Ravi changed my life. I was an intellectual atheist. I listened to Ravi when Christ first tugged on my heart. Ravi answered so many of my questions and criticisms. I love Ravi and I will miss him greatly!
Although I was already beginning to surrender my antagonistic atheism before coming into contact with Ravi Zacharias, he had a very positive influence on me. Ravi was a great admirer of G.K. Chesterton whose book, Orthodxy, was the bane of my intellectual castle of sand. I read that torturous book (now I love the book) at the urging of a Christian friend with whom I often debated. I understood very little of it and so my objections were superficial. At his insistence, I began to go through the book a second time. I thought it only right since he was reading at least two books at my request. Upon completing the chapter titled "The Ethics of Elfland", I found some talk by Ravi about that particular essay, and it turned my world upside down. He illuminated what Chesterton so perfectly pointed out. I later came to realize what had happened. The world didn't turn upside down. It was just that I had begun to turn right way up.
@OneHung Low I wish I could take credit for what I wrote. But if you read Orthodoxy, you will find Chesterton says something very similar in the final chapter. In what are some of the most beautiful words ever written in English, he brings his whole argument to a climax of incredible inspiration and vision. He talks about the skeptic having his feet dancing in idle ecstasy while his brain is in the abyss. Chesterton writes: "The solution is simple; he is standing on his head, which is a very weak pedestal to stand on. But when he finds his feet again he knows it." I urge any believer to read Orthodoxy. If your faith feels muddled and stale, it will be a thrill of wonder and adventure. I'm not so sure about this. I have done a lot of reflection of my own salvation and I can't think of anything that convinced me of the way of Jesus than evidence from JP Moreland, William Lane Craig, Gary Habermas, and of course Ravi. I'm not sure there was any heart there. Christianity was rather inconvenient for me, but my mind became convinced it was true, so inconvenient or not, I surrendered to the truth. The heart developed and continues to develop afterwards for me.

I was encouraged (by association) to have been invited to write an essay for JWM's 75th Festschrift; Ravi also had an essay in there and I felt like a pretty big hotshot to be able to "walk" with him in that way.

Back in 1986 he offered to look over the draft of my doctoral dissertation and help me sort out some organizational matters. He called me back to his office about two hours later. "Done," he said." "WHAT?" was my reply. "Well, I am a speed-reader, you know." He had also taken notes and made some great recommendations for rearranging and adding bits to the work. Even after having known him for 7 years at that point, I was still amazed. He continues to be active, as you might know. He's living near Strasbourg, France, where he leads that annual apologetics and law seminar. And I continue to recommend his books (and tapes/CDs etc. "Tapes." LOL) to anyone who wants to really stretch their minds in the field of history, apologetics, and philosophy. His influence in my life has been enormous. From him I learned, deeply, that truth matters.

IMHO, Zacharias didnt speak simply. I had to rewind the video over and over again to catch what he said and what he meant. When I saw him in person at a lecture in Atlanta, I sat on the edge of my seat holding my breath so that I wouldn't miss anything. The complexity of his thought and speech, this is what I loved about Ravi Zacharias. He will be missed. 😔
When I stated simply, I was referring to what he would say. The words and thought were simple. Things that we should think of and realize ourselves. Yet we do not . Sometimes we need it given to us. Ravi would take something so simple and speak it as though it were a great tapestry he was weaving via his words. Beautiful and brilliant.
Me too. I had a good cry today and now I feel absolutely exhausted. Never has someone I’ve never met impacted me to the point where I mourn their passing. I remember about a year ago, before I knew he had cancer, thinking to myself how lucky we are to have a wonderful apologist such as Ravi in this world. I’m glad his videos will be here to continue to reach more people.
o yes. I never knew when i discovered him in 2014, that I would be sobbing over his loss 6 years later. He’s made an immense impact on my life . He was definitely a virtual father figure. I felt the same way today with Ravi’s passing. I had the privilege to have met him once before. He was a genuine loving human being who loved people enough to do what he did. Truly a loss for everyone from all walks of life. But he is now with Jesus Christ. The only hope for every human being.

