I've just bought one, used it at the range and was very impressed....it definately eliminated my snap hook for the most part. One question though - can it be used in competition play on the course?
This has got to be the best video out there to explain the ideal golf grip. I feel so much more comfortable and feel like I have control of the club now! Thanks guys!
Thanks Andy, I didn't realize my problem was my trail right hand. My right hand was gripping in my palm. Yes I have been pulling or over drawing my irons or my driver ie even my wedges. I've only been doing this for 12 months not knowing I only had to make a simple change to my grip. I have being left and right with driver. Since I have the change ie my right hand grip more in my hands has made a world of difference. Great videos keep up the great work. Michael
I wouldn’t worry too much about the right hand. My swing suits the stronger grip he suggests and I’ve tried the neutral but I’m a 4 HC so works for me and drive it 250m carry
Try to put it in a position where you can create a “hook” underneath the grip with your index finger like a trigger. The second joint should wrap around the grip securely.
I just started playing golf 2 months back and started with ten finger then overlap and now interlock my fingers are paining not still satisfied with my grip
Thanks guys. So much to learn:) Pros work on their grip all the time but most amateurs fight a bad grip their whole golfing life because they don’t want to spend a week getting use to a new proper grip. Very sad.
This grip lesson was awesome and percise. This made me realize, how important going back to basics makes the game so much more consistant. Thank you so much for this great lesson; I went to the range and played a round and focused on the grip. What a difference, so much more consistant and the shots were pure. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!
I've just started playing, and I often find that my overlapping fingers hurt as i hold the club. This video is a big help, i can go back and look at the basics again.
Perfect timing for me finding this quick and easy video. Although i play off scratch every now and again i get a few horror rounds and need to go back to basics. And first thing to check is my grip and sure enough it had gone to pot. Hope you don't mind but got my Sharpie out and coloured my glove same pattern, and hey presto back to hitting it solid in a few shots. Cheers guys 👍👏
Just bought the glove. Also didn't realise how high you hold the left hand! I thought I needed to further down. Very looking forward to giving this ago on the driving range.
Wow, After playing a round this past Sunday, I watched this video and found the reason I was pulling my drives left. i usually have a slight fade, if I am not slicing the dang thing, so I looked at how I was setting up my grip and found I was placing my trail hand too much under the grip. When I saw Andy do this and he hit it left, it was like he was copying me! Thanks guys, my true grip glove arrives today, woot woot!
Got my true grip, seems very snug! I usually wear an XL/2XL and this is like a M/L. It does fit..like a second skin! Will take it with me to the range later and see how I hit 'em....
Flipping light bulb moment with the 'Deep Interlock' that's why I've always struggled to get my right hand over, felt virtually impossible. I literally went and found a piece of pipe at work so I could practice! Many thanks, can't wait to try this as I'm struggling with the pull hooks to the left. (I think partially from the grip but also sometimes over the top swing)
Great video, many thanks for it's simplicity :) Currently trying to rebuild my grip as I've been putting holes in my gloves after a round or two. I believe this was caused by 2 things, one the shaft was too high in the hand and second I was allowing the grip to loosen at the top of the backswing, any tips for stopping this problem ?
Changing my grip and learning my grip that is perfect for me has truly made me better . I use to baseball grip and ever since I focused more on proper grip I’m losing 6 strokes easily
I’m a PGA teaching professional and I teach the grip almost exactly like this. One checkpoint that I use is on the underside of the handle my “door knocker “ knuckles are almost in a straight line. You do it too, but you didn’t say it. Best grip video I’ve seen. I will definitely save and share. Where or how can I get one of those gloves?
New golfer, had a really weak grip. Had some lessons and my Top hand is fairly neutral now but bottom hand is too strong. Going to work on this over the winter months in the UK. Cheers guys
Gotta get me a glove like that! I am going to the range after I get it and practice. I am sure I will watch this video several times. Great video guys.
This was really good. I think my tendency on the interlocked grip is in "jam" my right pinky too far, which causes a strong right hand grip and inconsistency. Plan on going out this week and working on the steps you desribed.
I do the same. I just feel like I need to get the hands as tight together as I can. This video really explained why I have trouble with many of my shots.
It took a while to get use to it. But I use the over-lap grip. I'm now learning to release the clubs properly. The driver release is proving to be quite different!!
@Meandmygolf I really like the content you guys get in your videos. I like the way you break things down. Some of this golf swing stuff isn't all that obvious! Especially to new players. Thank you for the video's, they are very helpful.
One of the clearest explanations on the golf grip. It covers all parts and gives the reasons for the position of the leading hand and how strong it should be and the position of the trailing hand and how strong it should be to achieve a neutral grip. Excellent.
