Back in 2017, I was hopeful for Skull & Bones. It was advertised as a AC4 Black Flag standalone but in 2022, the game advertised is nothing close to what was originally promised. Whenever it does finally release, it will be a massive flop.

Honestly the problem is that Ubisoft has been out of touch with their fanbases for a couple of years now. They dont really know how to make games anymore. They just go for bigger and longer and think that will make games somehow better without realizing it decreases quality
We'll wait for assassins creed mirage, that looks good
@RUclipsName AC Valhalla is a prime example of Ubisoft's issues.
It's way too long and filled with menial tasks.
@@boom5732 you have literally seen zero evidence to say it looks good
@@jasperzanovich2504People complaining that valhalla is way to long. Me thinking valhalla should have been longer and harder. Im Surprised that people haven't complained about How long elden ring is yet.
@@theflamingeagle572 You should probably have noticed the differences by naming those two games.
I'd be willing to bed that Valhalla has a lot more pointless and tedious gathering of items.
They literally said "Forget everything you know about Pirates". No Ubisoft, I'd rather not.
It's just Ubisoft talking big when they are the ones who is underselling games
There actually charging people 70$ for this game 😂
I remember hearing this in an interview, they absolutely lost me when they said that
Ironically it was Ubisoft that forgot what they knew about pirates
No they said forget everything about ac
The most disappointing thing when i saw the trailer at gamescom we had a chance to actually talk with some of the developers. Now i dont wanna give them any shade. From the looks of it the game was very functional (they claimed the „trailer“ was played all in engine.) however when i asked: well what about boarding? After the show ended the answer i got was: „well when you board you two crews just fight each other and if you thinned your enemys crew yours will have an easier time“ „but like- can i help my crew?“ „n-no i dont think so“ „oh thats… a bit… disappointing“
It's quite likely the people you some to were not involved the way you're perceiving them to be
@@irregular1430 they were game developers
@@yhnah1329 yeah, but do you know how much games have to develop? there's hundreds if not thousands of developers in Ubisofts fleet. They could have simply added the highs and lows together for cannon fire for all we know.
@@poofartin8788 bruh if I was a game developer I would know a little bit about the game I'm working on no matter how many there are it's not like there blind robots or maybe they are
@@yhnah1329 if your day is already full of a very specific type of content for almost 8 hours straight, maybe more, it's highly unlikely to seek more of the same content.
Hard to be the biggest disappointment of 2023 when it won’t be released in 2023.
I thought the same thing
came here to say that
Its the disappointment in 2024.
Bruh unless we can go on land and hunt for treasure and board enemy ships it’s not gonna be the game I hoped for
There is a Boarding QTE in this game although not as hectic as the one in AC Black Flag.
@@starwarsaccount5174 yeah more like a 3 second boarding cinematic xD
The game wasn't designed as a single player story. So even if they do add single player exploration elements, they are going to be lifeless and boring because they were tacked on at the last minute. To a game that was initially going to be multi-player only ship on ship battles. No single player. No story mode. No treasure. If you get "hyped" over an ubisoft product, you probably have an IQ in the single digits.
just play sea of thieves
Back to Sea of Thieves for me then!
Ubisoft are simultaneously some of the best and worst developers mainly worst
World class developers but their directors, managers and executives are fucking SHIT. If you gave the Ubisoft developers free hands to create a game it would flourish but that aint happening because of the "upper forces"
No they are very much the worst with some cool ideas and most of their budget going to trailers and cinematics.
@@iateyourkeysandyourwallet1380 no lol they make lots of great games 😂
@@Loci666 they MADE lots of great games not anymore.
@@haplessfurball5497 They can still make great games but their superiors are out of touch with everyone. They either don't listen to the people or they listen to the wrong ones. This problem is hard to figure out.
its a disappointment because you cant get off the ship and fight melee combat, cant dive underwater, etc.
That's why we got sea of thieves
The most disappointing thing I noticed was that you can't leave your ship to explore or gather resources. You can only walk around when you're at an outpost.
Being able to leave the ship to explore around or sneak up into enemy ships was one of my favorite mechanics of AC4...
You definitely can. Haven’t you played the closed beta?
@@Kaiju-Klansman501st I posted this when the trailers and gameplay reveals just came out. I have no clue what the games like now. It would be awesome if they've made it better.

