Everytime i heard this theme it always brings me back to my childhood playing this game especially kof 98 I even got it on my Playlist when am going to the gym to work out because of the energy it makes you want to get stronger

Seriously, SNK titles (not just KoF) are always top notch with their music, even when they hand it over to other composers or take a different direction like with the Maximum Impact Games, Wild Ambition, etc it all sounds really good The fact that they still make great music after all these years is remarkable, considering how other fighting games OSTs are changing with every entry, but SNK has had consistency
"Second Joker" deserved a spot, so did "Purity Soldier", but number 1 should have been "Rythmic Hallucination". Nothing screams epic more than that, since you are facing the "Heavenly Kings", one of the most, if not the most epic battle in all KOF! And this theme was just perfect! But, I forgive you only because you placed "Esaka?" In number 1.
I love Esaka?, but I've got a real soft spot for Iori's Cool Jam from 97 as well. It's the first time I'd ever heard that style of upbeat jazz used for a fighting game. It'll always be my favorite from KOF.
I'm not that fan of Cool Jam, even it's still a great theme, but i think Sadistic Eyes deserves more love, after Arashi no Saxophone 2, Sadistic Eyes is my personal favorite theme of Iori. I have a real soft spot for Kyo's Esaka Forever from 97 as well, still thinks that it's his definitive theme.

Esaka is the perennial KOF theme. I very much expected it to be #1. I like your list(s), both of them were fair and well explained. That said, I would've liked to see Terry's team theme from 96, I liked that version of Big Shot, which you can only get in KOF 96. ..I just realized 96 was my favorite soundtrack of all the KOFs, too.
I like the opening theme KOF2001 You can say anything about that game but the opening was really good! Also, the logo of KOF2001 is amazing! Easily in my top three
Man that was beautiful! Even though I played KOF since 94 it was 96 who made me fall in love with the game and the music was a big part of that. For that reason KOF 96 remains as my favorite to this day. It`s rare to find people who can understand the feelings I had when I used to go to an arcade to play KOF. It seems you and I had very similar experiences growing up with this franchise (including the fact that the same thing happened to me when fighting K`s team and the music doing exactly the same thing you mentioned!). No wonder why I enjoy your content so much and why it is so much better than other channels talking about the franchise. Keep up with the awesome content man!
I am SO GLAD Splendid Evil got in the upper part of this list. Joker and its KOF13 follow-up were great, but I don't think that any of those tracks matched Ash more than Splendid Evil did. If I had to pick a personal favorite it'd be KOF13's Wild Street.
Splendid Evil was an incredible soundtrack which introduced Ash an anti-hero plus Ash caused me to learn charge motions although Ash's combos are hard but fun to do

I'm so happy that you included In Spite of One's Age in this list! It's easily my favourite track from the series because even Neo Geo pocket version sounds incredibly good.

Ikari Warriors Rumbling on the City from KOF 96 and 98. Just like Esaka? Rumbling on the City is a track that just screams kof and it was also the first kof game i bought. The stage for 96 how the song and fight begin just makes me want to play that game once again.
I don't know if it's my all time favorite, but one of my many favorite themes from KoF that you didn't mention in the list is "SHINING·BRAVE!" from 2002 UM.
I personally love the Psycho Soldier, Who Is Queen? and Stormy Saxophone 5 Themes from XIII, but I respect your decision. They _are_ so good, especially Iori's.
That shows what a solid music legacy is. There are priorities above those. Also, unlike Capcom, SNK constantly makes a lot of new themes, maybe even too much. Like, before the 2000s Terry already had 6 or so personal themes... more than Ryu ever got in 30 years.
My props to you for making this list, I don't think I could. KoF songs(hell, SNK songs) are so good I would spend a whole day thinking about a top 20. But I think I can say with certain confidence that Bloody is my favorite track. All about it is so cool and the break and the middle is so genius. Can't wait for CYS team to come back.
Kyo's themes are just consistently great, but out of all the his themes, Esaka Forever from 97 is my favorite one with Goodbye Esaka from 2000 being a close second. Meanwhile, the Ikari Warriors are my favorite team. My favorite Ikari Themes are Rumbling in the city from 96 and WWIII from 99. My favorite Iori Yagami themes meanwhile are Sadistic Eyes from 99 and Cool Jam from 97.

