This video is two of my favourite RUclips world's coming together. I love the dead mall series from "This Is Dan Bell" and I love even more that you watch these kind of videos. Mary. You are the gift that keeps on giving.

I've recently been getting into Dan Bell's channel, so this video caught my eye instantly!! It's so sad to see malls die off like this, but so fascinating to see them in their current state. Thanks for making this video, Mary!! I love it!!
When I moved to South Florida 34 years ago, I first heard of mall walkers. The older people can walk in nice cool, empty malls early in the morning. Here it’s to get out of the heat.
It's strange to see, because we don't have many malls here in the UK, but the one nearest to me, called Westquays which is in Southampton, is thriving. It's always busy, and was absolutely heaving over Christmas. That's in spite of the fact that retail stores continue to struggle, because of online competition. I've always liked the idea of a mall , and having all my favourite stores in the one place. I think it helps that it's right in the middle of the town centre, not tucked away miles from anywhere. You can access it from the main High Street, which also still has plenty of shops.
I think you are right about how malls are nearer to town here. I think we also have less of them and they are smaller. I watch those channels where they look at dead malls and I have seen areas where there are two or three near each other. Here it seems there is only one per town so they still have a use. I also know quite a lot that have cinemas in so people come for that too.
Have watched Dan Bell's videos for years now so was it was really cool when you mentioned him. I agree that it's sad about the state of the malls (the UK is quite similar in that regard) but it's also undeniably fascinating at the same time.
Thanks for the tour, Mary! As a kid I loved going to 2 of my local malls but the biggest one was recently torn down. After K-Mart and Sears went out the rest of the place had no chance, unfortunately. Malls just aren't what they used to be.
There are 2 malls that closed near me fairly recently. One was torn down 2 years ago that was my childhood mall. The other just closed last year and is still standing. There’s 3 malls near me that are still thriving but they are constantly adding things and I think that helps a lot. It’s sad seeing malls close down.
I've watched the "Dead Mall Series" many times over. So this like others said, almost feels like a Collab with Dan Bell and Mary! Was great to see this mall, I'm fascinated by malls, since I can't go wander around them like I used to!
Ooh I watched dead mall too ! Kind of like apocalypse. Brick and mortar stores are not making it- hard to have imagined when these malls opened. Wonder how long Mall of America in Minnesota will go on. And what else caught my eye was that you are in Asheboro, NC. I swear back in the day my parents had a lot of their furniture sent from here. Anyway thanks for this walk thru. 🤳🏻🌺👍🌝 and side note the music in the mall here hasn’t been updated since ‘’’80s” either.
Asheboro girl here! Born and raised. I found You through Amalzd asmr channel. I don’t quite remember how but anyway I love you to death and I end up watching your channel all the time.
It was a JC Penny where ya said ya thought a Dillard's was. And on the right as ya walked up to there used to be Aladins Castle arcade where I blew a ton on a Friday or Saturday night. The one place that was empty you put the camera up to and said was big was a Sears Appliance store and Sears main store was just next to it. Dillard's was where Dunham sports is now. And when you was there at the old JC Penny's and talking about the skylights...you pan back around and I spotted 2 "Mall Walkers" LOL..the 1 lady in the red coat is my aunt and the woman on her right is my mom..too funny. Where ya said a little empty kiosk..used to be a large water fountain full of change. And Mama's Kitchen was right next to it. Around the corner was a Disc Jockey music store. When you went to Belks and started back up through the mall, Hallmark store used to be on the left, and beside Shoe Show used to be a Berringtons gifts store, where the Picture People store was ..used to be Radio Shack. Where Kay jeweler's is used to be the Peanut Shack. On the other end of the mall where the Cinimark cinema was..used to be a Roses department store,, my grandpa was the store manager at for a long time, then it closed and that is where Dillard's was and now Dunhams sporting goods. Family pets was almost across from the cinema and they used to have a haunted house set up in the empty store space across from the cinema in October also, but the mall has been on a down hill slide for a while.. I spent many hours there when I was in middle school and a little bit of my early part of high school. Just figured I'd fill in some gaps for some people interested. Been in Asheboro most of my life..pushing 44 years. 😀
Wow. That’s definitely a dying mall. The mall near my town has every store open & lines everywhere - even during the morning. Although it looks very nostalgic. Reminds me of the 90s / early 00s.
It is sad that Malls are dwindling away. My first real job was in a Mall working at a not so cool food place but I loved it. I earned $3.10 per hour. Yes I’m a dinosaur. I felt like I could conquer the world. Wow, was I wrong lol. I feel incredibly sad with losing Kmart, Malls, Dairy Queen among other stores. Thank you for taking us along today Mary.
I'm in Wigan & there is about 5 shops left in the one I'm talking about but they are transforming it into a place with loads of food places & bars, so see how that goes 🤣 x
I would love more mall walk thrus showing the stores. I’ve always been interested in what other people’s malls look like! Look up King Of Prussia mall. That is near me and is one of the biggest in US.
Eli Ogburn unfortunately malls (and retail in general) are dying because of companies like Amazon. People are buying goods online at lower prices without having to step outside. It’s much more convenient but it is sad.
Four Seasons Mall is always packed when I go there, I went one time early morning on a weekday and it was empty. I went when it first opened for the day.
So sad. Our mall added a bunch of stores a few years ago and no one ever rented them. Chick-fil-A closed and no one has stayed there more than 6 months since. Same with the old Hardee's. Aeropostale closed, PacSun and a bunch of other places.
The mall in our town is slowly dying. They are doing a full renovation but it seems a bit wasteful to me. My grandma worries about the day JCPenney will close.
@@SouthernASMRSounds you are correct I live about an hour away and saw it all over my news feed on facebook scary stuff hanes mall has been very dangerous lately
Malls are a thing of the past. Amazon and eBay murdered them specifically. Why would I go all the way away from my house, when I can click a button and order my inflatable woman that way lmao haha haha. J/K

