall for them too? Someone watching it from afar might want us to end up together, but will we?
I've watched this yesterday and I realize some things. Hyerim and Giseok both have feelings for each other and they know it. They've been together since their diapers and how their feelings for each grow each season. Hyerim have some issues with her father. Like why would his father cheat on her mother? They're married , they have her, they've been together through thick and thin then like what was the reason? When the supporting lead confesses to her, she can't lie she have feelings for him, the way it makes her heart flutter when she first saw him and his cheesy lines. Maybe it made her feel things she never felt with Giseok before, because he's straightforward unlike Giseok. The reason she didn't accepted him is because she doesnt want to be like her father. She know for herself that she loves Giseok. And when she ask her father what was the reason for his cheating, he said he can't help and tries to avoid it but he can't. Hyerim doesn't want to be like his father. Although Donggyeong made her heart flutter and feel things, she felt like she would cheat on the man she loves even though he never confesses to her, that's why she rejected him. And she's afraid Giseok and her will experience the same situation just like her father and mother. She wants them to be separated and give each other some time until the right season comes. Because true love never fade from someone's heart.
I've watched this twice now. And I still cried as hard. This is such a gem, that cannot be replaced by anything. It just hit so different in the heart. Still hoping for part 2 since the day it was released . . .
She foreshadowed it at 19:47 saying 'Geez I hate it when it ends with a kiss' and 'it makes it feel like it's really the end' I think that was really clever scripting because it makes the viewer see the end of this mini drama and think so their story never really ended. That's great

I totally can relate in this drama. The line, "If you do not know the answer, just ask". In reality, it's really hard for us to ask someone if he/she likes us too. Not that because we're shy to ask rather, we're just afraid that it might be the answer we don't want to hear. 😢

@@ritikaritu3089 I think it is what it is. No more season 2. She turned down the second lead because she felt like she's cheating on her bestfriend. Maybe she already felt that her bestfriend is in love with her that is why she rejected the 2nd lead even though she likes him.

I don' get why people still have questions. It's super clear. She didn't went out with the other guy. She told him no. But she couldn't tell his childhood friend that she likes him. The ending with the hug is a confessing, saying it's not the end for them (just like she said while watching the movie with him). She said that she felt guilty after eating with the new boy, lying to his childhood friend. Her father cheated on her mother. He didn't had a reason, he said he just wanted to gift her the music sheets. She felt guilty, she felt like she did the same as her father. (Maybe because her heart really fluttered for the new boy. She even left her bike and walked with him home FOR NO REASON like her father). She knew the pain of cheating from her father, so she knew how her childhood friend would feel. She punished herself for doing something bad as her father. She didn't went out with the boy because she always loved her childhood friend. But she couldn't forgive herself for what she did, so she lied to her childhood friend. But it's still a happy ending.

You can tell the person Haerim is truly in love with is Giseok. When Dongkyung confessed, she literally doesnt look like she's in love with him or maybe her heart did flutter a bit. But she cried when she rejected Giseok and those tears are not tears of sympathy but its like how she's hurt because she actually loves Giseok too. Its after what her father said that she felt like she might hurt Giseok if they took a step further. This might be bcos her heart cant help but flutter when she's with Dongkyung or its just because she's afraid to be in a relationship cos its not the right time yet so she lied to Giseok. Its really heartbreaking to see them hug at the end with the tears since it could mean that their love is truly ending or its just the beginning. Srsly if this were made as a drama series the story could've been explored more :( Still one of the fav drama i watched tho cos i'm not usually a fan of boring romance but this one is definitely different and worth watching. The chemistry between the leads are amazing. Hope to see Jang Dongyoon and Chae Soobin in another project

I actually disagree... rather than love to me it felt like she knew giseok liked her, and because they were so close, she sort of felt indebted to him and guilty of "cheating" even though she had no romantic feelings for him. I don't think at any time it is shown that she likes giseok at all... its always him instead. But if you feel better that way.... I guess...

It's a happy ending actually, that tight hug in the ending says it all, it's an open ended movie. Remember Hyerim saying that a tight hug for an ending is more heart-touching because it feels like their story hasn't ended.
She's crying while rejecting giseok means she didn't mean what she say. She's just afraid of opening up a new relationship with giseok because of what his father did. She's not ready to commit with giseok because shes scared jumping in a relationship after what her father did and they are bestfriend too.