Kof music is always epic in my opinion my most favourite is KD-0079 from KOF 99 it's epic and introduces K' who is a badass character in terms of design and gameplay
ESAKA? There is only one song that has appeared on Orochi Story, Nest Story, Ash Story, and New Story more than once. Its symbolism and completeness are said to be the best and most outstanding, and not only the King of Fighters but also the representative song of SNK.
Great list, and the top two definitely earned those spots for sure. My personal all-time favorite is "The Way to Rebirth" from '99. That game for me had the most memorable soundtrack, but I get why you'd go with a more iconic Kim theme.

I agree with literally all of them. Personally tho, another one that's close to my heart is Dust Man from KOF 96. Mr. Big's theme has this dark atmosphere that becomes pretty majestic, and it meshes so well with the beat. Alongside Esaka, it's become one of my favourite songs ever.
I've been playing the KOF games since the very first one in 94 and I'm endlessly happy to have found your channel. KOF doesn't get enough love from people so it's always great to find a fellow fan. Online I always go by the nicknames "Akira Kusanagi" or (as you can see here) "Orochi Kyo". This aside, although it really is though to make a top 10 or 20 with such an amazing soundtrack, the good thing is that you can never go wrong since in it's majority all tracks are really good. My personal top 3 would be "Esaka Forever", "Rythmic Hallucination" and "Origin of Mind" (yes, KOF '97 is my favorite). You probably won't read such a long post two months after the video was uploaded but if you do, keep up the good job and and best regards from a Portuguese fan.
I was really hoping Wild Street and KDD-0075 would make it to your top 10 after the Part 1 video, those are 2 of my favourites. But still you picked some amazing tracks that I've never even heard of that I ended up adding them to my playlist, to that I say thanks.
True, music is subjective as you said in the end of the video and I do agree. While I disagree with you about some of the tracks, your videos at least helped me find some awesome tracks from KoF games I haven't played. I first discovered the series with a KoF 94 arcade machine. My favorite tracks from KoF 94 are the arranged Japan team theme, the OST Korea theme and Rugal's stage 2 theme. Also KoF 2003 and KOF 13's tracks deserved some spots on that list - I know Splendid Evil's in there but I honestly like Esaka from 2003 much more than the 96 version and hearing Diabolosis while you're at your 3rd fighter while Ash's HP bar is at max truly makes you feel like you're doomed and makes you remember the track :D
I would have placed Esaka '97 as #1. It gives the foreboding feeling that a fire is growing within the hero (Kyou Kusanagi), and goes into a firey but carefree aspect.

arashi no saxophone 2 is not only my most fav kof soundtrack,it's one of the best music I've heard in games in general.While it isn’t number 1,I'm glad you atleast ranked it no.2.Seriously,Iori always has the best theme songs.
I know my favorite pick my be a bit off the wall, but my favorite track in all of KoF has to be the arranged version of Kamikirimushi. That lovely Spanish vibe it gives me while your fighting Team Art of Fighting, and it looks like a wicked storm is about to blow through some desert in the middle of Arizona. How the stage itself is just a more somber version of the Team Fatal Fury stage, so even the song sounds a bit somber yet still so high energy! Ah, I love it! Really though, with Trash Head, Arashi No Saxophone 2, and the country remix version of Terry's Big Shot, 96 has soooooooo many great tracks!

