  • In this video we head up to Northern Minnesota to do a little scouting for some snow wheeling, and end up doing a little demonstration on Toyota's MTS traction control situation and hopefully help you figure out when you would want to engage the system. Multi Terrain Select is a very good traction control system that simulates lockers on both axles of your Toyota vehicle, it does this by modulating the ABS, and computer controlled throttle to transfer power from the wheel with little traction to the wheel with the most traction.
    Next time you find yourself in a sticky situation on the trail do not hesitate to hit your Multi Terrain Select knob and give it a try.

    Great demonstration. I've been enjoying your exploration and the testing of your 4runner. I bought my 2018 off road in April and I love it. Had an 07 FJ too. Lifted both. My understanding is you would use mud sand dirt for deep snow...Mts/atrac is most definitely a tool, and not a gimmick! Keep the vids comin!

    I like your video, I've been thinking about a Tacoma lately, but then Toyota decided to do away with their A-Trac, and I was kinda disappointed, because I didn't know what the MTS settings were for, but now I got the gist of it.
    Thanks

      It's basically an adjustable a-trac, and works really good for most situations, I don't think you can go wrong with a Tacoma off road

      @@RiverRatsTotalOutdoors I have a 2011 Suzuki Equator RMZ-4 typically a rebadged Nissan Frontier which has ABLS which is basically Toyota's version of A-Trac and I love it, but it is nothing compared to the MTS which is more refined I take it.

      i liked A trac, they should have used it as the kind of auto option that could be engaged for those who don't want to fiddle with the different MTS settings like in land rover's auto terrain response.

    Hey bud thank you for your video and very educational for us rookies. Can you please make a off-road 101 video for rookies to have a understanding of what to do when off-roading and what not to do when you have a 4 high or 4 low and a four-by-four vehicle thank you.

    Nice video. So A - Track is the same as multi terrain select, not to be confused with crawl control. Multi Terran select is just different degrees of A Track settings.

    • @themouas
      @themouas 5 лет назад +2

      A-Trac is the basic function of the MTS, MTS is a more advance and more aggressive setting of the A-Trac system.

      I try MTS sand mode+ rear locker on my 4Runner on beach dune terrain. My rear locker motor was broken after just pass few small dune. That sand is quite slippery and I need to spin my wheel pretty much to get through it. Not sure whether that broken is related to this kind of using behavior. But anyway, I’d avoid using this way again… :(

    Why are you afraid that the locker could brake : is it so fragile ? Thanks

    • @RiverRatsTotalOutdoors
      @RiverRatsTotalOutdoors  2 года назад +1

      No there is nothing fragile about it, but it is a fact axles break, putting power to something that has no give causes things to break. I come from the trucking world, specifically the dirt side of trucking, I see axles break all the time. If I can get buy without using the locker I will always try the traction control devices on Toyota are pretty dang good, but they do not completely replace the locker, sometimes you still need to use the locker or your not getting out.

    • @RiverRatsTotalOutdoors
      @RiverRatsTotalOutdoors  3 года назад

      I honestly cant remember, but one thing to note on the settings is that the mud sand snow allows for the most slip before activating mts, and rock or mogul allows for the least, so you can tailor the amount of slip you want to the situation. For example in mud or snow you might want a little more slip to allow your treads to clean them selves and to keep your wheel speed up.