Loved it. A nice sad love story and a great lesson towards friendship made my heart warm. Cried a lot watching this and felt bad for giseok but every story doesn't have a good and a beautiful ending.

Rewatching it this 2023. I like Hyerim and Giseok love story here. They started to be like siblings who hate each other but story didnt go the way i want it. I waited for part 2, but yes. That's just how their story goes. Love their chemistry

When she said, "I thought my heart fluttered because I fell from the wall. So I kept saying to myself that I don't have feelings for him. But I couldn't help it," to Giseok, maybe she was pertaining when she fell from her bike and Giseok caught her at the beginning of the story. She just lied about her true feelings to Giseok in the corridor and copied what Donggeyong said. Maybe because she caught her father cheating on her mother and got scared that she might also cheat on Giseok because Donggyeong makes her heart flutter. Also, there's a belief in Korea that says, "If you are out in the first snowfall of the season with someone you like, true love will blossom between you". And about them hugging means that's not the end of their story. When the train came, she can't say goodbye to Giseok because she doesn't want to end their story. Instead of waiting for her goodbye, Giseok just hugged her. A tight hug for an ending to warm her heart. I like that the director gave us an open ending to this film. It feels like Giseok is her home. She's going to Seoul and study there, finding her true self. And maybe to heal her wounds when she caught her father cheating and have the courage to confess her true feelings to Giseok.

School 2017 also had an adorable couple that had a similar dynamic to this. In fact the secondary protagonist in School 2017 is the male lead here.

She does have feelings for the second main guy thats why towards the end she finally confessed to the main guy pretty much saying she chose the Seoul guy because he makes her heart flutter subconsciously which she can't control from stopping. She never admitted it to herself because she doesn't want to be like her dad, like how she secretly felt bad saying she feels like she is cheating on the main guy. But just like what her dad said he couldn't help it it just happened subconsciously the feelings. She is with the second main guy, thats why on the phone call at the end they reference should because thats showing that she and the other guy are together.

When Hyerim first cried when she saw her father with the other woman I thought "oh, she's sad to see her dad cheating so that's why she's crying" (and I'm sure she was sad to see her dad cheating). But when she said the same thing to Giseok that her father said to her ("I couldn't help it"), it made me think she may have been sad because she thinks she's no different than her father. Helpless to an emotion she thinks is wrong. That's why she asked Dongyeong on the way home why he liked her when he barely knew her, like her dad liked that lady when he might have barely known her. It's like she was trying to figure out which feelings are real and which are not, which are right and which are wrong. But in the end, whether or not she could explain why she felt the way she did, she felt what she felt, and that was that. This was so well put together! Well done.

I just found out this short drama and fell into it. Its storyline was so touching and meaningful romance. I just know Jang Dong Yoon from Nokdu and Search so that I am looking further on his works. Casts are all good actually. So surprised he’s just a rookie in acting career but his works are so impressive. SBS please have season two for this drama, it’s gonna be successful for sure. Their both chemistry wasn’t joke at all. ❤️🥰

Merry Christmas everyone! Rewatching this wishing for a story continuation. I chose this as my alarm while waiting for 12midnyt (2hrs ago) Our favorite season and our fave soundtrack.
I honestly didn't think a hug could actually felt this sad, even tears just came flowing out. I'm just in awe with how the story plot goes and the cinematography as well as the background music. It was beautiful ... it really did portray how giseok and hyerim meant to each other. They were equally as important and precious that they were scared to loose each other. So one decided to throw away her feelings before she hurts him any further, and when the other decides to muster his courage to confess, it was too late. :'( I really didn't expect this special would be this sad 😭, I thought it would be a youthful and light drama but I thought wrong :| It's really good tho :)))

That ending scene where Hyerim could see the train already arriving and her face suddenly changes at the sight of it because she knows it's about time for her to leave Giseok. And Giseok could somehow sense it too, so he hugged Hyerim to finally say goodbye... tightly... but Hyerim didn't hug him back. And it showed a flashback to when Hyerim said "A tight hug is good for an ending. That seems more heartwarming. And it feels like their story hasn't ended yet."
So although Hyerim didn't hug himback, she did close her eyes and bury her head on his shoulder. Like agreeing that yes, this is not yet the end for us.
As the title goes, if they were a season, they eventually have to change, they are bound to end.
That, everyone, made my heart broken beyond repair.