I think the number one spot in this list is an affair of personal taste for the youtuber. Otherwise my personal favorite is Arashi no saxophone 2. The video with that soundtrack is THE MOST VIEWED KOF related content on the Internet, with 3 million views. So from the numbers alone Arashi no Saxophone 2 is objectively the best theme. But the first theme on this list is a great theme too. Great stuff as always.
I remember the PS1's port of KOF '99, and I think I recall that bit with KD-0079, too, where it seems to start right in the middle of the song. I had the luck of playing the Dreamcast port before the PS1, and I was thrown off by the loading screens between rounds and that the music was broken up differently. Still, what a heck of a track! Might be my fave track in the entire series!
"Destiny" from 2002 UM. Bro, your ears are supreme. That's my favorite theme and "Masquerade" ( also in 2002 UM ). We would probably be good neighbours if we lived near each other.
A good video and a tough list to make. In no order, my favourite songs are Esaka, Inner Shade, and Splendid Evil. I feel like Splendid Evil would make fantastic ending music for the first episode reveal if KOF was ever made into a TV series. (Are you listening, Netflix?)
I've already put down some of my favorite tracks in the last video, and I'm happy to see that about half of them made it in. Bummed that Arashi no Saxophone 2 wasn't number 1, but it's no surprise that Esaka would take make it there, since it's the theme that is iconic of the series. I'm surprised Ketsutou R&D didn't make the list at all. It's the signature theme for Rugal for almost everyone. Regardless, KOF has a whole collection of amazing songs, and it's always great to hear them when you play.
Great video. Some of my personal picks are listed in your top 20. One of my favorite is KOF 99 - Standby. It is playing on the background during the tutorial, character then order select. It pumps you up before the fight while playing in the arcade
Kof 95's Mexico stage , Iori yagami team stage , cutscene music , winner music and Rugal's final battle are still unbeatable they are the most iconic.Period!
It's iconic, but not the most iconic SNK theme, in my opinion, Psycho Soldier from the arcade game is the most iconic SNK theme ever, the japanese cassette of the original theme proves it.
This was surely one hell of a 2 parter to make, I'm so proud of your efforts! (2 whole years since... don't we all feel older now?) With XV now playable, where would you rank that game as far as the soundtrack? If I'm being honest, the hardest part of watching this video is imagining that at some point that you'll HAVE to make a sequel and the rankings won't be the same. Perhaps if all of that proves to be too exhausting for your soul, I have an alternative solution: pick 1 track from each canonical KOF game and explain why it is the "one" to listen to. Not bad list. My would be : 5. Rugal 98 theme 4. Dear Falling Angel Kryzalid 99 theme 3. Bloody 97 2. Esaka 98 (it is in every aspect better than 96) and undoubtful #1 when you say epic you hear Rhytmic Hallucination AST from KOF97 which is THE BEST sub-boss fight ever.
Knew it it'd be Esaka, that theme is like World1-1 of Mario or Megaman's Stage start theme. It's so iconic it screams KOF in it. But too bad no Butterfly emerges from Chrysalis / Mad Fantasy on the list, I love that one (Especially KOF Allstar version). No Showdown R&D either. A little shame but understandable, also Cutting Edge was in but pretty low entry.
Your top five is basically the same as mine, only bumping off KD-0079 and putting in Rumbling on the City. For me, RotC is one of the best themes in the series that portrays the team together rather than any individual character on the team. It totally feels like Ralf, Clark, and Leona on a mission covering each other's backs, and introduced a sort of youthfulness and energy to the team that was missing in the darker, grittier themes of Jungle Bouncer and Desert Requiem. I felt this energy was further carried on into their later themes like WWIII, The Trooper, and Survivors Under the Sky.
Esaka is my best theme🔥🔥, though I still like other Kyo themes like Esaka Continues and Goodbye Esaka. Still KOF has a variety of cool themes than other fighting games to the point that they are in my music playlist😂😂. Thanks for the video👍

"Second Joker" deserved a spot, so did "Purity Soldier", but number 1 should have been "Rythmic Hallucination". Nothing screams epic more than that, since you are facing the "Heavenly Kings", one of the most, if not the most epic battle in all KOF! And this theme was just perfect! But, I forgive you only because you placed "Esaka?" In number 1.

I love Esaka?, but I've got a real soft spot for Iori's Cool Jam from 97 as well. It's the first time I'd ever heard that style of upbeat jazz used for a fighting game. It'll always be my favorite from KOF.
I'm not that fan of Cool Jam, even it's still a great theme, but i think Sadistic Eyes deserves more love, after Arashi no Saxophone 2, Sadistic Eyes is my personal favorite theme of Iori.
I have a real soft spot for Kyo's Esaka Forever from 97 as well, still thinks that it's his definitive theme.

