There is a big dark side for international GPs in Australia as well. From getting bullied by their supervisor to high load of job and low income. The Australian government doesn't care about it as they are not Australian citizens. The funny thing is that most of the facilities that international GPs prescribe for their patients are not available for themselves as they are on temporary visas, including Medicare. My wife is getting abused every day by her supervisor and we have no place to even complain about it. Modern slavery.

In Australia, International Medical Graduates (IMGs) subject to the 10-year moratorium typically need to work in a designated rural or regional area for a certain period to fulfill their visa conditions.
However, specific pathways and requirements can vary based on individual circumstances, the type of visa, and changes in regulations. Consult the latest guidelines from the Australian Medical Council (AMC) for the most accurate and current information.

@EmergencyFocus Hi Dr and thanks for informative video.
Would you please tell me how to get help from someone about my wife who is getting abused by her supervisor and high load of patients with fix low salary. We have contacted AHPRA and HCCC but both of them say this is not our job to take these complaints.
For almost 1.5 year my wife has worked really hard in a rural area with minimum salary and now she get upset and depressed as not only making enough money to pay for her living expenses but she also doesn't have any savings to get into FSP program.

So many inaccuracies in this video. Particularly the GP income. The figures and inferences are incorrect. I guess that this is because the writer does not work within Australian general practice.

      Then what's the actual figures?

      1. Simple care. General practice provides complex care. It’s one of the hardest specialties.
      2. The writer doesn’t quite explain Medicare and rebates correctly but I’ll let it go.
      3. Very few practices would offer a fee of 25-30% as a service fee. They’d not be viable in the long term or would force doctors to provide rapid throughput. Average is more like 30-40%.
      4. Tax advice is totally incorrect. Google Personal Services Income.
      5. Income is not related to the number of patents seen but rather the type of service provided.
      6. There are very few Medicare item rates that are different for rural areas.
      7. The income he quotes is confused. Before tax you’d expect to earn $400000 to $700000.
I only listened to the income chapter but with so many inaccuracies I’d expect the rest to be the same.
Main problem he doesn’t mention is this is for an experienced Australian GP. It would take 2 or more years to get to this billing level provided you are in a supportive practice.
If a practice churns patients through rapidly then assume you will get no support.
