    I'm about five years late to the party on this one, but thank you for putting this out there. A lot was stuff that I had already picked up over the years or "bad" habits that work for me, but there were some very interesting bits in here that I'm going to experiment with on my next projects. This comment probably belongs on Part 2, but I forgot to thumbs-up this part, so it's as good a place as any (and a subtle hint that Part 2 is worth the watch).

      Thanks for watching. I have changed how I organize and stitch my large pieces over the years but half the fun of stitching is organizing and finding a style that works best for you.

      Well I don't park anymore really when stitching full coverage. I went back to cross country stitching 1 colour at a time, page by page. So instead of needing all my colours for a project I only need a few colours at a time. Now I only kit up one full coverage that I'm focusing on and all the others I just use floss from a master set.

    This is the most informative cross stitch video I have ever seen!!! Pam, I just discovered you today and I was blown away because of all the awesome information you gave. I haven't cross stitch in quite a while and had forgotten certain terminology and didn't know what the loop method was, but after having seen your video, now I know everything I need to know. I also loved part 2. I will view both videos (and all your other ones) in a little while when I make fresh coffee and chill just like you did! Again, loved all the information and especially that you did not rambled on, you cut to the chase and gave pertinent, much needed information. AWESOME! Thank you for uploading your video. Ciao!

    Pam!! I LOVED this video. Thank you, thank you, and thank you for showing the back with the difference between parking and cross country! I'm a die hard cross countrier, who am now getting into full coverage pieces. I am feeling so validated now! Some people make parking look like so much fun, because they are good at it and enjoy stitching that way. I just couldn't get myself into it and if I'm not enjoying stitching, then I might as well just go and read a book.Haha! But! I had worried about the back when cross country-ing. No more worrying...I've seen the "promised land" and am free to be who I am as a stitcher! Thank you! (On to part two, I haven't even watched yet!)

      +Renee C Thanks for watching Renee. I am a true believer in stitching in a way that is comfortable for you. If it's not enjoyable you won't stick with it. I cross country some and I park some. Just depends on the piece I'm working on. Happy Stitching!

    great info Pam! I am doing my HAED like you, no gridding by color cross country per page. Mine is one of the mermaid letters that has some design outside of full coverage areas so I am using 18ct hand dyed aida 2 over 1. Aida is my fabric comfort zone and you are right that you should enjoy it. Also some advice to anyone reading, if anyone turns your work over to judge your back, you have my permission to tell them to piss off.

    So glad I found this video. Finally, at 34:53 I found someone that stitches the same way I do. I stitch one color for a few squares in columns from left to right. I recently watched video after video for the parking method as I haven't tried it yet but the thought of re-threading my needle every few stitches kept me from trying it so far. I wonder if some people just leave needles on all those threads.

  • @katiestitch60
    @katiestitch60 7 лет назад +2

    Great video. We organize our thread about the same way. I use Darice floss bags with index cards. I write my project(s) on the cards and use only 1 skein of floss at a time for all my projects. Pick from floss stash as I need more. I also divide my working strand (in the front of the index card) from my excess strands (in the back of my index card). However, I cut my skein up into 8 equal parts before putting them in the bag. For me, it saves time. I hate stopping and starting to cut strands of floss. That's just me. :)

    I’m only working in continental tent stitch and work colour by colour. I’ve been doing this for the past 30 years because it’s so much faster. I do it per page as well and I don’t trail more than 5/6 squares. My back is the same as the front because of this method, which I like. I love your work, you’re doing some complicated diagrams there, really nice.

    didnt realize this was new so part 2 is yet to come I guess. Sadly laying tool got cut off !! love love love the discussion of fabric types, stitch content on each and wish there was more discussion of different fabrics and "feel". I didnt know what Lugana or Jobelyn was till I ordered samples. Sadly samples are too small to test " stitch counts as theyre barely 1" in size and not labeled with fabric count. HAED has samples so gonna have to try ordering theirs! This has really slowed me down starting anything as I am used to full kits.

    Hi Pam - Thanks for your video. I do a kind of half cross country, half parking method when doing my full coverage. I will pick on color and work that color through a whole column on a page (not by blocks). So, I guess it is kinda like 10x100. I find this helps with speed as I don't have to change colors so much. But also, I don't have to count as much as when I tried cross country across the whole page. I do try to feather my stitches a bit if the color goes a bit over into the next column. Anyway, I find it is the best of both worlds. Just my two cents.

