It's a bit redundant to say at this point but I just wanted to let you know that since you've dropped the schedule and just made whatever you want at your own pace, all your content has been fantastic and incredibly inspiring.
That joke would've worked except mescaline is natural - not synthetic - It is usually harvested from cacti like peyote and san pedro IIRC. Well, I guess if we were splitting hairs it would be considered SEMI-synthetic... but y'know, just felt like it was *my* turn to be "that guy" for once lol
I imagine half the fun is plugging it in and letting it go crazy, and when that craziness has done its job you move the wires around, turn some knobs and let it do more crazy.
Yep!! This synth is the BEST!!! I have one as well, and though I'm a guitar person, it's one of my fave things EVER! Thanks so much for this video--and the rad tuneage!!
Hey Andrew I know your probably not going to see this but I love your videos. Their can dive deep into music theory and recording but also have comedy and are weird and wacky. Your videos make me happy when I get sad and put a smile on my face. I just wanted to thank you for helping me through rough times and making me laugh. Your awesome
Well.. they probably dont like it, Pink Floyd (minus Waters) has made a couple albums in the 2000s and 2010s so they could've use this if they wanted to... They use better synths and similar sounding equipment already.
I really like the sounds you got out of this thing. The dark industrial tones really seem quite different to a lot of stuff you use, but you still crafted a really sublime song out of them in the end.
Now normally, I appreciate all of your music for the creativity and musicianship, but not all of it is for me. That track at the end though, that's something else. Very, very nice work Andrew.
Great Song Andrew, love your Weird gear segments and as someone mentioned, since you’re not on a schedule, your videos are even better than before!!! Love the one in Berlin, that was great, and to see how you put together Weird Gear - stinger/bug. Was really fun!!!! You are so much fun to watch, love your energy, just have one cup of Java a day!
I am absolutely livid. The lines at 7:25 remind me of a song I used to listen to in middle school, and I’ve been up for 2 hours just trying to find this god forsaken song. Curse you, Andrew, I will never find this song again and I will forever be tormented by it’s tune.
I can't even pinpoint what genre it'd be; ambient pop? Experimental electronic? Techno jazzy... Thingy? But it's good enough for me to not write it off as "just pop" And by good i mean nit so repetitive, simple and samey as a billion othee songs to either make me go to sleep or want me to pull my ears out.
Woah that vocal bass line in the last song is sick. I'm assuming you just sang it and pitch shifted it. It worked really great doubled with the bass guitar. Keep up the good work man!
I love your videos without reservation. I barely ever laugh out loud watching youtube videos and by the end of this video my face hurt from smiling and giggling like a child. If I could subscribe more than once, I woulda just done that. :)
Wow the song you did at the end of this was really good!! It sounded very reminiscent of a modern Radiohead track except (sorry Thom) I enjoyed it quite a bit more.
;~; Sponsor or not, that song still spoke very strong, saw so many colors. Can't even compose a proper comment because I'm still crying. Keep being inspired and making stuff from your heart.
I'm gonna compare the songs at the end of these weird gear episodes to different artists. So last month was Death Grips and this month is Radiohead post Kid A
Andrew would you consider making a track with VCV? its a virtual modular synth, its open source so it would be very intresting to see what you could make using it. cheers and keep up the great work!
Serious question... is it really frustrating to work with an instrument that is so unpredictable and you can't just get right to what you want? Or do you just have to deal with surrendering yourself over to trial and error until something sounds good? The latter is usually difficult for me anyway.
It makes you press record every time, because next time you turn it on it may not behave quite the same. The unpredictability is a strength, and a weakness. Mostly a strength IMHO.
I have been following your channel for a while now mainly for your excellent gear reviews but damn you can compose great music too (and what a singing voice!) Big love for all you do from the antipodes.
It's a bit redundant to say at this point but I just wanted to let you know that since you've dropped the schedule and just made whatever you want at your own pace, all your content has been fantastic and incredibly inspiring.
*OuTbREaK* I wholeheartedly agree.
I concur fully, my good man.

What separates Andrew from other youtubers, "so I read the entire manual ..."
*from other people
RTFM!
Lmao right, I look up tutorials on RUclips and use google combined with just playing around with stuff to learn.
Obviously he didn’t look to far into how to use it. It’s a pretty straightforward groovebox.
@@ellorenzo9389 correct!
Mescaline was Hunter S Thompson's favorite synth as well!
i was wondering if it was named after what the creator was on when he designed it
Mine too! 👍🏻
Its the right word for the sound though. It was somewhere around Barstow...

„What are going to produce today?”
“I don’t know.”
“Because your creativity is lacking?”
“No, because my synth is unpredictable.” 😂

I think he missed the point of this synth by writing a poo song.
This is great for movies
The TB303 sequencer is like this. Very difficult and annoying to enter stuff accurately, but random button mashing creates awsome acid basslines.

the song you made from this device is stunning
Yeah! He should properly release it somewhere, I wanna listen to this all day XD
Andrew that final product is DOPE. What a MELODY!!! Such a great groove in your vocal phrasing during the verses too.
The music community on RUclips is such a small world. It’s like all the music youtubers watch eachother!
Yep!! This synth is the BEST!!! I have one as well, and though I'm a guitar person, it's one of my fave things EVER! Thanks so much for this video--and the rad tuneage!!
daleturner hey, you get the first comment award
Wow! I've never won anything before! It seems my time has come, lol!
If you ever wanted to sell your mescaline plz let me know, thanks!
ok I loved that song at the end holy moly
This is like a sound designer’s wet dream. Bro can I have that when you’re done?

