I have lived in Delray all my life. I am 66 years young. I appreciate your vidio and the wsy you kept to facts and didn't add ugly comments. We have been neglected by the the city of Detroit for many years. When I see piles of garbage, which I might add are 90 percent from people bringing it in from somewhere else, I report it but usually nothing is done. If I had money I would pay to have it cleaned up. Now the bridge is being built but they're not cleaning it up! But I could rant for hours. Thank you again.😊
Thanks for the comment, Mary. I've been researching Delray for a few years and photographing every building that is left in the neighborhood. I've learned a ton and never met anyone who wasn't kind. A lot of people say bad things about Delray, but I've never had a bad experience there that wasn't to do with the city's disinvestment.
fort st to springwells and chamberlain to lawndale to Lafayette blvd is where i lived in delray 1978 till 1982 remember the under the freeway streets we partied there went to southwestern high school
I live in Delray on South St. as a child. Sadly the house I lived in is no longer there. I still have family who still live there. I do ride my bike thru there once in a great while. Thanks for sharing your ride.
Ive lived right outside of flint my whole life. I do rides through the abandoned neighborhoods and little known roads that plague the outskirts of the city. Bike culture isnt very big here so riding these streets is all the joy i can get in the city.
I have lived in Detroit simve 1985 and worked on the Hordie Howe Bridge for about a year. The Bridge did do some things for the neighborhood but demolished large parts including homes and businesses.. You should have included the main sewage plant across from Zug Island. I also worked there for two years. I also bike in the city and Grosse Pointe.
Yeah, there's more I wish I could have fit into the video. I plan to do more like this, so maybe I will do another Delray video in the future as an update!
That motorcycle club house on Dearborn Avenue used to be the Walter's Billards Hall. I used to play pool there very often. Now, the place belongs to The Iron Coffins ⚰️ Motorcycle Club.
Love that I found you. I live is SF California looking to move next year. As a avid cyclist seeing the city from a bike view is awesome. I’ll bed looking forward to your videos. Can you find any rides with elevation? I know Detroit doesn’t have much but anything you can find would be a video I am interested in. Of a 15mile ride from a off city location to a city location for food or a day ride n lunch type day. Cheers
Thanks for watching, Jonathan! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I do almost all of my riding in Detroit-not much elevation here, but I am hoping to take a few rides around Michigan this summer, so stay tuned for those 😃
Very cool. I really appreciated this format, thank you for sharing your knowledge and putting in the work to make this! Lol I’ll be singing “country roads, take me to delray” from now on
Nice video. Used to work in Delray. Bad roads though, especially after it rains. Has some nice views of the Detroit and Rouge River though. Good eats on Fort St and over by the Marathon refinery.
We grew up on Melville between West End and Green St but actually closer to West End near the railroad tracks. We used to play on the tracks and we played baseball on a field filled with rocks and broken glass. It was our baseball park. We also would spend hours hitting rocks with sticks and playing games of baseball that way. My dream as a kid was of course to play for the Detroit Tigers. My idol was Dick Mcaulife (and Al Kaline) who used to bat real open stance. Does anyone remember when the Soap Factory exploded by Leigh Park? Does anyone remember the cops who used to cruise the neighborhood in a big sedan who we called the Big Four? Does anyone remember the Gypsies all dressed up playing the violin on the street corner? Lots of pollution everywhere. Al's bar was good for Friday fish dinners. I went to Holy Cross, served as an altar boy.
Why did you play baseball in a field of rocks and broken glass, with the Delray Recreation Center aka Lee-High Park at the other end of Melville? Leigh Park had 3 baseball diamonds. Yeah, I do remember Wayne Soap blowing up. I was in the hallway across from the library room at Morley Elementary. When I turned the handle of the water fountain when the doors of the classrooms facing the playground. Wayne Soap was a half block further past the school playground. The classroom doors flew open to the hallway with dirt, rocks, and broken glass from the classroom windows facing the area of the playground and Wayne Soap. I thought I triggered a bomb to go off and blow up that side of Morley Elementary. I ran towards the school office and told assistant principal that I didn't mean to blow up the school. All I wanted was to get a drink of water, and BOOM. Scared the shit out of me. I thought I killed my fellow classmates.
Thanks Red, I've been looking for someone who does bike rides thru Detroit, especially at night. Have you got a lot of flats on the side streets? I used to go ride in Portland Ore. but that city is just too dangerous now. Homeless camps built across bike trails with the occasional open air chop shop hacking up stolen cars, 911 calls backed up for hours. Was nice, Portland has some very good bicycle infrastructure but why would I want to go biking in a place where I feel the need to be packing a gun?
I don't have a ton of issues with flats, but I've gotten pretty good at avoiding obstacles. I also go with tires that are better for durability than speed. I always have extra tubes just in case, though! 😂 New riding at night video coming out tomorrow. Sorry for the late reply!
I think they leave bicycle riders alone for the most part but there's no guarantee ... There is a reason they call it the danger zone... Don't ride at night... Especially if you're a woman
I’m a buckeye so I don’t want to compliment you…but I like you’re videos. Do you enjoy living in Detroit? I know Delray has a pretty negative opinion attached to it, but would you agree with those opinions?
Sorry for the late reply. Most people's opinions on crime in Delray (and Detroit in general) are dated. Crime still exists, absolutely; however, it isn't as rampant as it once was because there simply aren't as many people in Delray. If you look on the Detroit crime map, there is less there than in nearby areas because of this. I do not live in Delray, so I can't comment on what it is like to stay there. Love living in Detroit and cycling around the city, though! Go Blue 😉
be careful my friend, car struck me on sidewalk by car pulling into commercial driveway trying to beat traffic. another friend killed by careless driver. I dont mean to scare you but certain gangs and people want to hurt you just because thats the way they are. otherwise I enjoyed your video.
Love the video. Didnt love the whole "carbon emissions" crap when talking about cars driving all hours. Seems a little much. Like youre an AOC green new deal climate change nut. As far as feeling safe, try it night, hahaha.
Truck looked like he was working, with one lane, get out of the truck's lane. You make cycler's look bad for things like that. Construction zone, why are you antagonizing vehicles?
Imagine proudly saying "and I've never felt unsafe" ride around alone at night, in certain areas. See how safe you feel continuously dong that. Crime stats don't lie. They don't mean every single time you go out, you'll be in danger. It's probability. You sound like one of those liberals that belong in San Fran and the reason why gas prices as high.
Come to Delray and smell the air, and you might change your mind! I've got a video coming out tomorrow riding around this area at night. I do this a lot, never an issue. Only issue is almost getting hit by cars not paying attention 😂

Love the narration, and the balls it took to take a semi truck head on with a bike 🤣
Thank you, Michael! I was just minding my business riding down a road that was under construction when they entered the chat and chose violence 😂
