i have just listened to a 17 year old sing with so much passion that way the best i have tears on my cheek so much emotion you can see it in his performance its a shame to think of him dead at such a young age if he had lived passes his 30s we would now know him all over the world . thank you for posting it and thank you jan for singing it may you rest in peace God must have need you for his choir
He was 17 here. T Korberg and J Groban both have training, JW never did. He was 17 here, and performing in front of an audience/on TV for the first time. Check out the other version from 2004 to get a better picture of what he could do vocally.
this brings out the tears, the smile and the goosebumps.. You cant describe Jan with words, he was and still are a wonderful and fantastic singer :) May you rest in peace, and you will always be remembered in our family.. Hvil i fred, Jan Werner..
He taught himself :) He once heard a TV personality say that Barbra Streisand was the best singer in the world, and he thought to himself, "So if I can get as good as her, I can be the best in the world too..." So he put on his Barbra tunes on full volume, lay on his back and tried to outsing her. In my humble opinion, he went past Barbra years ago...
absolutely fantastic... I only just found out today that Jan Werner had died.. I had loved him since Eurovision 1994, but didn't know he had passed away... I have felt sad all day... He certainly left us with a beautiful legacy... RIP
He was 17 years old in this clip, and he never took any singing lessons!?!? I mean, WOW! Did he learn this by himself, or were his parents classical singers and taught him? Anyway, I didn't realize how amazing a vocalist he actually was until recently... Too bad he never got famous internationally, he certainly deserved that. Jan forever
I'm talking about that *too*, no doubt about it. The power, range, technique is a big part of a person's voice. The emotion is always important as well, but *my* personal choice between Jan Werner and Korberg will always be Jan Werner - because he has all of the above.
brilliant, intoxicating and one of the most extraodinary performances i've ever listened to. So sad that he passed away so soon, like a shooting star :(
OK, once and for all - the big "Who's best, Jan Werner or Tommy Korberg" question. First of all, there's a big difference here. Jan Werner was 17 when he did this version, Korberg was almost 40 when he first did the recording in 1984 and in the West End in 1986. This video and profile are here as a tribute to Jan Werner. So, I'm not interested in more "he's nothing compared to Korberg" comments. If you want to say something about Korberg, find one of his videos and say your praise there.
Thumbs down dude. English was not his first language and he was only 17. Jan Werner's voice was astounding. He is on par with Josh Groban, Freddy Mercury, Tommy, they are all wonderful singers in their own way. Really, with such a big difference in age you can't compare him with Tommy. But if I had to compare them when Jan was older, Jan is overall a superior vocalist to Tommy. Just my two cents.
haha... I'm sorry. What a totally shitty interpretation, imo mind you. And DON'T say he's better than tommy körberg. That's opinion, but I'll tell you something that isn't - he's about ten times more nasal and uneven throughout his voice than Körberg ever was or will be.
Pappa
Nobody sings with the passion and notes like this man did...thank God I have found him through RUclips- love in the USA
There is something soooo touching in Jan Werner's voice that I feel breathless.....

Never had chills actually persist for minutes!! Unbelievable!!

constantly leaves me breathless.
every time I see this I get chills....rarely do you see as much passion as this boy puts into it...does he have others?
Chills...just stunning...the voice, the passion the interp of the song.
It's not a song- It's an art piece with Jan!
Absolutely brilliant !!!! Jan u r the best !!!!
Simply perfect voice...What a loss for music.. RIP jan
Be sure, Jan Werner sparkle up there among the greatest singers and we who loved him will always remember his great talent!
best version i have ever heard. amazing is the only word that can fit it. gorgeuous. yep found another one
He taught himself :)

En mektig stemme..
Mektig sanger...
RIP
I love this song so much.. Sooooo much.. Jan Werner is amazing! RIP Mr. Werner
absolutely fantastic... I only just found out today that Jan Werner had died.. I had loved him since Eurovision 1994, but didn't know he had passed away... I have felt sad all day... He certainly left us with a beautiful legacy... RIP
A Norwegian singer called Jan Werner, who sadly passed away in 2006. This was the performance that won him fame back in 1994.
fantastic!!!
Så kjempe artig å se dette. Hadde ikke sett denne før. Finner altid noe, og takk for at du la ut videoen :o)
Oh God, What a loss to us all.
Worth keeping in mind: Jan Werner is no longer amongst us. Have some f-ing respect for those who care.

...fantastisk...
Bedre enn Tommy Kørberg! Excellent!!
Taken far too young, but showed his talent in abundance. A huge loss to the people of Norway, but an ambassador forever. From an Irish fan
I'm talking about that *too*, no doubt about it. The power, range, technique is a big part of a person's voice. The emotion is always important as well, but *my* personal choice between Jan Werner and Korberg will always be Jan Werner - because he has all of the above.
I love this number....and who is this singer- he's just terrific......stunning performance.
woah woah woah.
How powerful!
Some differnt sounds in some spots but man. Gave me chills.
brilliant, intoxicating and one of the most extraodinary performances i've ever listened to. So sad that he passed away so soon, like a shooting star :(
Just epic.
Amen.
@919191x I mean what I said: With a voice like this at 17, it's hardly surprising he went on to having an outstanding voice as an adult.
OK, once and for all - the big "Who's best, Jan Werner or Tommy Korberg" question.

Exactly. With a voice like that at 17, it's hardly shocking that he had the voice he had later on. Sigh.
On iTunes you can get the version from "Music of the night"
Does the word SEVENTEEN mean anything to you?
Tommy was nearly 40 when he first did Chess. Age actually DOES make a slight difference.
Many of you may not know that Jan Werner and Tommy Korberg did a show together in 2003.
It's maybe to much vibrato, but that was Jan Werners way to perform...
Nothing can come close to that!!
Bare hyggelig :)
Utrolig!
Just one thing RememberJan, Tommy Körberg have never had any training.. he is amazing, and so is this guy!
Please people...just enjoy the music, stop making comparation. I'm sick of it. I wish there is no space for making comments......
i tried to find this song but it was impossible, someone can tell me how i get it? thank you!!
WE MISS YOU JAN...
For en stemme!!!
Utrolig bra.
Frysninger gjennom hele sangen, men spesielt fra 3:51-3:56
This is E-major one whole note above the original key D-major

He never had any, either before or after.
He was good here, but he got only better after this!
What happened that he died so young? What a talent......screw the american idol crap- listen tho this voice!
kongen!
The reason has been stated to be heart failure.
He was SEVENTEEN you dud.
Beautiful voice. But I bet he is not fluent in English because he fumbled some of the words. Still great!
Fluent in english? So you're telling me that a singer from a Norway has a slight accent? No way man, no way.
Eat my shorts:D He´s the best!
Heart failure.
And I agree. Screw American Idol.
haha... I'm sorry. What a totally shitty interpretation, imo mind you.
And DON'T say he's better than tommy körberg. That's opinion, but I'll tell you something that isn't - he's about ten times more nasal and uneven throughout his voice than Körberg ever was or will be.
hmm, u cant measure this guy whit T Korberg and J Groban.
He sings good, but not so good!