That song has some REALLY cool chords! As a songwrite myself, this inspired me, so thank you for that!

If any of you like the track at 6:01 , you might also like:

Thanks a lot, never heard of these two but checked them out and love it!
Fantastic track at the end!
How did you learn to make such engaging videos? The filming and production is just amazing.
Now normally, I appreciate all of your music for the creativity and musicianship, but not all of it is for me. That track at the end though, that's something else. Very, very nice work Andrew.
This sounds like something from the Transistor soundtrack. In other words, I absolutely love it 😊
Im sure its been said in the comments , but god damn dude that song at the end😍
This is rad!

I love in the middle where Andrews like “it says you build a circuit with these and provides no further instruction”
WEIRD GE...
Epic epic epic epic epic epic. Please only do this series forever and ever. This was an audio treat to be sure. Yes.
Buys a weird unpredictable synth. Then uses it to produce the best song of 2018. Andrew is freakishly talented.
I can't even pinpoint what genre it'd be; ambient pop? Experimental electronic? Techno jazzy... Thingy?
But it's good enough for me to not write it off as "just pop"

I've been waiting for this :D
In a few more episodes I would really love to see you make a track including all the weird gear you accumulated.
Andrew is the best human ever.
Such Will I agree
That song at the end is one of the best I've ever heard from you! Great job.
sounds like if radiohead made funky futuristic pop music. i would kill for an album in this style!
Love my Folktek Mescaline, got one of the last copper models available in the first batch. This demo is the best one I've ever seen. Thanks, Andrew.
WHAT. THIS IS MAGIC!!!! AHHHHH.
Woah that vocal bass line in the last song is sick. I'm assuming you just sang it and pitch shifted it. It worked really great doubled with the bass guitar. Keep up the good work man!
Loving these instruments like the PO series and other circuit board ments!

wow the track you made was AMAZING like seriously the best of Andrew Huang i think

" *W E I R D* "
That song? I. Need. More. Hoooooooly, those chords are just beautiful. The synth gives a perfect feel to the song too.
I know nothing about synths but you make me want to get one
I am addicted to your channel, you are becoming one of my favorite youtubers.
that song at the end is eargasmic on a level unprecedented by man
Now that's truly some *wEIRd GeAR*
The song at end was honestly amazing, i love this series a lot. Keep it up!
That is definitely some weird gear. It give me anxiety just looking at it. Some really awesome sounds coming out of that though!
;~; Sponsor or not, that song still spoke very strong, saw so many colors. Can't even compose a proper comment because I'm still crying.
Keep being inspired and making stuff from your heart.
Andrew always makes these sick accidental prog songs
Most people probably come to this channel for music, but I'm here for that sweet, smooth, creative editing. Amazing, dude.
Song at the end is incredible. Reminds me of Radiohead with a bit more funk and pop.
You consistently impress me with your artistry. Also, loving the weird gear series. I always look forward to your uploads. Keep being awesome 😊
I'm gonna compare the songs at the end of these weird gear episodes to different artists. So last month was Death Grips and this month is Radiohead post Kid A
Top notch editing. Top notch content! Weird gear series quality standard is so high ^^
Dude you are awesome
I freaking LOVE the song at the end. Andrew, you're a total genius.
That last song was amazing!
That intro alone is worth several Oscars.
pretty sure that this was created by a blade runner's replicant :"do robots dream of mescaline synth"? :)
wow this is the best your voice has ever sounded, really enjoy the song. Great video
on the black panel you can build some filters with the resistors and capacitors
I think you can find some info online, it is basic electricity
bastien pabiot or really anything. Fuzz pedal, phasers.

Andrew would you consider making a track with VCV? its a virtual modular synth, its open source so it would be very intresting to see what you could make using it. cheers and keep up the great work!
I hope you're doing well, Andrew! Can't wait to see the progress on your new studio!
The greatest one man band. Hands down.
your singing has increased so much over the years, can you make a video about your vocal routines or tips and tricks for singing?
Serious question... is it really frustrating to work with an instrument that is so unpredictable and you can't just get right to what you want? Or do you just have to deal with surrendering yourself over to trial and error until something sounds good? The latter is usually difficult for me anyway.

this thing is absolutely crazy !!!!
Some of the best editing for that introduction, wow.

*_Awesome_*
here in 2021 - i read an interview with the cyberpunk composers saying that they used this all over the sound track. super cool
This shirt. I need it! Anyone knows where to get it? (The colored creamy liquid one ofc)
The intro looks like a product reveal! Andrew your cinematography is amazing!
3:10 Ah yes, the 'instant Silent Hill' effect xD also 6:50 really sounded like you sampled Michael Rosen.
The editing on this video was hilarious. Well done!
The song at the end reminded me of the last Radiohead album

It's pretty much a Dream Pop song.
I love this series so much. Thanks for another awesome video!

those drums are so sick
Where's Andrew? I visited his channel to check out if I missed his new videos but he hadn't uploaded for two weeks. Hope he's ok!
That song at the end was so sick I actually gasped when you did the hard cut to your outro cuz I was grooving so hard
What's the chord on "feel the words falling"??? Please!!!!!!