You get a good case of Ebola had me laughing way too hard! 😂😂❤
Me too omg! 😂
I miss going to the mall! That was something my mom and I did all the time. It is sad that their dying. So many memories at the mall.
I’ve never heard of “mall walkers” before so I looked it up to see if it is a thing in the US and apparently it is. Interesting!
Yeap! Just a bunch of old people waking up at the crack of dawn to walk around a mall lmao

A lot of stores in our mall have been closing also. It's quite sad. Thank you for sharing Mary 💟
Haven't been there in almost twenty years. I have almost no recollection of it other than the movie theater.

Dan always says the last stores left standing at dying malls are always either a GNC vitamin store or a Bath and Body Works. He's not wrong! 😂

Mary, that picture of pottery in a museum that you looked is the NC Pottery Museum in Seagrove.

Thanks for the Dan Bell recommendation, Mary!
I LOVE maurices, Ive been skinny and ive been rather big and ive always been able to shop there!! Love it!!
early 90s at the mall was awesome
You never found Gorilla Pizza!!
Aeropostale did close then Authenic Brands Group (ABG) investment company bought them and they opened back up the stores again
Great walkthrough. We have a dying mall up here. I don't know if amazon is to blame but cool video
I would have loved to have heard that conversation from the two men. That sounds hilarious ✌️😂
I'm in England & the Shopping Centres in my town are the same....empty. So sad to see 😭 so many memories
Yep same here I'm near Leeds and there a lot worse than this tbh..its a shame really 😔
I'm in Wigan & there is about 5 shops left in the one I'm talking about but they are transforming it into a place with loads of food places & bars, so see how that goes 🤣 x
I used to get alot of my zubaz pants at GNC😬👍 (had a mullet too lol)

Your in my home town I watch your videos all the time when I was in high school I use to go to that mall all the time great video besafe
I get really sad when I see so many empty stores. It just means people are out of work, thanks to online shopping.
I’m not familiar with mall walkers. Do people actually go to malls and power walk around them????
Louis82 Yes 😂 it’s a common thing especially with the older community I think
Yes! I work in a mall (luckily it's not dying yet 🤣). They open the doors at 6am and the old people come flooding in to power walk!
Louis82 yup when it’s too cold outside and you can’t afford a gym that’s what you do lol. Mostly older people.
I love the video I'm going to have to look at your channel just to see if you have anything else about Asheboro 3C woodworking
Sorry, I don't. :(
What's your theory on why malls are dying? It's so interesting to me.
Eli Ogburn unfortunately malls (and retail in general) are dying because of companies like Amazon. People are buying goods online at lower prices without having to step outside. It’s much more convenient but it is sad.
Please take us to that bridge!
I would have neeever thought I’d see a mall as bad as the one in my hometown (Rocky Mount, NC) whew 😪
Oops never mind mine is worse, the arcade has Rocky Mount beat 😂
Four Seasons Mall is always packed when I go there, I went one time early morning on a weekday and it was empty. I went when it first opened for the day.

Thanks for showing us the mall 💕
Aeropostale filed for bankruptcy, ended up restructuring and all or some stores were converted to factory stores!
Hull property group ( the owners of the mall) is now putting carpet down thru the mall and removed the seating pit near belks.
You look very pretty you have a nice mall you're the best 🌼🍡😊
I was watching his channel today! He did a closing down K Mart, and I thought of you. :)
At least they have massage chairs 💁🏻♀️😂
Yesss 💕 perfecting timing!!!
Where do you go Hanes mall. Way better than four seasons mall don’t ya think
Didn't somebody just get shot there? I think I'll pass for now, thanks.
Think you’d be able to walk around Oak Hollow mall?
They shut down years ago. The building is owned by High Point University.
With Amazon and eBay the malls are sadly dying off.
That mall is remodeled now
The mall in our town is slowly dying. They are doing a full renovation but it seems a bit wasteful to me. My grandma worries about the day JCPenney will close.
Lol I was Clifford the big red dog for our winter carnival few years back!!🔥💜
This looks just like Inlet Square Mall in Murrells Inlet, SC.
Gorilla pizza is in the wing that the movie theater is in...there is Star nails then Gorilla pizza is on the same side
Looks like mainly clothing stores
Anyone who knows Randolph Mall knows it died with the Peanut Gallery 💀 R.I.P
I miss the 80's and 90's Randolph mall was much better then. Nothing in that mall anymore
Please do a hanes mall walk through also
Didn't somebody just get shot there?

I’m sorry but Jehovah’s witnesses don’t believe in heaven or hell after death. So that little pamphlet was not from Jehovah’s Witnesses.
It’s Aeropostale ;-;
Do NOT visit asheboro NC for any reason, no matter what is there. It is a place of constitutional violations and all sorts of civil rights disgrace.
