The Power Half Nelson - A Seatbelt Grip Alternative for BJJ & MMA

The power half nelson is a hold applied from the back of an opponent while leg riding used to turn and pin them in folkstyle wrestling. In submission grappling it can be used to break them down from turtle to prevent them from standing or escaping.

Gordon Ryan submitted someone with this and didn't stop after the gap because he didn't know it could submit someone. Every one looked at him weird for not stopping afterwards and he looked at everyone confused, saying "I didn't use a submission, it was a power half nelson!"

Karl Gotch was teaching that Back Ride with Power Half Nelson combo submission. There's a video on youtube with Jake Shannon demoing it, and discussing how Gotch showed him that move back in 2005.
