    I now have a YBL 830G Xeno and discovered that the valve actuated in a completely different way to my Holton TR181. The F valve OK gave the 6th position but the G flat, only 5th position. To get the G or 4th position, you have to press both valves. For me, this was incredibly confusing as I for all my life the G valve was used for 4th position. After much research and my own trials, l discovered that if you swap the two slides around, and they do fit perfectly, you are able to still have the 6th position as well as the 4th position and that still allows for all the bottom register to speak perfectly. The slide is incredible as well as the slick valve action. After the few weeks of owning it, l absolutely love it. There's no resistance at all in any note or register!.......Thank you Yamaha.

    How about a comparison with the 822G? The 822G's gold brass bell seemed to have a warmer sound and blended better than the 830's yellow brass bell. The yellow brass bell was more direct and focused/ compact sound. Awhile back, some of my friends (all professional Trombonists and Tubist) and I compared some Yamaha Trombones awhile back and we all agreed that the gold brass bell gave a wider and warmer sound. I own a 822G and it fits me very well.

      Love my 822g. I had a Bach 50OG, but was never comfortable with it. Tonally it was all over the place, like no two notes responded tonally the same. But the 822g is very uniform in it's tone colors and response. It does what I want without having to compensate for what it wants, like was the case with the Bach.

      The 822 l believe is a double 'Dependant' which l consider totally pointless.

      @@denfinch5694 - So you play a Holton and know all about the 822g. And I care exactly why? Never could do much with a Holton, but wouldn't be arrogant enough to write what you feel you need to without actually playing one as a daily driver. Tip: the folks I play with don't find my 822g "pointless" and that counts more to me than your opinion.

      @@musicofnote1 Any so-called 'Dependant' bass trombone is pointless. I've played a few and they're all a waste of space!

      @@denfinch5694 - I played an independent Bach for 20 years and found the instrument in the 822g that turned me loose. Back then my buddies had no problems with my playing, nor did my conductors nor the audiences. But I did. Like Doug Yeo is more of a "waste of space" than you are. Doubtful. A waste of space is the guy who works his mouth and can't do what others can do - play a horn and get the musical job done to the satisfaction of leader, section members and audience. I can, both independent and dependant, you can't. Who's playing tghe "waste of space", who IS the "waste of space"?

    What are the differences between dependent and independent triggers? Would it be something a casual player would notice?
    And what are the differences between the YBL-830 and YBL-822G in regarding tone, responsiveness, and general playability?

    • @carlenger9707
      @carlenger9707 2 года назад +2

      Indepdent meaning you can use either trigger independently of the other. I.e. meaning that you can play a gb in first position by just pressing the second valve, just like how you could play an f in first position by pressing just the first valve. You can tell this horn is an independent configuration because the two vales are stacked on top of each other. With dependent triggers, the second trigger will either be next to or at an angle to the first valve.
      I haven't played the 830 or the 822, but since they're Yamahas, they're going to be pretty responsive. I would imagine they play pretty similar to each other. There a couple things to note though, especially regarding tone and reponse/ease of use: The 822g is going to have a warmer sound than the 830 because it's gold brass instead of yellow brass. Also it is only semi-open wrap as opposed to fully open wrap so it will have more resistance when you're using the triggers than the 830. The 822g also has its removabe second valve, so that might be something you would find useful.
      I could see either as being a great horn for anybody, but I have yet to play either of them and I want to.

    Hi Keith. First time commenting and questioning on here. I own a Yamaha 613G which I have been playing for I believe the last 13 years or so. Been thinking of the possibility of switching to the 830 or possibly the Conn 62 HI (Played a conn single rotor bass in college - don't remember the numbers and liked it a lot) my 613 allows me to play g, d etc in first position with the second rotor. Not sure how the GFlat works into the 830 etc. my 613 actually has a slide extension for the second rotor. Need some advice here. What do you think??

      Please be aware that there is a Conn double independent that is very difficult and painful to hold, and activate the plugs. I saw a video on this matter but unfortunately, l can't seem to find it!.....

    Hi there, please may l have some advice, please. I currently own a Holton TR181 but l've always found there to be a resistance when activating the F valve and 3rd position downwards from Eflat below the stave. I think that the YBL830 Xeno with it's open wrap tubing design will alleviate this problem. When listening to your bottom register, it's very much more consistant. Also, l was considering the Conn 112H. Which instrument do you feel would serve me better than the Holton? Thanks very much. Kind regards. Den Finch.

      @@mondotrombo7167 The most expensive doesn't mean the best. It's totally subjective and a matter of personal choice. My Yamaha YBL 830G Custom Xeno wipes the floor of anything I've tried especially when considered they are retailed at approximately £4,500 GBP. The superior open wrap design is pretty perfect and the action of the plugs is amazing and silent!.....The slide is quite astounding to say the least.
