This is what romance should be, lyrically speaking. "The Epic of Gilgamesh, A pretty little black A-line dress," this line always gets me. Seems only Nick Cave could combine those two into a coherent yet romantic concept. Brilliant.

this version of the song (a truly masterpiece) kicks ass - drums, bass, voices and the guitars... everything seems perfect to me... and the guitar solo of warren ellis is not of this world!
DCoyote67 yeah-this is my go to version too! I love the album, but this one serves even more of that Velvet Underground/Sonic Youth/Jesus & Mary Chain/Dinosaur Jr/Happy Mondays/Brian Jonestown Massacre/etc realness that’s packed into the original recording. And those lyrics! Nick’s lyrics are always on point, but here he’s on fire.

One of the greatest lyricists there’s ever been, wouldn’t be putting many bar Bob Dylan; john Lennon and Neil young ahead of him.
Leonard Cohen is up there in my opinion, and a great influence Mr Cave. Other greats in my book are Stephen Merrit? David Lewis Gedge, Andy Partridge, Mark Oliver Everett. Lots of quiet geniuses out there.
