      Unfortunately not, this is the thin end of the biblical profit wedge pharmaceutical companies are about to cash in on. There is no sudden breakthrough, Cancer by its nature should always have been curable but to cover trillions of profit PCs have made from the pandemic this is their “goodwill gesture”. And get ready for the cost per treatment this will be, this has now been held back for so long until the western population is at 1 in 2 cancer sufferers that this will be easily a million dollars per treatment if not more. We live in an easy but evil time.
      And if you want to know why these cancer rates are now 1 in 2…. Then look at DuPont. And while you are looking at them look at where their investors also invested. Would you believe it, Pharma. What an evil hell on earth we live in. Where is your God now?

    This new PD-1 receptor checkpoint immunotherapy depends on matching the patient's tumor type exactly to this particular treatment - PD-1 receptors are programmed death receptors that certain types of cells have that signal the immune system to identify a cell for autophagy or not ...it s a cellular self destruction button ... PD-1 receptor therapy being clinically tested must match these certain types of tumor cells as having a positive mismatch repair-deficient (MMRd) or microsatellite instability (MSI). lab test ...so not everyone will qualify. The theory is that tumor cells mess up the PD-1 receptors and this treatment fixes this mess so the tumor cells are destroyed by autophagy leaving behind the good cells in tact. Good news is that a PD 1 receptor is found in different place in the body ...not just the rectum ... bad news is that the MMRD and MSI test and how to interpret them is a nascent/new tech...u might have to pray these guys doing the tests know what they are doing..... The original Rectal Cancer PD1 receptor checkpoint immunotherapy study was led by a Dr. Andrea Cercek and Dr Luis Diaz Jr of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and their findings was published in The New England Journal of Medicine June 2022...see "PD-1 Blockade in Mismatch Repair Deficient, Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer"

  • @jeffneptune2922
    @jeffneptune2922 2 года назад +8

    This study was probably done on a group of patients with tumor specific genetic mutations targeted by the med and will probably just help a small minority of rectal cancer patients. We should be a little sick of the hyperbole by now. The official government's "War on Cancer" began in 1971. A decade later the first group "biological response modifiers" like interferon and interleukin-2 got a lot of media attention. In the 1990s the angiogenesis inhibitors with their ability to "starve" a tumor were all the rage. The last two decades have seen the rise of checkpoint inhibitors as the new great hope. ALL these novel medications only seem to help a very small minority of patients. The sobering fact is for adult metastatic solid tumors, life expectancy has barely moved in 50+ years.

    Sounds promising, just like so many other cancer breakthroughs. I remain doubtful that it will make it into regular use due to institutional blockages.

    Come back here in five years and see that I was right: This will have close to _zero_ impact on most cancers (e.g. solid, non-mismatch repair deficient, etc.) People need to be more intelligent and not celebrate every one of these soundbites as if it's a miracle. None of them EVER are. Cancer incidence rates have done nothing but INCREASE over the past 50 years, and survival rates are not improving for most cancers.

      I agree, check the mortality rate for cures, but this is how it happens, if it happens, some spreading enthusiasm.

      that's what I was thinking... If it works as well as they said it wouldn't be allowed on the market as it could kill the industry.

      @@bobthrasher8226 like to watch this one though, call them up on it, ask the industry outright.

      Cancer rates are increasing because obesity is increasing, added to unhealthy, sedentary lifestyles. Just as technology advances, so does medicine advance. There is no reason why there can't be cures for cancer and other illnesses etc. And while some cancers are not related to diet and lifestyle, many are. If a person lives on junk food and buckets of sugar, they're creating the perfect environment for cancer to thrive, added to a host of other potential health problems.

      Half right. It's good news for people that have THAT compatibility to this medicine.
      Trials are not done with random people. They still have to have approval and they still need to show results to promote investors. Those 18 people were carefully selected based on the specific type of cancer and unique markers to increase the odds of success. If they chose any random people, half could have easily died from bad reactions to the treatment, and then future funding and approval would go up in smoke.
