We've lived in Deland for 12 years now. We moved from Tallahassee and being in the military, we've been to a lot of places. It certainly isn't for someone who is looking for a big social scene, but if you have a young family or are older, it's not that bad. Like most places there are shady areas (southwestern part), but overall it's not terrible compared to bigger or comparable cities. We've yet to have any cockroach issues, however we had our home built in 2014 so we don't have any large mature trees around us. The schools in Deland and Volusia are not the greatest, but there are other options in the form of charter and private schools. I personally like it because it has a small town feel yet is accessible to the beach and Orlando. Good restaurants are rather limited. The one thing I would caution is anyone moving around here is to avoid Deltona. Schools are relatively very bad and the layout of the city is pure random urban sprawl with zero character. Makes me visually sick to my stomach just driving through it.
I work in deland and there is always an accident on orange camp road. My mother even got into one. You see and hear them happening at least once every day
This is very helpful! I prefer to know what I am actually getting into before I go somewhere. Most of these 'cons' are really positives in my eyes, or something I am already used to in my home state of Texas. Thanks :)
I’ve heard that Sunrail built a station in Deland and it’s opening in July? Is that still happening? I rode the sun rail train from Orlando to Winter Park and then to Sanford and I really enjoyed it. It’s not a fancy train just a commuter train, but I enjoyed not having to drive in the traffic. Also, if the station does open in Deland, I noticed it’s not in the downtown area and too far to walk, will they have the shuttle from the station to the downtown area like they do in Sanford? I’m actually thinking of moving perhaps to Sanford or Deland but still researching
I love DeLand. The palmetto bugs are everywhere in Florida. Sometimes they come in from outside when there's been alot of rain and their size can shock people new to Florida! (speaking from experience more than 30 years ago)
@@TheShaverGroup I live near Ocalla and we have those bugs also. Thankfully, my cats spot the big garden ones when they come in so I can smash them with my shoe. I used to be frightened of them, but I’ve had to overcome that, but it doesn’t happen very often that they get in
Thanks for watching. I wouldn't say I "bash" DeLand. I do say I love DeLand. We've done several videos on Deland, this one brings up some points not mentioned in the others. Let me know what you would disagree with. Check out ruclips.net/video/HOenzXoEsuw/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/IMfYMj7VaKo/видео.html. We go there to fish. I can tell you one major thing he left out. There are druggies everywhere. I don’t feel the town is safe enough for my wife to go into Walmart or the grocery store alone. I’m from Ky so this might be the case everywhere in Florida. I just know we were shocked by it.
Unfortunately, I was having my lunch when you show that big picture of the Palmetto bug! Upon saying that, though, those are in many different cities and states
The number 1 reason not to move to deland is the real locals don't want you here Forno Bello is the best restaurant downtown deland fish house is a good restaurant on 92
this video is about florida. not deland. frankly you just sound (obviously) like you don’t want people moving here. which is whatever, but you’re real obvious. please don’t talk about the difficulties in dealing with hurricanes that far inland when people on the barrier islands lose everything and then can’t afford to rebuild.
As I mention in the video, I love DeLand! I was going for a different perspective, especially for people considering moving here from out of state. Yes, hurricanes are not as severe here but power outages and flooding (street and river) do happen. I don't mean to diminish the problems of hurricane damage prone areas, I was just letting people know what to expect in DeLand.

Thank you for your comments. I like Deland alot too. I still use my GPS in Deltona, even after all these years.
I can totally understand why you moved away from Tallahassee, and i totally agree about Deltona.
I went to freedom in 2nd grade and walked there, I can say it sucked
That roundabout is a nightmare at Kepler and orange camp regardless of what the sign says it's Kepler was for 30 years
Roundabouts are supposed to be safer than traffic lights by slowing down traffic. Unfortunately many drivers don't know how to use them.

Yeah, the truth is I really like Deland. If you need help finding a home in this area, please give me or Kyla a call. (352-459-6281)
You would love Deltona
The traffic is getting very congested from 7 years ago. Not alot of restaurants here either. To go shopping you have to go to Daytona or Orlando.
Yes it is. Unfortunately all the small towns around here have pretty much the same problem. What stores would you like to have closer?
Also, the new houses being built here are so close together you can here you neighbors snore.
Really? That's close! That seems to be the trend everywhere.
Elbow to elbow housing started in Orlando, it reminded me of Puerto Rico when I visited there .

Yes, the new Deland Sunrail station is supposed to open this summer. I hope they have a shuttle, they'll need it, but I haven't heard anything yet.
We moved from Jacksonville to Deland. We Love Deland and feel that it is just right for us. We have not seen one roach since moving here.

Yes, you get used to it. Most places it's not too bad. You really have to have regular pest control for Florida homes.
@@TheShaverGroup We use plug in devises that last a year and never a problem.
I've seen those. I'll have to give it a try.
How do you bash Deland, but then recommend Daytona beach??

I don't recommend either!
I believe he’s just letting people know the cons because most videos showed us the advantages so then people can get a more balanced picture
Thank you, that's true. And this is one of my better performing videos so I think most people like it.

Even small towns are affected, and not just Florida. It's sad.
Why are you afraid for her to go to Walmart alone?
Yeah, one time I had one ask me for money. I barely survived. I can't believe your wife almost went to Walmart - close call.
Is it that bad?
I don't think so. My wife goes to Walmart all by herself.
This is a really good place to live since I live there lol and it is awesome!
Yes, it is!
Unfortunately, I was having my lunch when you show that big picture of the Palmetto bug!

Sorry 😁. Yes, they are everywhere in the south, but I have a duty to inform the northerners before they move to Deland 😆
the blue spring water project is one thing you need to hit on.
Thanks for your comment. It's a good idea, I'll have to do some more research on the topic.
What is the blue spring water project please I live in North Florida
Here's a link that explains it. www.orangecityfl.gov/city/government/utilities-water-resources/project-blue-spring/project-blue-spring.pdf
I prefer Hallandale Beach Florida it’s a bigger city beautiful beaches and restaurants and growing businesses and communities.
Sounds nice!
That’s my city I welcome everybody
Glad to hear that! I think DeLand is a great place to live.
@@TheShaverGroup I don’t live there anymore but everybody welcomed fs

Yes, those are excellent restaurants!
Mwah, you kids stay off my lawn! Nah just kidding 😂
Thanks for telling the truth bud
Thanks for your comment
Mosquitoes??
Yes! They're annoying everywhere in Florida.
6 months of heat try 10 months can't breathe outside for those 10 months hide inside in the ac
No, we have at least Dec., Jan., and Feb. Wait, 85 today, Feb. 1.
Thanks for sharing the pros & cons.
Deadland, Codger County Florida 😅
With all the people moving in, I'm sure that's changing. Thanks for watching!
West Deland really needs more commerce. You need a car just to run out to get a container of milk. Ridiculous.
Thanks for your comment. There is a tradeoff living in the more "country" part of DeLand.
bruh i live there
How do you like it?
@@TheShaverGroup lived there for 21 years and its horrible lmao
@@jamesgregory8171 It's getting better
It sounds like you've never lived anywhere else. The complaints are... strange.
I live in there, deland
I was born there I hated every breath I took their. There was so much crime it is not a place you wanted to raise children
How long ago was that? Deland has seen much improvement over the past 10-20 years, especially in the Downtown area.

Why would anyone in their right mind would want to move anywhere in Florida?
Must be the sunshine!