I like your list(s), both of them were fair and well explained. That said, I would've liked to see Terry's team theme from 96, I liked that version of Big Shot, which you can only get in KOF 96.

Man that was beautiful! Even though I played KOF since 94 it was 96 who made me fall in love with the game and the music was a big part of that. For that reason KOF 96 remains as my favorite to this day. It`s rare to find people who can understand the feelings I had when I used to go to an arcade to play KOF. It seems you and I had very similar experiences growing up with this franchise (including the fact that the same thing happened to me when fighting K`s team and the music doing exactly the same thing you mentioned!). No wonder why I enjoy your content so much and why it is so much better than other channels talking about the franchise. Keep up with the awesome content man!

I am SO GLAD Splendid Evil got in the upper part of this list. Joker and its KOF13 follow-up were great, but I don't think that any of those tracks matched Ash more than Splendid Evil did.
If I had to pick a personal favorite it'd be KOF13's Wild Street.
Splendid Evil was an incredible soundtrack which introduced Ash an anti-hero plus Ash caused me to learn charge motions although Ash's combos are hard but fun to do

Ikari Warriors Rumbling on the City from KOF 96 and 98. Just like Esaka? Rumbling on the City is a track that just screams kof and it was also the first kof game i bought. The stage for 96 how the song and fight begin just makes me want to play that game once again.

I don't know if it's my all time favorite, but one of my many favorite themes from KoF that you didn't mention in the list is "SHINING·BRAVE!" from 2002 UM.
I personally love the Psycho Soldier, Who Is Queen? and Stormy Saxophone 5 Themes from XIII, but I respect your decision. They _are_ so good, especially Iori's.

My props to you for making this list, I don't think I could. KoF songs(hell, SNK songs) are so good I would spend a whole day thinking about a top 20. But I think I can say with certain confidence that Bloody is my favorite track. All about it is so cool and the break and the middle is so genius. Can't wait for CYS team to come back.
Kyo's themes are just consistently great, but out of all the his themes, Esaka Forever from 97 is my favorite one with Goodbye Esaka from 2000 being a close second.
Meanwhile, the Ikari Warriors are my favorite team. My favorite Ikari Themes are Rumbling in the city from 96 and WWIII from 99.

Just finished hearing them, and I can’t believe there’s NOT one bad Iori theme. Love the bass ones because he plays bass and love the jazz ones because he loves jazz(me too). All the styles are so good!

I agree with literally all of them. Personally tho, another one that's close to my heart is Dust Man from KOF 96. Mr. Big's theme has this dark atmosphere that becomes pretty majestic, and it meshes so well with the beat. Alongside Esaka, it's become one of my favourite songs ever.
I've been playing the KOF games since the very first one in 94 and I'm endlessly happy to have found your channel. KOF doesn't get enough love from people so it's always great to find a fellow fan. Online I always go by the nicknames "Akira Kusanagi" or (as you can see here) "Orochi Kyo".
This aside, although it really is though to make a top 10 or 20 with such an amazing soundtrack, the good thing is that you can never go wrong since in it's majority all tracks are really good. My personal top 3 would be "Esaka Forever", "Rythmic Hallucination" and "Origin of Mind" (yes, KOF '97 is my favorite).
You probably won't read such a long post two months after the video was uploaded but if you do, keep up the good job and and best regards from a Portuguese fan.