All you had to do was cut every stealth and tail encounter in AC Black Flag and you should've had the basic template for Skull and Bones. HOW IN THE FUCK CAN UBISOFT SCREW IT UP SO BAD??! IT SHOULDN'T EVEN BE POSSIBLE!!!
Because then people would complain they're basically selling a game with cut content/ changed content for the same price . Can't please games nowadays mate 🤷♂️
@@Disciple0fWu_36 And if they would've just did black flag without all the exploration of being an assassin then poeple wouldve whined and complained thats too boring and repetitive just they do every other game
@vinnietorres1145 I telling you bro, can't please gamers nowadays, they'll always find something to complain about so I don't blame companies in a way, but at the same time, can't do a pirate game without the boarding (I think skull n bones doesn't have that) or open land exploration. I'll probably try the game if it goes on sale, but they can always update the game too so we will see how it goes!
@@Disciple0fWu_36 it just like with Diablo 4 players right now, they buy a damn franchise where they have to run the same dungeons over and over again, with a bunch of loot dropping that means nothing but crafting mats, then bitch about the itemization and that their precious uniques don’t drop often enough
@vinnietorres1145 🤦♂️😂 never played diablo myself, but gotta love the community haha
You know I'd genuinely forgotten Skull and Bones was still a thing
It's not a thing. Nobody cares.
I legitimately don't know if this game has even been released yet or is still in beta. And idc. Either way nobody is going to play this trash after about 3 days from launch.
It doesn't even look like a fully realized game. Just AC Black Flag with most of the game play features and content missing. Tbf that's worth like $20 $30 tops. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $5 on sale for it. It is tarnished with the foul stain of Ubishit.
@@Toy1erhahaha you haters always be making the most noise haha boo hoo 😢 cant go on land 😭
Im happy people are now waking up and realizing that video games that have been delayed a million times arent gonna be stellar.
Gtav and rdr2 the 2 best games ever…
Only problem is the games that are delayed always means they’re going to be the best game possible. Delaying a game takes money and resources to keep developing a game there’s no benefit to not delaying it.
If a company refuses to delay to get money sooner then you get shit like cyberpunk lol. People like you are the reason that game was so bad.
@@Kaizor0329 phenomenal games. Sadly everyone good at their job left rockstar so now they’re a headless chicken trying to find it’s head. I hope GTA VI proves me wrong but by how they’re handling RDR2 I doubt it. They need proper direction.
My brother in Christ, anyone with half a brain cell should've been able to tell from that first trailer in 2017 that it was going to be hot dog turd. Like most Ubi products. Only like 1/5 Ubi soft games are even playable. The rest are so empty, soulless and tedious slogs.
Examples: Division, Ghost Recon, AC Valhalla, Watch Dogs 3.
But Siege is still pretty fun, so I'll give them credit for keeping that game alive for so long. Watch Dogs 2 was kind of fun. Idk I never finished it tho, too repetitive and tedious. Compared to Watch Dogs 3, number 2 was a damn masterpiece. Ubi = ass.
Honestly I don’t think it’s a delay problem, it’s just an issue of how the game industry is fundamentally flawed, at least for triple a developers. The incentive structure is so out of wack, I’m a firm believer that, like books and movies, video games are art, but the working environment for development of these games and the structure around this production causes the artistry and creativity in the developers to be stifled. More likely than not, this game started out as what it said on the tin, but because it was a side project based off the naval combat of AC4 they probably didn’t fund it well, then the developers (or lack thereof, because if it’s a forgotten project they probably don’t send as much resources as they need) need to delay, then the company adds more and more requirements to make the game more inline with their current business model (the battle royale shit). It’s just corporations being shitty, the delays aren’t the issue, it’s everything else that causes delays. Reject capitalist game companies, embrace anarchy.
I legit don’t know how they could interpret what people wanted so poorly
Ubisoft needs new leadership
Ubisoft needs to walk the plank.
I've been playing the Beta, I can honestly say, if you come I to the game with the proper expectations l, you will not be disappointed. Even through the bugs, glitches, connectivity issues, and crashes, I've had a blast
This definitely checks out, the game wasnt even out in 2023
This game broke my heart because I just wanted a Pirate experience and instead I got World of Boats.
The things pirates are known for? The things that makes a pirate a pirate and not just a common thief? Yeah, It's upsetting that a pirate game is ship focused....