This drama is so short and simple but it pulls at the heart strings. I came here expecting a normal/cheesy love triangle but ended up in a ball of emotions. I understand why Hyerim decided not to take that next step with Giseok. Her father's words about not wanting to cheat but couldn't help it was too much for her. She didn't want to take the risk with her best friend, but the ending gives us closure that maybe they still have a chance at love.
"I've been ignoring you. How could I be well?" that line broke my heart! I want a part 2!!!

The beginning of a warm spring symbolizes their relationship-sweet,playful and warm just like a friendship. But towards the end it is a winter signifying feelings like hopelessness,sadness just as cold as the season itself.

What you say is very true, but I don't think it applies for this story. You can't force yourself to love someone but that doesn't mean you can't value them either.
If you see, throughout both underwent the pain of losing their best friend. It was both who cherished the friendship and desperately longed for things to return back to it's original form when it fell apart. He was embarrassed and hurt for it just wasn't about not being loved back but him not being at the receiving end of that love. She on the other hand was in pain for not being able to reciprocate back and how it hurt him. He lost the person he loved and she lost her best friend. Pain demands to be felt, doesn't it?
I personally thought that it was very realistic. That's exactly how it is in real life, you may not love the person who loves you, irrespective of how caring loving honest he/she is. I really liked when it was said "would I stop liking you if the reason no longer exists?" You don't love someone for a reason, if we'd we shall always fall for the right person you see :p
We as an audience are sucker for the handsome, caring, loving, selfless characters and them being childhood friends made us ship them even more. But that's us, the viewers. If our life was a movie and we were the main characters and there was someone who loved us, would that make us fall for them too? Someone watching it from afar might want us to end up together, but will we?

I've watched this yesterday and I realize some things. Hyerim and Giseok both have feelings for each other and they know it. They've been together since their diapers and how their feelings for each grow each season. Hyerim have some issues with her father. Like why would his father cheat on her mother? They're married , they have her, they've been together through thick and thin then like what was the reason? When the supporting lead confesses to her, she can't lie she have feelings for him, the way it makes her heart flutter when she first saw him and his cheesy lines. Maybe it made her feel things she never felt with Giseok before, because he's straightforward unlike Giseok. The reason she didn't accepted him is because she doesnt want to be like her father. She know for herself that she loves Giseok. And when she ask her father what was the reason for his cheating, he said he can't help and tries to avoid it but he can't. Hyerim doesn't want to be like his father. Although Donggyeong made her heart flutter and feel things, she felt like she would cheat on the man she loves even though he never confesses to her, that's why she rejected him. And she's afraid Giseok and her will experience the same situation just like her father and mother. She wants them to be separated and give each other some time until the right season comes. Because true love never fade from someone's heart.

It's super clear. She didn't went out with the other guy. She told him no. But she couldn't tell his childhood friend that she likes him. The ending with the hug is a confessing, saying it's not the end for them (just like she said while watching the movie with him).
She said that she felt guilty after eating with the new boy, lying to his childhood friend. Her father cheated on her mother. He didn't had a reason, he said he just wanted to gift her the music sheets.
She felt guilty, she felt like she did the same as her father. (Maybe because her heart really fluttered for the new boy. She even left her bike and walked with him home FOR NO REASON like her father). She knew the pain of cheating from her father, so she knew how her childhood friend would feel. She punished herself for doing something bad as her father. She didn't went out with the boy because she always loved her childhood friend. But she couldn't forgive herself for what she did, so she lied to her childhood friend.
But it's still a happy ending.