    I, too, do not grid. I’m self-taught 40 yrs ago so back then there were no classes to be taught, no computers thus no RUclips, etc.
    I ,also, taught many people the art of cross stitching.
    Currently, I’m working on a Wilderness Afghan, 7 rows by 7 column which are approx 60x50 stitches. I started 10 yrs ago. Took some time off to get cancer and get better. Although serious, you can giggle as to how I said it. Almost done with it. Anyway, one question, what is country cross stitching? (Stitching in the country)
    Keep up your good work. Love your stitching.

    I love the idea of using snack baggies. Do you have multiple of the same colors for ones that are needed in multiple projects? I tried parking and it just drives me bonkers. lol On my full coverage I usually try to just start with the ones that have the most coverage and do those colors completely first then move onto the confetti party.

    Hi Pam love your video,s and all your helpful tips have you got a tutorial on tent stitch please I am getting ready to start Spirit of Winter, and I would like to try tent stitch I am using 20 ct Aida, and I thought I would try 2 over 1 I was very interested when I was reading about a lady who only tent stitches for all her WIPS but she only goes the one way so if she stitches lets say right to left that's the way she stitches on every row her stitching is lovely and I was just wondering what you thought about tenting like this as I thought you had to go back the opposite way, hope you can understand me, my name is Diane and I live in the UK. I wish I could park but seem to get so confused. I need to really get to grips with it, I love the way you use one colour at a time I would be terrified of making a mistake with my counting. I could,nt stitch diagonally, like you I can,t get my head around it. I am definetly going to store my flosses in bags like you suggested. Many Thanks.

    Hi Pam! I love your tutorials! Thank you so much for your great advise and tios. I'm working on a big project right now, but I keep looking at it and not finding it satisfactory. How do you maintain an even tension? one part of my work looks great and the other parts look "lined" and "bumpy". I very much would like to start over again on a fresh canvas, but I can't guarantee better work. I wonder if any of the other stitchers have felt that way early in their experience?

    • @ritavioleau4497
      @ritavioleau4497 7 лет назад

      Thanks so much Pam!

    • @PamsCraftyCorner
      @PamsCraftyCorner  7 лет назад +1

      +Rita Violeau Yes tension can be a little hard to keep consistent when you are a newer stitcher. Most people have a tendency to pull their threads too tight which adds to the bumpiness because it is not only distorting the stitch but the fabric as well. If you are a 2 handed stitcher you may find a laying tool could help or railroading your stitches. You only need to pull the thread enough that it's completely through the fabric and laying even. It'll take some practice but you'll get there.

    The only issue keeping threads in bags is the thread needs air and humidity to keep it right. All fabrics need air, so if you set your work aside for a long time the thread can break down. Just a thought.

    Hi, I’m doing a full coverage, my fabric is on a frame so I don’t get to the back of it that much.
    When I’m sewing my thread is getting knotted and I’m not noticing at the time and then it gets matted..
    What can I do to stop it? Any ideas would be good ty

      There's a couple tips to try. Twirl your needle or let it hang every so often to let you floss unwind. When pulling your needle up with one hand let the floss slide through the fingers of your opposite hand on the back so you can immediately feel any tangles. And some people don't turn their needle that way the floss gets less twisted. So go down with the tip of the needle and push back up leading with the eye of the needle instead of the tip. Some people also find thread conditioner helps but personally I don't like using it.

      The large metal rings are hinged so they open and close. You can usually find them in the stationary area. Technically they're binder rings or loose-leaf rings.

      +Deanna Gerein I get neck pain sometimes but it's caused by migraine not stitching. When that happens I find a heated beanie bag wrapped around my neck good. I'll sit in my stitchy spot and adjust my stand so I can sit back in my chair instead of leaning forward at all.

    I have a question. I bought a full size pattern from Etsy. It is 24pages.( this is my first full size). The pattern printed out backwards, good thing I laid it out before I started. It took three of us to figure this out. Do yours copies come out like this. I really want to make this. But the pages are making me crazy. Do they all print out like that.

    • @PamsCraftyCorner
      @PamsCraftyCorner  4 года назад

      No, it just depends on the designer. My Heaven & Earth ones print so that page 1 is the top left corner of your chart. My pic2pat ones print backwards. I just put them in the correct order and re-number the pages.

    Pam I have a Crosstitch that was given to me by a friend and a cloth that came with it really tiny holes but I can do pretty good on a 14 count I can swap them around and used to 14 count then to use what they sent me because it is like a really small holes because I wasn't going to going to do it because I cannot use the cloth that came with it the holes are just too teeny weenie for me so I can swap that for a 14 count

    • @PamsCraftyCorner
      @PamsCraftyCorner  5 лет назад +1

      You can certainly swap out the fabric for 14 count aida but you will need to make sure you cut your 14 count aida the right dimension for your chart. As 14 count will be a lot larger then the original cloth the completed image will also be considerably larger. Hope that makes sense.