@@skyblue2708 Nah
Pirates were known for more, for example:
Hidden treasures (there werent super common but there were many)
Raiding settlements
building their own settlements
There is still an island that is completely inhabitated by descendants of pirates
So no, pirates weren't only doing stuff on ships
I get you, i think i will play sid meyers pirates
@@skyblue2708clearly you don't know anything about pirate's as well as not have any pirate history in your family as there's more to being a pirate and firering cannons on a ship as in reality some pirate's never had cannons on there ship's like Grace O'Mallye or Ruari the Turbulent as they would have stealthily board a ship or used a different tactics before boarding a ship and attack the crew before plundering it as well as raiding on land and fighting other pirate's like Grace O'Mallye and Ruari the Turbulent did, sea of thieves is one pirate game where it's more accurately when it comes to what pirate's do like boarding ship's and fishing etc even if it's a online game. Even some pirate's like Ruari the Turbulent lived in castles as well as where ever was safe place for them from the navy.
funny enough Black Flag is what got me intrested in WOrld of Warships
Disappointment implies that there are expectations which can be failed to meet, and skill and bones lacks any and all expectations from basically everyone.
Amazing how a quadruple A company can fck up so bad
I just want a new Sid Meyers Pirates game god damn it
Ubisoft is the reason why it will suck, they have no idea what they are doing much like this game in general, it was on, it was off, it had been canceled it had been brought back. They have no direction for the game and that seems to be the idea behind the last four or five games now from Ubisoft, no direction, no planning, poorly executed, no support. Can't wait to see this one flop too. Maybe this one will be the one that breaks Ubisoft's bank but I doubt it.
It's not the pirate game we deserve, but the one I need right now
The Beta felt FLAT AF. Stale like old moldy bread. Every aspect of it just felt flat and unimaginative.
What’s disappointing is you not listing the things you’re talking about. HOW is it different from what was initially advertised???????
The loss/non-existance of a free pirate experience. the game limits you in a majority of exploratory regions, kinda leaves big chains on the players; not being able to explore islands freely and sneak only enemy ships, etc.
I was hoping for pirate v pirate combat to be included too. Naval combat is fun but I like to also board and actually FIGHT people sword to sword gun to gun.
The truth is, it really isn't. It was never advertised as being a standalone AC Black Flag, they never said it would have any melee combat or stealth features of Black Flag, or anything like that. The truth is that they clearly conceptualised the game to ride off the success of black flag, but all the features everybody was hoping for was just in their imagination.
They saw Ubisoft pirate game and just assumed it would be another black flag, and that's probably what Ubisoft wanted people to think to push sales but it has bit them on the ass.
@@skyblue2708So what your saying is its not the games fault for not delivering, but the fans fault for wanting things that wouldn't come to pass and overhyping the game?
@@megaleafeon7746 That's more of a cop-out response though, because the devs were WELL aware of the comparison people were making with Skull and Bones to Black Flag to the point that one of the devs were "offended" that the comparison was even being made to begin with, you don't have a pirate themed game from Ubisoft WITHOUT someone first bring up Black Flag.
Just played the Open Beta for quite a few hours. Instead of bitching about how it’s not AC Black Flag 2, look at it as its own game? If you don’t have expectations to begin with, you can’t be disappointed. Plus, it’s honestly not even a bad game. It has plenty of room for growth + It seems to have a very wide variety of play styles. If you want another AC so badly, then try another game. This one is a mixture of Sea of Thieves and World of Warships.
True
Fr its actually a lot of fun and not a bad game
Brother you just said it all!! Congrats!!! The people are just stupid and want the same games over and over…. Why make skull & bones looking like assasins creed black flag? Why making skull & bones looking like sea of Thieves? Its just stupid… i strated to play today on Xbox with the ubi+ and i liked the game Its fun, the fights with the ship and stuff
No, it doesnt have any SOT element in it
It hasn't even come out yet they still have time to change things
I played it in the open beta and enjoyed it a lot. I'll definitely be buying it. :)
You haven’t even explained what kind of game it IS going to be 😂
The ships turning on a dime make it play like some old arcade coin game
This will ne BEST games about pirates and naval combat! And I'm HAPPY they didn't add option to roam with your char
Can’t even walk around the ship
been playing the game and i find it to be very fun. sad the beta is over and gotta wait 2 days for pre release of the actual release to play again
Wow a game that comes out in 2024 is going to be the biggest disappointment of 2023 it must be bad
And now the game is a live service.
