    The perfect solution is keep churning until you acquire a super duper star....I am not convinced any player on the team fits that description. Forget fit. There is no one on the team to fit with! Not yet.

      There is a thin line between Raptor’s wings who couldn’t make it work and OKC’s undersized SF and PF who had better chemistry and made it work.

    This an undervalued draft class. We should go all-in on this class. We should trade veterans for the top picks. Of the top four slots only Washington is unlikely to trade out of their position. We should grab as many top choices as possible.

    I think this is the perfect class to prioritize fit over talent. This isn't the most talented class with alot of high upside guys. This next season should be about getting pieces around Scoot and Sharpe that will help their development. Trade Grant, Brogdon, Rob-Will, and probably Simons. And get draft picks and players that compliment Sharpe and Scoot cause they are the 2 most important young players on the team and they need them to live up to their huge potentials. Next year's draft is where you can get your next star, not this one.

      @@khaykhay8401 , I'd trade the 7th pick and keep the 14th. This is the draft they should prioritize complimentary pieces to Scoot and Sharpe. And next year's draft is the one they could possibly get the other star. But there's nothing wrong with getting 1-2 good solid role players that compliment the star talents. The team needs another Center and shooters

    It’s interesting looking at the differences between the Pistons and Blazers. Particularly the Ivey pick. He was clearly the best player available… consensus top-4 in a tier above the next group, and only fell to them because the Kings decided to make the high-floor pick. The Pistons took him anyways despite being a bad fit, and will probably have to trade him for lesser value before he gets to his 2nd contract. One could make the argument that this means the Blazers should consider fit, but I think the difference is that the Pistons have an established cornerstone in Cade while the Blazers don’t. Shaedon is most likely to become a star and he can fit with just about anyone. Yes, if they take a point guard then they’ll probably have to decide between him and Scoot within a few years and get slightly lesser value for whichever one they trade, but I don’t mind that. Worst case scenario, Scoot ends up being better and it ends up being a swing and a miss in a slightly depleted draft. Best case scenario, the player becomes better than Scoot and it was a worthwhile pick.
    The only reason I don’t advocate for this myself is because j don’t think there are any guards good enough to consider in that regard, and if there were the Spurs or Wizards would probably take them anyways

    I don't think that there is any guard in this draft that is evidently so good that it would be malpractice to draft somebody else instead, and if there were they would NOT be available at 7.

    • @jonathanevers8019
      @jonathanevers8019 3 месяца назад

      I think this is a really underappreciated point. We can talk hypotheticals about a future star guard falling to the Blazers at 7… but that would mean the Wizards, Spurs, Pistons, and whoever potentially trades with the Rockets all passed up on him. I get the Blazers scouts might just evaluate things differently, but I do think it’s highly unlikely that all these teams that could use point guards would all pass on someone who’s so overwhelmingly good that the Blazers have to take him

    Talent is very important but at the same time we've seen alot of players and teams fail if that player doesn't fit the team or coach. Sometimes when you get that great fit with a player and team it can elevate that player to a level we didn't think they had. J-Dub with OKC, Giannis with Bucks and more. So I do think fit matters more
    An example from the blazers you can go back to Jerryd Bayless he was very talented but the team didn't do a good job devoloping him and he wasn't a good fit with B-Roy. I think DeAndre Ayton coming out of college really needed a veteran that could have taught him how to use his body better and to just have more of an aggressive mindset

    Come on man, that’s some pretty damned egregious damning with faint praise on Scoot there. Cade Cunningham has more upside? Really? Their rookie stats are close enough to be a Rorschach test. I know, let’s draft another SG that’s short Nassir Little bekuz upside. Oh wait, Nas was way better in college and was a late 1st. Holland will never be better than Shaedon, and a horrible fit.

    • @jonathanevers8019
      @jonathanevers8019 3 месяца назад +1

      Cade is built like a small forward and can do anything you want him to on the court. If the Pistons called up the Blazers and offered Cade for Scoot straight up it’s an automatic yes

    • @joelrosenberg3627
      @joelrosenberg3627 3 месяца назад

      And they absolutely should do that if it came up because he's better RIGHT NOW. But also, folks have been chasing the "tall point guard" archetype since Magic Johnson- actually landing one is RARE. I have no idea which has a better career overall at this point. I'm more just not in on even sniffing at "let's move on from Scoot/not care about drafting over him" because he had a typical rookie PG year. If he figures out his 3 point shot everything else falls into place. From what I've seen, it'll probably happen because it's a footwork/handle issue, not a shot mechanics one.

    • @jonathanevers8019
      @jonathanevers8019 3 месяца назад

      @@joelrosenberg3627 it would be because he projects to be better in the future, not just right now, because the blazers are in no position to be focused on the present. And the fact that this archetype is so rare is exactly the reason why Cade has a higher ceiling. Will he his ceiling be as high as Magic’s or Luka’s? Probably not. But the fact that a guy his size is getting >7 assists per game and steadily improving his scoring efficiency within the context of the most inept franchise since The Process indicates the ceiling is extraordinarily high. I’m lower on Scoot than most people, but this isn’t even Scoot hate. Cade is just really really good
      I don’t think drafting over Scoot means they don’t believe in him. The fact that they chose him over Dame implies they do. But the fact is that he hasn’t PROVEN that he will ever be an All-NBA caliber player. We can dispute what we believe is the likelihood of that happening, but until he shows it, the team would be irresponsible to just assume it will happen imo. For as many Darius Garlands and De’aaron Foxes as we like to comp him to who came back from bad rookie PG seasons, there are several Fultzes, Oladipos, and Mudiays. We just don’t know yet what he’ll be
