So far i am between South Park and Dark Souls 2. And i know they are both RPGs, and i am a big fan of other genres and i did play other games that came out this year. But those two games are so far, the best games i played this year. Dark Souls 2 i played so much, that i know almost every single small detail about it. And i can't remember what game made me laugh as much as South Park did. Both amazing games, both great candidates for game of the year award.

I was fortunate to be apart of the Destiny ps4 alpha, and i was hooked very quickly despite the limited content in the alpha, i love the setting and feel of the game, but what i really liked about it the most was the community, everyone i met inside the game was awesome, everyone was friendly and positive which made the experience with the game that bit better, which works out nicely considering that is the sort of community Bungie seems to be aiming for. cant wait for this game!
Hope Dark Souls 2 gets an award for something at least. Game kicked my ass but it was a blast to play though entirely. 84 hours and 145 deaths in my first playthough. U definitely get your monies worth with this game. Refreshing to play a hard but fair game like Dark Souls 2.

I'm not an arcade/indie game fan and so it does annoy me that they are only talking about them. I bought a £499 Xbox One bundle in December and I didn't buy it for arcade games that could be on Xbox 360.
So far this has been one of the worst years for games in a while. There really hasn't been anything of merit yet, just a lot of overhyped next gen titles. I think Dark Souls 2 is still the best, and even that was pretty disappointing to me.

I see 2014 the same, what a weird year for games. Most heard at E3 was "2015"! A quiet year while waiting. No "Ho My God!!!" games came out and none coming out. Destiny Alpha was really fun to play, but for me exactly like Borderlands without the gory and humour. Shadow of Mordor looks like a great mix AC-Batman Arkham game. EVERY STUDIO plays intensely save this year.
Dark Souls 2 deserves it but IGN won't give it GOTY. Not enough people at IGN appreciate the Souls franchise. It sucks because I'm a big Podcast Beyond/Game Scoop fan and they never talk Dark Souls because most of them have said the Souls games aren't for them. Most likely they just don't have the time to commit to the series.
Dark Souls 2 for me. I think people were a little burned out from playing too much of the previous souls games, but it's a really good game. Packed with content, good online, and better performance (on pc).
The only 2014 games I've really gotten into so far have been Strider, 1001 Spikes & Shovel Knight. I'd probably dig Child of Light, Transistor and Mercenary Kings too, but haven't played them yet. I expect to love Destiny & LittleBigPlanet 3 later this year too, as long as they release on time. I'll get Dark Souls 2 eventually. Sold my PS3, and don't really feel like trying to run it on my laptop.
I'm rooting for South Park, since I've been a fan of the show for such a long time, but I think it'll be beaten by something else unfortunately. I will say that it should be known as one of the best licensed games in recent years, as well as one of the funniest games of the year.
I started playing Wolfenstein: New Order recently, im surprised at how good the game is. It might be my favorite game of 2014 so far. I wish COD would put this much effort into their campaign. Bloody awesome.

walking dead season 2 isn't as depressing as the first season so far. the ending could change that but over half way done now with only 2 episodes left, it's been good but it isn't really a depressing tale. it's kind of more of a coming of age tale with clem and showing her more resilient and smart. the reason why season1 was so depressing to me is because you felt a connection to clem being helpless in a world of lawless shit. now she's smart and capable, there is a more confident tone. it's a good story, but i'm not as affected by this yet as the first season

So what I can gather from this... Is only one IGN employee has played Dark Souls 2. While not as good as the first Its definitely unforgettable for new players, considering the new experience, and it's up there for game of the year.
AC 3 & 4 was underwhelming to me considering assassins creed is my favourite series of all time. Unity is the most excited I have been for an AC game in a while with the huge mechanical changes to the combat and parkour. However AC is the epitome of a power fantasy but nobody wants to be a French bad ass. People want to be a Japanese badass. Give me the Asian AC game I want so bad.
It'll be hilarious of The Last of Us won again. But realistically I think far cry 4, evolve, sunset overdrive, most games that come out later in 2014 will have a chance. That's where it all at.
Try MegaMan ZX on DS. It's a metroidvania-esque game. Also, you can play as Richter in SotN if you want a whip or you can play Castlevania: Circle of the Moon on GBA, which is all whip-based. Or, you can play La Mulana on Steam (Vita soon) if you want to play Metroidvania with a whip, that's a lot like Spelunky/Pitfall and challenging + mysterious like Dark Souls, with a 16bit retro look and feel. It's usually on sale for less than $4 and it's awesome.
Batman arkham knight and assassins creed unity will do well, arkham knight will because it's batman I mean c'mon all the ark hams are amazing so arkham knight will end up doing well and ac unity will do well because of the co-op has a lot of potential which ac will release with the strategic side of the co-op

Try MegaMan ZX on DS. It's a metroidvania-esque game.
Also, you can play as Richter in SotN if you want a whip or you can play Castlevania: Circle of the Moon on GBA, which is all whip-based.
Or, you can play La Mulana on Steam (Vita soon) if you want to play Metroidvania with a whip, that's a lot like Spelunky/Pitfall and challenging + mysterious like Dark Souls, with a 16bit retro look and feel. It's usually on sale for less than $4 and it's awesome.

As I've grown older I've found its much harder for me to get pulled into these massive rpgs but Dark Souls 2 consumed me.

Batman arkham knight and assassins creed unity will do well, arkham knight will because it's batman I mean c'mon all the ark hams are amazing so arkham knight will end up doing well and ac unity will do well because of the co-op has a lot of potential which ac will release with the strategic side of the co-op