Sad to what Ubisoft ruined….
This game makes me so fucking mad that I was hyped for it in that inital first trailer and the vision they had for the game was peak. Then they go through years of developer hell and changes to the development team and make this dogshit. Classic Ubisoft being terrible yet again these days.
I’ve already went back to black flag and I’m having a lot of fun
Aaand it's another trailing mission back on land. And the target moves just faster than your walk speed, but also just slower than your sprint speed. Have fun bud.
@@Toy1er Better than the buggy games we have now
This game makes me appreciate SOT
Skull & bones should have looked more like sea of thieves but for grown-ups. Exploring islands, boarding boats and fighting with swords but most important playing with friends. Played the beta and missed the play to gether aspect even while they puched to play the beta with friends.
“First quadruple A game to come out” 💀
Aged like milk lmao.
As a fan of the original version, I hated what Ubisoft did to it but after playing the Beta a few days ago. I actually enjoyed what they gave us.
I will be buying it in 2024 (not 2023 lol) mostly so I can get the ships I want. The naval combat is fun, moreso than AC Black Flag, sure there's still no boarding combat but that is replaced with getting rarer loot.
Agreed. I honestly think all that will get added to the game in post dev eventually. I think it will be a no man’s sky kinda situation with this game
I don’t care about this game, just found it funny the guy never listed one single thing about what they removed from the game/ said what was originally promised. Also it’s coming out in 2024. “Quality” content right here!
Lol, this game is pretty bad ass to be honest. I agree it has a different feel, but still well worth the price.
I agree I’m having fun with it, it’s “different” and that’s not always a bad thing. I came to the game with an open mind
At most this game will probably be the greatest advertisement for Black Flag Ubisoft ever put out.
I remember when Borderlands was originally announced (i still have the GameInformer somewhere) and it had a realistic look and feel to it, but when it came out it was an over-the-top cartoon game.
Just because its not what was advertised or what got you initially excited for it doesn't mean its going to be a flop - it just means it will hit a different audience.
Yeah it’s defo gonna flop
I didnt even know this existed
I’ve been playing for days and with friends and still haven’t found this a disappointment
It’s honestly one of the worst games I’ve ever played
I swear.. at this point Ubisoft is just a huge red flag..
All they had to do was take away the assassin/ sneaking element of black flag, as well as the weird 1st person abstergo quests, then add some more ship/ cannon customization and boom, and multiplayer, and boom great game. Ubisoft once again showing their incompetence.
And now that it's out in 2024, and I've played 20 hours of it... we got a wooden ship driving survival simulator.
Bruh. Gollum. Day Before. King Kong. That’s just off the top of my head
No that's not what they advertised it's what ppl wanted they never said that it was going to be like black flags or advertised it that way
After getting bought by Tencent, Ubisoft maybe is trying to change its fanbase, change their "customers" not fanbases mentality.
Don't even remember signing up for a closed beta but just received an invite
Mind you, they delayed this a while ago and still release with disappointment.
Bold of you to assume 2023
Good thing it’s not 2023 anymore. Stop hating because everyone else is 🤡
Skull n Bones is will be biggest disappointment of 2023 because it 's releasing in 2024. Yay!
Don’t see any problems until I played it to make my own opinion. Stop crying.
This was going to be an ambitious game from the start. I really don't care if it's a disappointment, I'm glad that Ubisoft at least took a chance because they have been very very unwilling to do that. Now if it comes out that they hamstrung the project and set it up for failure then that will be different, but I will not fault a studio for trying and failing.
I saw this comment somewhere and I do kinda agree with it...why did ubisoft go for a 50% pirate game when they gave it to us at 100% in ac 4
They never said it would be like a sequel for black flag people jist assumed it was as they usually do.
I'm pretty sure, while in development ubisoft had 3 different creative directors on this game. Thats never a good sign.
The other reason was....... Helldivers 2 😂😂
Update: Open Beta was fun! 🎉 few days left till launch
STOP COMPARING THE GAME TO BLACK FLAG IT ISNT A SEQUEL, CRY.
the only ones who should be crying are the people who still buy below average ubisoft microtransaction festivals
@@partyv4n908it’s not a bad game, it’s just different than what you expected. It’s not “last Jedi” level.
