i really wish we had REAL history like this. best we can muster is 400 years of heavy construction, whereas these guys are finding housing upwards of 1500 years old. our natives were so mobile, they never really left much of a trace outside of the flint sort of stuff

You do a wonderful job of incorporating local people into your story-telling archeology. I especially admire your team for utilizing the children. What a great way of educating them about history.
Am I the only one who gets a bit of pleasure every time the show goes to commercial or a “we’ll find out tomorrow” and then immediately cuts to the next section? 😏
I went to Burford Grammar school & took my GCSE's there in 1969. My friends & i quite often used to walk down into the town during lunch break to the bakery for something delectable if we'd saved our pocket money. Then the hard slog back up the hill ! The town was always beautiful come winter or summer, the history of the place never failed to impress & interest me. The stone work, the oak beams, the atmosphere. Thank you Time Team for taking me back there.
It's great to see the youngsters brought in to help dig; it makes history come alive for them, and they learn that history is more than names, dates, and battles.

Tony is the largest idiot I have ever seen in my life and he is completely useless and pointless to the show... he claims he has been in archeology for 16yrs but just judging from what he says and does and the way he continuously acts in every episode there is no way in hell that is true

Yes!! I was also going to say how very lovely that was. The children had a hands on introduction to archeology and history of their area in their very own backyards. Marvelous! That will stay with them. I loved that.
Unfortunately it is not going to happen with the original cast. Robin Bush died in 2010 and some less frequent participants like Beric Morley have also died. The remaining regular cast now range in age from their mid fifties to into their eighties. You might convince a few of them to participate in a remake but many won't have the energy or stamina for the original show pacing (where you would see Tony sprinting from trench to trench).

Mick looks like he lost a bit of Weight. Sad to see a Man like him full of knowledge pass away, and he was an Atheist as well. I dont think he had any kids, and yet he seemed good with them. I only recently seen Mick through Time Team, thanks Quarantine for introducing me, I really liked Mick, and I do like Sir Tony, Phil, Stewart, Carenza, and the Time Team. I wish PBS would Show these Episodes at night around 7 or 8.

The different cultures [Iron Age, Roman, Saxon, Medieval] made their pottery in different ways, so the products looked different in color, composition, feel, etc. A trained person can tell by looking at a shard approximately when the pot was made.
In addition to what Greg B said, not only did pottery change quite a bit over time even within any given culture) , but because pottery got used so much( and breaks a lot) it generates lots of trash pretty regularly. Plus, a lot of times even if you have a very small sherd you can infer what the rest of the vessel looked like depending on where in the profile it fits.