You can tell the person Haerim is truly in love with is Giseok. When Dongkyung confessed, she literally doesnt look like she's in love with him or maybe her heart did flutter a bit. But she cried when she rejected Giseok and those tears are not tears of sympathy but its like how she's hurt because she actually loves Giseok too. Its after what her father said that she felt like she might hurt Giseok if they took a step further. This might be bcos her heart cant help but flutter when she's with Dongkyung or its just because she's afraid to be in a relationship cos its not the right time yet so she lied to Giseok. Its really heartbreaking to see them hug at the end with the tears since it could mean that their love is truly ending or its just the beginning.
Srsly if this were made as a drama series the story could've been explored more :( Still one of the fav drama i watched tho cos i'm not usually a fan of boring romance but this one is definitely different and worth watching. The chemistry between the leads are amazing. Hope to see Jang Dongyoon and Chae Soobin in another project

I actually disagree... rather than love to me it felt like she knew giseok liked her, and because they were so close, she sort of felt indebted to him and guilty of "cheating" even though she had no romantic feelings for him. I think Hyerim and Giseok have feelings for each other and maybe they also know it. When Donggyeong confessed his feelings to Hyerim and asked her to date him, Hyerim looked at Giseok's house. When she said, "I thought my heart fluttered because I fell from the wall. So I kept saying to myself that I don't have feelings for him. But I couldn't help it," to Giseok, maybe she was pertaining when she fell from her bike and Giseok caught her at the beginning of the story. She just lied about her true feelings to Giseok in the corridor and copied what Donggeyong said. Maybe because she caught her father cheating on her mother and got scared that she might also cheat on Giseok because Donggyeong makes her heart flutter. Also, there's a belief in Korea that says, "If you are out in the first snowfall of the season with someone you like, true love will blossom between you". And about them hugging means that's not the end of their story. When the train came, she can't say goodbye to Giseok because she doesn't want to end their story. Instead of waiting for her goodbye, Giseok just hugged her. A tight hug for an ending to warm her heart.
I like that the director gave us an open ending to this film. It feels like Giseok is her home. She's going to Seoul and study there, finding her true self. And maybe to heal her wounds when she caught her father cheating and have the courage to confess her true feelings to Giseok.

School 2017 also had an adorable couple that had a similar dynamic to this. In fact the secondary protagonist in School 2017 is the male lead here.

She does have feelings for the second main guy thats why towards the end she finally confessed to the main guy pretty much saying she chose the Seoul guy because he makes her heart flutter subconsciously which she can't control from stopping. She never admitted it to herself because she doesn't want to be like her dad, like how she secretly felt bad saying she feels like she is cheating on the main guy. But just like what her dad said he couldn't help it it just happened subconsciously the feelings. She is with the second main guy, thats why on the phone call at the end they reference should because thats showing that she and the other guy are together.

When Hyerim first cried when she saw her father with the other woman I thought "oh, she's sad to see her dad cheating so that's why she's crying" (and I'm sure she was sad to see her dad cheating). But when she said the same thing to Giseok that her father said to her ("I couldn't help it"), it made me think she may have been sad because she thinks she's no different than her father. Helpless to an emotion she thinks is wrong. That's why she asked Dongyeong on the way home why he liked her when he barely knew her, like her dad liked that lady when he might have barely known her. It's like she was trying to figure out which feelings are real and which are not, which are right and which are wrong. But in the end, whether or not she could explain why she felt the way she did, she felt what she felt, and that was that. This was so well put together! Well done.
I relate so much to this movie. Never give up cause the first time I asked my best friend out she denied but right now we've been dating for almost 2 years. Never give up😢HWAITING

I just found out this short drama and fell into it. Its storyline was so touching and meaningful romance. I just know Jang Dong Yoon from Nokdu and Search so that I am looking further on his works. Casts are all good actually. So surprised he’s just a rookie in acting career but his works are so impressive. SBS please have season two for this drama, it’s gonna be successful for sure. Their both chemistry wasn’t joke at all. ❤️🥰

Rewatching this wishing for a story continuation. I chose this as my alarm while waiting for 12midnyt (2hrs ago) Our favorite season and our fave soundtrack.

I honestly didn't think a hug could actually felt this sad, even tears just came flowing out. I'm just in awe with how the story plot goes and the cinematography as well as the background music. It was beautiful ... it really did portray how giseok and hyerim meant to each other. They were equally as important and precious that they were scared to loose each other. So one decided to throw away her feelings before she hurts him any further, and when the other decides to muster his courage to confess, it was too late. :'( I really didn't expect this special would be this sad 😭, I thought it would be a youthful and light drama but I thought wrong :| It's really good tho :)))