I actually enjoy the game
This is so wrong, you guys didnt check was originally set to be; a fucking pvp Game. No Open World, no open sailing, just a arena where you shoot other peoples ship and a few npc's, think World of Warships but with 17th/18th Century ships
The thing is everyone expected black flag 2. What we got was a world of pirate ships. Which is exactly what skull and bones was meant to be, a multiplayer navel combat game.
I whole heartedly agree as I had high hopes for this game but it falls very short compared to black flag and Sea of thieves.
A ship battle should require understanding speed, direction of wind, positioning of cannons, reload times, weather conditions. Where’s the sword and pistol fighting? Boarding and repair management?
Nothing will beat the disappointment of the day before
When I found out it was you are a boat I was disappointed.
Already is, AAAA my ass
With the game development tools today - unreal engine - unity etc. there is no excuse for a AAA dev company to make a game that indie devs can do.
Sea of thieves and black flag still hold the crowns 👑
I played the beta and downloaded the full game. It was ok but somehow my inventory got wiped, I can’t create a new character and start over. All the shitbags with no jobs have already got giant ships and they frag the hell out of you as soon as you leave the main safe area. I have since deleted it and put it in the could have been a good game but Ubisoft once again had a good idea and couldn’t execute it efficiently just the division 2, for honor, and the list goes on. They keep this string of shit up they will be the next Bethesda. Least this game wasn’t as big of a let down than Fallout 76.
False advertisement, I feel a lawsuit coming
Duh I knew that when our character didn’t even talk I was like ya this ass shit feels like a 2015 game
I was one of the originals that said this would be good, then, after years of disappointment and changes i still havent bought it and likely will not ever.
I wish they could fix it... ive waited a long time for this just to be keel dragged
Im playing skull and bones right now. And i can confirm it was a pretty big disappointment 😂😂 its not a bad game, but for how long it took for this game to drop, it was not worth the wait 😢
That is literally what it is,a stand alone pirate game. 😂
Ubisoft has some of the biggest, best most CLASSIC franchises under their belt and instead they keep pushing these half baked ideas with no heart. They need to take a step back, look at their IP’s and make a strategic push. Imagine another classic Tom Clancy game or a fresh Prince of Persia? Ubisoft could have the old and young market in the palm of their hand, I grew up playing their games and had the best gaming experiences, yet they do this.
So we're not getting the game that was advertised back then, you could say we're only getting the "skull and bones"
People are getting salty and saying the game looks trash. Part of the reason why it was delayed a lot was because they are trying to live up to ya'lls expectations, and yet yall call it trash. Wouldn't that make your expectations trash? Stop whining and just don't buy the game, i'm buying the steelbook gamestop exclusive, lol.
It's just the outrage culture and everybody desperately seeking attention. The majority of the people complaining can't afford the game and won't ever play it. They can't fit in so they get mad and just hate on something they've never even tried.
Nah it’s just every critics everything now a days and don’t take a game for what it is anymore like we use to
It’s not the game it’s the player
Literally the worst part about AC3 and Black Flag were the boring ship battles. The fact they thought a whole game based around that stuff was gonna be successful is hilarious 😂
yeah instead of a multiplayer black flag we are getting pirate reskinned world of warships
Always was advertise as that literally knew day one is was gonna be sh*t
World of warships is a mess as well. Wallet gaming is the worst gaming company 100 percent. They ruined tanks, and now are ruining ships only to line their wallets with cash. Wargaming sux!
That was never the original plan. The original was 5v5 deathmatches. They instead, barely expanded it to what folks really wanted
Hopefully they just do what the Elite dangerous team did and add the player combat later👀
Ubisoft has always been like this. The early trailers look amazing and look immersive. 2-5 years later, it looks washed up or not like it was originally advertised.
I knew nothing about this game before trying it last night. Think I lasted two hours before just ultimately being bored as hell.
I mean.... they never want us players to enjoy too much. They only give 10 percent of what we want for reason unknown.
Sorry, that title already went to a game released this year
At this point even if Ubisoft made a good game, people would still shit on them
Feel so bad for the developer drones at Ubisoft. Forced to make repetitve crap because the higher ups have no love for games.
It's basically AC4 trying to be Sea of Thieves. I didn't enjoy it very much. Graphics were ok at least.
All they need to do is leave meele combat
Allow exploring of islands and add treasure hunting thats it
Play Black flag then. They literally said we are going to focus on naval not melee combat and people still want what they say they will remove.