True, music is subjective as you said in the end of the video and I do agree. While I disagree with you about some of the tracks, your videos at least helped me find some awesome tracks from KoF games I haven't played. I first discovered the series with a KoF 94 arcade machine. My favorite tracks from KoF 94 are the arranged Japan team theme, the OST Korea theme and Rugal's stage 2 theme. Also KoF 2003 and KOF 13's tracks deserved some spots on that list - I know Splendid Evil's in there but I honestly like Esaka from 2003 much more than the 96 version and hearing Diabolosis while you're at your 3rd fighter while Ash's HP bar is at max truly makes you feel like you're doomed and makes you remember the track :D

I know my favorite pick my be a bit off the wall, but my favorite track in all of KoF has to be the arranged version of Kamikirimushi. That lovely Spanish vibe it gives me while your fighting Team Art of Fighting, and it looks like a wicked storm is about to blow through some desert in the middle of Arizona. How the stage itself is just a more somber version of the Team Fatal Fury stage, so even the song sounds a bit somber yet still so high energy! Ah, I love it!
Really though, with Trash Head, Arashi No Saxophone 2, and the country remix version of Terry's Big Shot, 96 has soooooooo many great tracks!

I think the number one spot in this list is an affair of personal taste for the youtuber. Otherwise my personal favorite is Arashi no saxophone 2.
The video with that soundtrack is THE MOST VIEWED KOF related content on the Internet, with 3 million views. So from the numbers alone Arashi no Saxophone 2 is objectively the best theme. But the first theme on this list is a great theme too. Great stuff as always.
I remember the PS1's port of KOF '99, and I think I recall that bit with KD-0079, too, where it seems to start right in the middle of the song. I had the luck of playing the Dreamcast port before the PS1, and I was thrown off by the loading screens between rounds and that the music was broken up differently. Still, what a heck of a track! Might be my fave track in the entire series!
"Destiny" from 2002 UM. Bro, your ears are supreme. That's my favorite theme and "Masquerade" ( also in 2002 UM ). We would probably be good neighbours if we lived near each other.
A good video and a tough list to make. In no order, my favourite songs are Esaka, Inner Shade, and Splendid Evil. I feel like Splendid Evil would make fantastic ending music for the first episode reveal if KOF was ever made into a TV series. (Are you listening, Netflix?)
I've already put down some of my favorite tracks in the last video, and I'm happy to see that about half of them made it in. Bummed that Arashi no Saxophone 2 wasn't number 1, but it's no surprise that Esaka would take make it there, since it's the theme that is iconic of the series.
I'm surprised Ketsutou R&D didn't make the list at all. It's the signature theme for Rugal for almost everyone. Regardless, KOF has a whole collection of amazing songs, and it's always great to hear them when you play.

Great video. Some of my personal picks are listed in your top 20. One of my favorite is KOF 99 - Standby. It is playing on the background during the tutorial, character then order select. It pumps you up before the fight while playing in the arcade

It's iconic, but not the most iconic SNK theme, in my opinion, Psycho Soldier from the arcade game is the most iconic SNK theme ever, the japanese cassette of the original theme proves it.
This was surely one hell of a 2 parter to make, I'm so proud of your efforts! (2 whole years since... don't we all feel older now?)
With XV now playable, where would you rank that game as far as the soundtrack?
If I'm being honest, the hardest part of watching this video is imagining that at some point that you'll HAVE to make a sequel and the rankings won't be the same.

and undoubtful #1 when you say epic you hear Rhytmic Hallucination AST from KOF97 which is THE BEST sub-boss fight ever.
Knew it it'd be Esaka, that theme is like World1-1 of Mario or Megaman's Stage start theme. It's so iconic it screams KOF in it.
But too bad no Butterfly emerges from Chrysalis / Mad Fantasy on the list, I love that one (Especially KOF Allstar version). No Showdown R&D either. A little shame but understandable, also Cutting Edge was in but pretty low entry.

Your top five is basically the same as mine, only bumping off KD-0079 and putting in Rumbling on the City. For me, RotC is one of the best themes in the series that portrays the team together rather than any individual character on the team. It totally feels like Ralf, Clark, and Leona on a mission covering each other's backs, and introduced a sort of youthfulness and energy to the team that was missing in the darker, grittier themes of Jungle Bouncer and Desert Requiem. I felt this energy was further carried on into their later themes like WWIII, The Trooper, and Survivors Under the Sky.
Esaka is my best theme🔥🔥, though I still like other Kyo themes like Esaka Continues and Goodbye Esaka. Still KOF has a variety of cool themes than other fighting games to the point that they are in my music playlist😂😂. Thanks for the video👍