And I read commentary by The illustrious Matthew Henry for many years before I realized he was from the 17th century! I thought he was a contemporary commentator until I happened to glance at the copyright, which referred to his lifespan. As Ravi Ji often said, "It's not the speaker, it's the message." So true! And I am grateful we have Ravi Ji, Nabeel Quershi, J.Vernon McGee to listen to long after they've gone to Glory. ❤️

I can't believe he's gone. I honestly feel I lost a father. I have shed more tears than I have in years. I have had such a hard time from being an atheist to becoming a Christian. My mind, to this day, NEVER stops spinning. I argue with myself all day between those two beliefs, 7 years later. I will never let go of my faith, but Ravi helped my constant bombardments of doubts silent. I could breathe when he spoke.
You are not alone in your doubts, friend. God understands. Trust in Him in spite of those doubts and He will reveal more Himself to you. It is the heart that is truly honest with God that can receive reassurance of who He is.
First learned of Ravi few years back when I heard him for first time in my local Georgia radio Victory 91. That man to me was a genius. Even tone and never flustered. Knew exactly what to say. Could listen to him for hours. Gonna be missed but so much we can re watch or re listen to from him. RIP Ravi and prayers for his family ALL OF US 🙏🤴🌬️🌈

I just got word. There with never EVER be another soul like Ravi. He is walking with the Lord right now and Heaven rejoices. Here on Earth, as Jesus wept for Lazarus, we weap for Ravi. I have followed his teaching for decades. Today I'll be spending the entire day reflecting on him. This is a HUGE loss to the church. May others rise up, with the same passion and heart for God as Ravi, in order to continue the ministry. I thank God that He will comfort and give peace to Ravi's loved ones. xo
My husband went home to the Lord on the 9-9 2019, (he was 54)and like Ravi died of cancer. I have memories of my beautiful Marco listening to Ravi as he went through various treatments. Though l shed tears every day, l take comfort in knowing that they are both in the presence of our awesome Heavenly Father..it is in my brokenness, ( yet strengthened) that l turn to the one and only God, who says ..’Let not your heart he troubled, believe also in me. In my Fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so l would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. There is no other deity, no other foundational truth like that of the Gospel. Jesus Christ, our saviour. Right now, in a world so fallen, there is nothing more important than praising a King who offers eternal life. God Bless you Kayleigh.. you’re doing an awesome job for the Kingdom. Let us pray for strength, to continue the race, till it’s our time to go home! 🙏

Amazing. I went to watch the interview of Kayleigh McEnany and when I saw her get so emotional about Ravi Zacharias I was stunned. I had heard of his death but knew nothing about him. Over the last few days I have watched many hours of his sermons and interviews and studied much about Ravi. I hope he knows (I'm sure he does) how much he has launched me on a new journey of awakening and study to better understand my Christian faith and most importantly to intellectually defend and rationalize my heart. I'm not so sure about this. I have done a lot of reflection of my own salvation and I can't think of anything that convinced me of the way of Jesus than evidence from JP Moreland, William Lane Craig, Gary Habermas, and of course Ravi. I'm not sure there was any heart there. Christianity was rather inconvenient for me, but my mind became convinced it was true, so inconvenient or not, I surrendered to the truth. The heart developed and continues to develop afterwards for me.

And I'm sure Gary, Bill, and JP would acknowledge their debt to him as well. I was encouraged (by association) to have been invited to write an essay for JWM's 75th Festschrift; Ravi also had an essay in there and I felt like a pretty big hotshot to be able to "walk" with him in that way.

Back in 1986 he offered to look over the draft of my doctoral dissertation and help me sort out some organizational matters. He called me back to his office about two hours later. "Done," he said." "WHAT?" was my reply. "Well, I am a speed-reader, you know." He had also taken notes and made some great recommendations for rearranging and adding bits to the work. Even after having known him for 7 years at that point, I was still amazed.
He continues to be active, as you might know. He's living near Strasbourg, France, where he leads that annual apologetics and law seminar. And I continue to recommend his books (and tapes/CDs etc. "Tapes." LOL) to anyone who wants to really stretch their minds in the field of history, apologetics, and philosophy. His influence in my life has been enormous. From him I learned, deeply, that truth matters.

