I remember when this album came out, and the tour (although I didn't get to go see it myself). The biggest question on alt.rock-n-roll.metal.death was: could they actually play the album live? The reports came back that they could. It was incredible. That's how groundbreaking this album was for death metal when it came out. So yea all the more ignorant types really couldn't handle it. This is a time when I had friends who said Amorphis was gay, and we are talking about The Karelian Isthmus..
@@ras124 lame comment, cynic probably wasn't accepted by all death metal fans at the time and they were and still are something different from everyone else. He wasnt trying to be a hipster
well i can understand way back in 94, it was a bit hard for Cynic to gain recognition to those metalheads . Cynic's music already evolved and it was different and mroe intellectual than the others . . This is the day and age where their music is more understood...
Well, I’m here 12 years into the future just to say nobody has matched this album, particularly this song, even now. And it still goes over many heads.
not all of the solos on focus were that memorable. but both the first and last solos are the best. masvidal's majestic, otherwordly note choice propels Veil of Maya's solo spiralling upwards. Jason's majestic solo at the end of How Could I brings the whole experience to a close.
He is, and a wonderful human being, last month we jammed on an acoustic (Jason) and tin whistle (me) to the last tune Reinert wrote, and it brought tears to my eyes. And Jason made my shitty 50$ acoustic sound like a proper instrument too.
This is also my favourite Focus 1993 Album, still waiting something ever since from them. At least they also have made my favourite album ever with Chuck RIP 13.12.2001 (Human, 8-10-1991).
i love this show, a great one with Dana, i'd love to watch the dynamo open air show but few (the band i think) have it. Maybe later on the long awaited "focused" dvd?
I can't really say that cause there is too much commercial crap filled these days I mean back then prog was more recognized prog and metal.... But lets hope Cynic gets a huge following now.
It's been handpainted by Jim O'Connor in 1990, you'll probably see a Steiny with that colour ever again :D Too bad though, it's one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen...
@CtrlRm both play leads Paul and Jason some songs have them both soloing like this one some songs have Paul or Jason soloing but yes Jason Goble did play on Focus indeed.
I think Cynic's getting a huge following . . Having toured North America and Germany, and other places... And getting positive responses... Yeah I think they're on the move. I just hope they won't go up too much. It depends...
I like those drummers too but you shouldn't be so stupid to realise that those professional guys you mentioned are brilliant because they know how to play inside a song too. Richard Christy, in my opinion, treats every song like a drum solo. That makes him a show off, not a good drummer in my book. Reinert and Hoglan are in the same league as Chambers, Donati as you mentioned because they play for the song.
the ending solo is the best solo ever written in my opinion
i agree, Jason Gobel´s solo....
And after those many years... Still, no one on RUclips could play it correctly.
Its great but Kali by TOOH gets my vote
Cynic = the most important progressive death metal band ever
Dana Cosley's vocals are so fucking awesome!! I wanna be like her D:

Wow your so cool/hipster

Did you just wake up from a 7 year slumber?
@@ras124 no im 18 and you're being told you dumb boomer
Man the outro solo was perfect.
word. focus is probably the most underappreciated album as well.
Are you insane?

solo from this song is the best solo in all death metal scene
There's only one Jason Gobel, best live version of that whole end solo section.

Started to watch this today right after learning that Sein and Sean passed away last year. RIP.
Amazing gig... my first concert in America.. remember being sad that this was the last song of their set.. everything went too fast by
Lucky you!

And being called "gay" by one or more members of the crowd too... GOD what I would give to beat the ever loving shit out of those cunts...
Cynic= another dimension, wow i want tio see this guys, amazing¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ Dream Theater and Cynic on tour yeahhh
thanks from Cynic fan in Canada!
@loumaTROM not only death, just one of the best solos out there!!
i love this show, a great one with Dana, i'd love to watch the dynamo open air show but few (the band i think) have it. Maybe later on the long awaited "focused" dvd?
man... these guys are so fucking incredible!

Jason's got headbanging to rival Corpsegrinders!
@yeatsg Exactly man so intricate and so epic!!
never knew the growler was a female, sounds fucking amazing
Me neither, altough i loved this album 20 years ago when i first heard it.. :D Nice!
Only for the live shows, Tony Teegarden is the vocalist on the album
ese solo del final!!!! uff gobel es un virtuoso
hermoso, eso es metal
Reinert is fucking mutilating the universe with his sticks.
jason's headspin is so fucking good. \m/
daranji id say go with a parker p-38 sweet guitar and lovely neck , i got one my self its GREAT playing on it is so easy i love it.

The people booing in teh crowd pissed me off, but that was a good gig. Thanks fo uploading.
@rixxxer would be the perfect tour!!!
@Severtized indeed!
*you'll probably never see a Steiny with that colour ever again. I hate forgetting words.
Who’s doing the growls ?
@loumaTROM Its not Death metal...
@immortalsoloist
yeah with guitar parts like that there really is no such thing as a rhythm guitarist
Sean Reinert was, though...and he's miles ahead of Christy.
Richard Christy was never a part of Cynic.
I like those drummers too but you shouldn't be so stupid to realise that those professional guys you mentioned are brilliant because they know how to play inside a song too. Christy is an OVER PLAYER. Reinert and Hoglan are proper drummers.
@indiscipline protozoan
It's typical by your emotional outburst that you wouldn't know what a professional drummer is
