বাংলার ডাকাত | Dacoits of Bengal

খগেন্দ্রনাথ মিত্রের লেখায় বা বাংলা সাহিত্যে শুধু নয়, বাংলার ইতিহাসে, বাঙালির ইতিহাসে রয়েছে বাংলার ডাকাতদের গল্প। পলাশীর যুদ্ধের পর থেকেই যে ডাকাতদের উত্থান। ১৮৫৮ সালে ইস্ট ইন্ডিয়া কোম্পানির থেকে মহারানী ভিক্টোরিয়ার হাতে শাসনভার যাবার পর আরও বৃদ্ধি পায় বাংলার ডাকাতরা। তারা ডাকাত, কিন্তু অত্যাচারীদের যম, গরিবের ভগবান। বর্ধমান, নদীয়া, বীরভূম, ২৪ পরগণা এমনকি কলকাতা জুড়ে ত্রাস ছিল বিভিন্ন ডাকাতরা। যেমন চিৎপুরের চিত্তেশ্বর বা চিতু ডাকাত, চাকদহের গঙ্গারাম, সিঙ্গুরের সনাতন বাগদী, তারপর গগন সর্দার যার মুখোমুখি হয়েছিলেন সারদা দেবী। তারপর বর্ধমানের জীবনা ডাকাত, রায়নার গোলাম সর্দার, রানাঘাটের রানা ডাকাত, বোলপুরের ভুবন ডাকাত -আরও কতো। আজকের পর্বে রইল বাংলার ইতিহাসের সেই গল্প হয়ে যাওয়া অধ্যায়, বাংলার ডাকাত।
In the writings of Khagendranath Mitra, not just in Bengali literature but also in the history of Bengal and the Bengali people, there are stories of the bandits or dacoits of Bengal. It mentions how these bandits rose to prominence after the Battle of Plassey and further increased their influence when the British East India Company's rule was transferred to Queen Victoria in 1858. These bandits were seen as tyrants' nemeses and protectors of the poor, spreading fear across regions like Bardhaman, Nadia, Birbhum, 24 Parganas, and even Kolkata. The text names several infamous bandits like Chitteshwar or Chitu of Chitpur, Gangaram of Chakdaha, Sanatan Bagdi of Singur, Gagan Sardar who encountered Sarada Devi, Jibana of Bardhaman, Golam Sardar of Rayna, Rana of Ranaghat, and Bhuban of Bolpur, among others. This story is a part of Bengal's history and is the focus of today's episode, titled "The Bandits of Bengal".