Amen. I have heard Ravi speak via a radio and was drawn to his simple yet very eloquent manner of speech. One of a kind man.
IMHO, Zacharias didnt speak simply. I had to rewind the video over and over again to catch what he said and what he meant. When I saw him in person at a lecture in Atlanta, I sat on the edge of my seat holding my breath so that I wouldn't miss anything. The complexity of his thought and speech, this is what I loved about Ravi Zacharias. He will be missed. 😔

When I stated simply, I was referring to what he would say. The words and thought were simple. Things that we should think of and realize ourselves. Yet we do not . Sometimes we need it given to us. Ravi would take something so simple and speak it as though it were a great tapestry he was weaving via his words. Beautiful and brilliant.

Me too. I had a good cry today and now I feel absolutely exhausted. Never has someone I’ve never met impacted me to the point where I mourn their passing. I remember about a year ago, before I knew he had cancer, thinking to myself how lucky we are to have a wonderful apologist such as Ravi in this world. I’m glad his videos will be here to continue to reach more people.

I felt the same way today with Ravi’s passing. I had the privilege to have met him once before. He was a genuine loving human being who loved people enough to do what he did. Truly a loss for everyone from all walks of life. But he is now with Jesus Christ. The only hope for every human being.

Terrell, I listened to Dr. J. Vernon McGee (who went to the Lord in 1986) every morning for 5 years before I realized he'd passed into Eternity many years ago! And I read commentary by The illustrious Matthew Henry for many years before I realized he was from the 17th century! I thought he was a contemporary commentator until I happened to glance at the copyright, which referred to his lifespan.
As Ravi Ji often said, "It's not the speaker, it's the message." So true! And I am grateful we have Ravi Ji, Nabeel Quershi, J.Vernon McGee to listen to long after they've gone to Glory. ❤️

I can't believe he's gone. I honestly feel I lost a father. I have shed more tears than I have in years.
I have had such a hard time from being an atheist to becoming a Christian. My mind, to this day, NEVER stops spinning. I argue with myself all day between those two beliefs, 7 years later. I will never let go of my faith, but Ravi helped my constant bombardments of doubts silent. I could breathe when he spoke.

First learned of Ravi few years back when I heard him for first time in my local Georgia radio Victory 91. That man to me was a genius. Even tone and never flustered. Knew exactly what to say. I just got word. There with never EVER be another soul like Ravi. He is walking with the Lord right now and Heaven rejoices. Here on Earth, as Jesus wept for Lazarus, we weap for Ravi. I have followed his teaching for decades. Today I'll be spending the entire day reflecting on him. This is a HUGE loss to the church. May others rise up, with the same passion and heart for God as Ravi, in order to continue the ministry. I thank God that He will comfort and give peace to Ravi's loved ones. xo
My husband went home to the Lord on the 9-9 2019, (he was 54)and like Ravi died of cancer. I have memories of my beautiful Marco listening to Ravi as he went through various treatments. Though l shed tears every day, l take comfort in knowing that they are both in the presence of our awesome Heavenly Father..it is in my brokenness, ( yet strengthened) that l turn to the one and only God, who says ..’Let not your heart he troubled, believe also in me. In my Fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so l would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. There is no other deity, no other foundational truth like that of the Gospel. Jesus Christ, our saviour. Right now, in a world so fallen, there is nothing more important than praising a King who offers eternal life. God Bless you Kayleigh.. you’re doing an awesome job for the Kingdom. Let us pray for strength, to continue the race, till it’s our time to go home! 🙏

Amazing. I went to watch the interview of Kayleigh McEnany and when I saw her get so emotional about Ravi Zacharias I was stunned. I had heard of his death but knew nothing about him. Over the last few days I have watched many hours of his sermons and interviews and studied much about Ravi. I hope he knows (I'm sure he does) how much he has launched me on a new journey of awakening and study to better understand my Christian faith and most importantly to intellectually defend and rationalize my heart.
