      @romantictangle Definitely. I completed one of a cuckoo clock. It was really nice to stitch. Bought another 2. One of a rabbit and little owls. Can't wait to do them once I've completed my other hundred kits haha

    I moved to another video, haven’t searched this subject before on RUclips. I noticed I was still thinking of your, my first cross-stitch video. I have come back to tell you I really enjoyed your video. The pace, the volume, the amount of information was like Goldilocks, “just right.”

    I’ve watched this video twice and both times it’s helped me. I put down my cross stitching about 12 years ago and just a couple months ago picked it back up. The gridding is a life saver for me. If I do cross country I get lost easily, so I do grid square by grid square, sometimes I may park one thread 😂 but any more than that I get confused...🙄 It’s good to be stitching again! Thank you for this video, your work is amazing.

      I'm glad I could help. Unless you're doing a border that needs to match up at the corners or something with straight edges, a misplaced stitch or two usually isn't the end of the world.

    I have to admit in some trees or grass or a few other places when I have lost track I fill in a similar color and move on,,,, I can live with those kinds of adjustments,,,,,, I am planning a hard for this year/ I am going to grid for sure,,,,

    Absolutely agree w stitching only on gridded fabric. At 71, I need to do whatever is comfortable for my eyes. I absolutely use the loop method. I use a copy enlarged paper pattern to mark symbols in a confetti heavy pattern so I can stitch a path to cut down on the 1-stitch left overs after I do the majority of one symbol, if that makes sense.
    I also use the washable blue pen to number my gridded squares to match my pattern.

    I think keeping my backs neat would take all the fun out of cross stitching. I have enough problems trying not to lose count and trying to keep my stitches neat on the front! I think the people with neat backs were taught by a Grandmother or somebody close the them that it is very important to keep your back perfect. So, they think they are a terrible stitcher if they have a messy back. Kind of sad. But its just MY theory. What do we say? Happy Stitching no matter what kind of stitcher we are. :)

    • @hunnqy3102
      @hunnqy3102 4 года назад

      Yes it's just this misconception of a really simple hobby. In the past people believed that it needs to be perfect but on such complicated projects it's basically impossible. If a project takes 1 month irs gonna take double that for the back to be clean

    The only way I can get through confetti is by parking because I work in 10X10 grids. Otherwise I would be starting and stopping too many times. Carolyn Mazzeo video #8 taught me how to cross stitch. I so admire cross country stitching. I would get lost!

    I do like parking in the diagonal, however I have fudged a color when there is only one stitch of a color that is similar in an area. I rarely care about my backs either. Modern charts are conversions of a painting/image by a computer and I doubt the person doing the conversion goes back and tweaks these one-offs to make the chart easier to do. Doing some fudging makes the finished piece more "human" :)

    I’m the same way with bushes. I’m working on Psalm 23 and at Ted bottom there are lots and lots of bushes with a couple three white sheep. If there’s a wrong ‘stitch’ in the bushes-go find it. Hahaha. Also, I love your hedgehog piece! It’s beautiful. Can I buy your pattern from you? Keep stitching. Looks lovely.

    • @romantictangle

      I don't have that pattern anymore. By the time I was done with the project, it was in tatters from folding and refolding. It looks like the kit is still readily available and not too expensive.

    I grid as well. I start usually in the top left. Pick the most used color in the square of 100 continuing till I,m out of that thread. I don,t continue on with that same color. I always go back to the next used color in that first block...my thinking is aiming to get the first block completed. You will look down your row of blocks and you have only worked Your threads unti you ran out. When you go to your second block of a hundred you may only have a few new thread to add and go until the thread is out and like what you did park it on the front of your work on the side. I ran into the same problem and it took me longer to fill in the missing squares, frustrating. I will not try to stitch one color for an entire page it leaves you frustrated and you could of had another page finished. Hope I made sense. My back is like yours and I’m alright with that my pieces are framed professionally and they look beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

    • @romantictangle
      @romantictangle  4 года назад

      Doing a whole page in one color would make me a nervous wreck. I figure that if I tackle it one square of a hundred at a time I'll see if something goes wrong. Usually I go with the most distinctive color or symbol on the chart....whatever will best help me keep track of what I'm stitching.

    I grid for everything but tiny pieces, I don't worry about my backs either. I also don't keep count of how many stitches I've done or the hours worked on a project. To me it's like punching a time clock, I'm stitching to enjoy not work

    • @romantictangle
      @romantictangle  3 года назад

      For the past couple of years, I've been keeping loose track of how many hours I stitch on a project. It gives me a realistic idea of how long things might take and how much stitching time I've got in a month or week. So far, it doesn't feel like a chore -- probably because I don't worry about being too accurate with it.

      I use the same cotton threads as I use for quilting on my sewing machine, mostly because I already own it and have run into very few problems. You do have to be careful not to pierce the basting threads with your needle, but even if you do it isn't that big a crisis.

  • @scrapingrama1

    I grid everything now cause I can’t count. My brain quit working. So much easier. Sometimes I do my own thing like cat faces where I couldn’t figure out the direction of stitches like eyes etc.

    Just found this video. I like Riolis kits as well. I don't know whether this applies to all of their kits, but I needed to get used to having to cut the thread for stitching as they don't come in skeins. (Does that make any sense?)
    I also have the hedgehog kit. I bought it, because it's sooo cute. Haven't started it yet.
    You have mentioned Amy's Stephen King adaptation. Is she a flosstuber as well?
    Anyway, happy stitching.

    Griding is a sanity check. What do you use?
    Pattern keeper helps with the orphan stitches but also saves paper. I tried the programs but they didn't work for me.

    • @romantictangle
      @romantictangle  3 года назад

      I just use quilting cotton from my sewing machine and try not to stitch through it. Sometimes a bit gets buried under the full coverage, but if I can't see it I don't think it matters.

  • @crochetcorner3218

    These are beautiful. Do you cross stitch from top to bottom or bottom up? I am just starting this again and don't really have a system in place or order of how to begin.

    • @romantictangle
      @romantictangle  2 года назад +1

      I pick a corner and work out from there. Usually the decision is based by what looks most fun to stitch at the moment I'm starting.

    I can see all my mistakes but no-one else can so I no longer get fixated on them☺️ you can get away with a lot in cross stitch

    • @romantictangle
      @romantictangle  2 года назад

      You really can get away with a lot of mistakes in full coverage pieces, can't you? I wind up arguing with myself whether it's worth it to thread a new needle just to get that one last stitch in the right color instead of just stitching it with a nearly identical shade.

    Very frustrating video because you assume everyone understands your terminology! You never explained anything! What is the definition of confetti stitching ? What is gridding, and how do you do it? Doesn’t it ruin the front of your fabric? What is parking? Some of us are newer to complicated patterns ....
