Very nice presentation. I am just starting homeschooling with my 5 & 7 yo children. I had 2 years of Latin in HS, many years ago. My teacher also taught a 2 year Humanities Class in conjunction. Latin students were not required to take the Humanities class, but most did. Mr Woods had us doing dialog in costume. He also included a little Greek, early arts and Roman & Greek history.
Those types of experiences are the best way to learn! #BelikeMrWoods Haha :) Best wishes as you get started homeschooling your young ones! Always feel free to ask questions here, and I'll try to help. Thanks for your kind comment. -Lauren
@@MamaLaurenHill We actually are starting it this school year and did the introduction and part of lesson 1 today. We are all excited to learn the Latin prayers and some Latin words. :)
Oh we did too! Did you happen to get the DVDs? Leigh Lowe and her "toga means toga" in her Southern accent is an occasional joke at our house! We are allowed to laugh because we are very Southern as well! 😂 We could relate! -Lauren
Thank you for this! I purchased Prima Latina to try for the first time this year with my two oldest, and I have been looking for a video from an experienced mama to do a flip through. This was perfect.
I'm so glad it was helpful, Jessica! I'd still rather hold a curriculum in my hand and look through it, but a Flip Through video is the next best thing, in my opinion. :) Feel free to email me if you need help with Prima. You won't need help because it's so user-friendly, but know I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have. ❤ -Lauren
This was a great flip through and lots of extra pieces of advice that are very practical. Thank you for taking the time to make this! I would definitely be interested in hearing more about why you chose Latin and the benefits. I was also curious if your oldest stuck with Latin in high school or if they chose a different foreign language and if so did they see a benefit from studying Latin. And lastly (sorry such a long post) as I have been researching Latin curriculum I have seen where some use classical vs ecclesiastical pronunciation. I thought I read that prima Latin and Latina Christiana use ecclesiastical but the Forms give an option of either. Which one did you teach? Just curious if you changed to classical later on or stayed with ecclesiastical. And if you make a Latin video I would love to hear more explanation about the difference between the two. Thank you so much for taking time to respond if you’re able to. I appreciate any wisdom you’re able to pass along to a newbie! 🙂
Allison, please forgive my shamefully late reply to your comment. I am sorry it has taken me so long! I didn't intend to stay away from You Tube for so long after my Christmas break. Ack! As for Latin pronunciation, my children would laugh out loud at that question. I always say to them, "Don't EVER say anything like I do with your other teachers or professors, now or in college!" My Southern accent and Latin don't always jive. 😂 We use 'Christian Latin' as described in the Memoria Press Latin series. Honestly, I didn't stress over the pronunciation too much, and that has been good in hindsight. However, I do say sounds the exact same way every time just for spelling reasons if nothing else. I follow the guidelines that are set forth in the Forms series. I'll definitely make a couple of Latin videos, as I think it is so worthy of studying. Truly, if I - not super educated and certainly not classically - can learn and teach Latin to my children, anyone can do it. Feel free to leave any other Latin video suggestions or anything else you might be interested in hearing about. And thank you for the patience in my late reply! xo, Lauren
my kids will be in 5th and 6th next year. they have not been exposed to latin before, would you suggest starting with first form? or should they start with prima, then christiana and then first form?
Hey Lesli! Prima Latina will be too easy for them. You could easily teach them First Form together, whether you choose to learn it yourself and teach them or if you choose to use the videos. Latina Christiana would not be too easy for your 5th grader, but your 6th grader could easily jump right into First Form. Assuming you want to keep them both together for sanity's sake, I would just teach them both First Form together. Then you can all study the same material at the same pace. In my experience, it is easier to teach two the same material since you'll have a "class" and they can learn from each other and have that positive peer pressure. Please feel free to ask if you have questions as you get more into it. I'm more than happy to help you if I'm able! xo, Lauren
@@MamaLaurenHill have you done the Latin or composition videos ? If so can you tell me your thoughts on the teaching videos vs. the academy with a live teacher?

Prima Latina is the perfect intro to Latin. We loved it, loved it.

My daughter is fascinated with foreign languages. She’s recently been asking about Latin so this was very helpful. 😊

I do not understand this concept. Are there no schools in America?
A lot are mediocre, and individual instruction produces superior results anyways
