  • A BSkyB Dealers info program which was transmitted on Astra 19.2E. detailing the new lineup of the new Sky channels after BSkyB's merger with the defunct BSB (British Satellite Broadcasting).
    The information in this program is interesting, from lineup of Sky channels on MArco Polo and Astra satellites, to a rundown of programs to be shown on all Sky channels, and market analysis of dish installations and Sky viewers' base in the UK at that time.

    The good old days when you could take your Sky card with you and use it in any decoder. I had a shop and used to watch MTV there during the day in the mid to late 90's taking my card from home, back when MTV was worth watching.

    I just got Sky+HD, primarily due to my memories of Analogue Sky circa 1991-1995. sadly, It just isn't as cool as it was then, it's not as exciting! Analogue Sky had less channels, but there was always something on.. And once you ran out of stuff to watch, there was always RTL & Sat1 to switch to late on a Friday evening as a teenager ;) Who needs to know what they were saying, right? ;)
    It's not the same now. I've had it 4 days and already struggle to find something decent, or not repeated!

      All the German channels are still there on astra 19.2 east - Sat 1, 3 sat, pro sieben, vox and hundreds of others. UK TV moved to astra 28.2 east which is didicated to UK programming.
      The Germans are still very liberal in showing their soft porn later on in the night. (Yes I still have a digital setup on 19.2 east)

      @@speedyman2k7 Actually on "RTLplus". Produced in Italy for cost reasons and so cheap they only had to sell a single advertisement slot to break even. It was watched probably by thousands of people. Numbers modern commercial stations in Germany can only dream of.

    It would have been better if the Original BSB channels Galaxy, Now and The Power Station had been transferred to Astra once Sky sold the Marcopolo Satellites, eventually making 8 channels instead of 5, before the launch of Sky Multichannels in September 1993.

    As he makes reference to the Simpsons number 1 hit record, I'd say this is more like Feb/Mar 91

    £14.99 for two movie channels in 1991. Thirty years on they're still showing the same old films, 8-10 movie channels and can't sell it at £11.99 a month.

    • @Praktycznie
      @Praktycznie 4 года назад +2

      The same? Seriously ? It will never be the same. Sky Sports and SKY News are the same because of the content they broadcast.. but the movie and entertainment service has changed by a mile .. and not for the better .. SKY one has no daytime programming like Kids cartoons in the morning, lifestyle like Oprah and SJR. Constant repeats of the new shows (few eps one by one) I get sick of. I'd rather watch Pick and Horror channel instead of SKY1 especially in the evening. The worst thing that happened to movie service is that the program schedulers were changed to computers. We had repeats in the past but this what we have now is plain idiocy. WHO needs so many linear movie channels with all VODs around .Id rather go back to 3 movie channels like it was in the 90s. Mix of movies + one good classic movie channel. For me SKY is no longer attractive service ... and is a piece of not thought after programming with super expensive price tag .. my 2 cents... ok pennies ;) CHeers!

    Do you maybe know how long Sky channels were fta on astra 19.2? I remember my dad buying an Amstrad fidelity SRX 200 sat receiver with a sat dish back in early 90s just so we could watch them.
    cheers

      Some of the channels started to get scrambled in 1994, I remember UK gold was free (but had to be received on a box with sky's encryption system)

    • @michaelmcdonald2348
      @michaelmcdonald2348 4 года назад +5

      From what I remember there was a delay deciding on the encryption method and all Sky channels were FTA for about a year or so. Sky Movies was the only channel that was encrypted when they rolled out the decoders and cards. The likes of Sky One stayed FTA till about 92 or 93. There were adverts in satellite mags in the early 90's implying that the WH Smith channels (Lifestyle/Screensport) would soon be encrypted but that never happened. Not sure anyone would have paid to watch them.
      The funny thing if you look at the SRX100 or 200 they were designed with a cut out in the top cover, I believe this was where the decoder was supposed to sit. Then of course the huge ugly Videocrypt decoder arrived. Clearly this wasn't the original plan.

    loads of channels all showing repeats,in an age where we have catch up, tivo, and all.We pay for all this,as well as tv licence,strange how we waste so much money on so little.

    After the BSB-Sky merger, the new company started turning it's back on the free to air Pan European market that Astra provided, and took a serious focus away from Europe towards UK only subscription pay-tv provision.
