Vilma has not really evolved from being a star to being an artist. She is multi-awarded, yes, but what difference does it make? She’s recognized locally but global recognition remained wanting. Simple: her films did not merit international acclaim so much so that her acting not at far with international standards which was obvious. She patronized commercial movies. Most her films were regarded by film pundits as mere representation her and her producers’ intention to make money. They failed exhibiting Filipino cultures and traditions. Most of her works sank without a trace. She did not risk doing roles which challenge her thespic talent even when she matured fell short giving her fans and movie going public movies that will long be remembered.