Thanks I have a terrible grip. Haha way to week RH over the top thanks will work on fixing this. What do you think about good grip as you demonstrate without linking the fingers or overlapping them.
Excited, I’m normally the small/medium. Hopefully that will be restock soon. I bought the medium/large, probably a bit too big, but it will give me a general idea to keep practicing on.
Great video Andy and Piers and I am enjoying using your MAMG glove(right handed!) - really helpful. I use the 10 finger 'baseball' grip. I feel it gives me more control particularly with the longer irons, hybrids and woods/driver. Whether that is a known fact is up for discussion I guess.
@@anandshah71 Hi Anand, currently using a left hand glove only but now there is a right handed MAMG glove available I'll give it a try. Sticking to the 10 finger grip though - it works well for me. 👍
My right hand dominates the downswing causing me sometimes to hit tops or fat shots especially with fairway woods. Do yo recommend the left hand being more in control of swing overall? Thanks 😊
I learned how to grip the club from Ben Hogan's "Five Lessons" over 40 years ago. His method is to position the club in the left hand by placing it in curve of the index finger and then up against the upper pad of the palm. He specifically tells the reader to NOT hold the club at the base of the fingers as you show here. This is very interesting. I will try your method and see what happens.
Great, simple reminder of what I used to do when I was gripping it right. Now, until this reminder, I had moved my right hand into the strong grip position and have been wondering why my shots have been going 20 meters left.
Tommy armour brought me here 😂 Great video tho 🙏🏼 I feel like I’ve always played with a strong grip and for the most part strike the ball well but sometimes I feel like I’m losing control of my club head and my bad shots are a strong hook or I lose it high right ( especially with my 3 wood ) when I grip the club as explained by you guys which feels so much weaker I definitely feel more stable with the club head but feels like I will lose a lot of distance. ( currently playing off 8 )
Can having a strong grip give you wrist pain? I know one of the biggest reasons I thin or fat is my grip inconsistency. Never would’ve thought about that right hand closing the shoulders. Hopefully that helps with my next range session
At 1.00 on your video the illustration shows the two dots pointing at what looks like the third and fourth knuckle, do you not count the knuckle on the first finger as one of the two knuckles?
After a hitting a bucket of balls at the range I noticed I rubbed the skin off the side of my ring finger just below finger nail on right hand. A little blood was on my glove on left pointer finger about knuckle down on left hand. Could this be caused by to loose of grip causing fingers to rub on each other?
Thank you men. I believe my right hand may be a bit under or strong. I fight a duck hook at times and have my driver set up for max fade to fight it. I also have a tendency to get flippy with the hands. Your grip tips may help both and increase my consistency. Have a 10 handicap.
Sounds like the grips may be too thin or the heel pad is not positioned on top correctly. Do you wash your grips in warm soapy water at least once each month as they can build up with dirt and debris making the slippery.
I am working on a more neutral grip as my grip is strong but I am struggling to get the distance I can achieve with a strong grip and starting to slice even though I try to come from the inside. I also get blisters on my glove hand (left) just middle and ring fingers so guessing I grip too hard?
I am gripping my right hand over to much like your 3rd illustration, must change that asap your right my shots tend to go right and quite often hit the ground first. Thanks guys great video.
I have shorter fingers, (cadet size glove is perfect) but this complicates the grip staying in the proper place when I close my left hand. This mandates a regular gripe size. How do people, even with large hands, use the Bryson grips?
A bad grip has come back to haunt me and caused a major mental issue where i cant take the driver back until i have rolled my left hand UNDER the grip. Then a weak massive roll back and a shot or lost ball to make me take 20 valium 😩😢. Just irdered the GOLVE from you. Please bless it with Rosary beads for me 🤓👍
I've changed to a baseball grip and it allows me to have independence in both hands and a faster swing. I've gained about 10 yards distance per club. Why isnt this grip used more often?
Does anyone hold the club more in the palm of their left hand (right handed golfer) one of the greatest golfers of all time Ben Hogan stressed that if should follow through the base of index finger and go diagonally into the palm under the padded part of hand then he closed his grip around the club, do any other greats do this? Even in this demonstration at 1.20 I see the hand come off the club and hold it between the index finger and hold under the pad just like Hogan did but then reverts back into the fingers in demonstation. I Believe in the fingers it creates more speed but more in the palm creates more control.. anyone agree?
My problem is grip pressure. I grip the club like I’m wringing out a towel. Trying to get every drop out. Been working on trying to loosen up. Have more flow. Let the club actually work like it’s supposed to instead of trying to muscle it.

I’ve messed about with my grip this year and now I’m in a mess. Handicap going up and hardly played a good round. Balls going everywhere but straight 😢
Putting the grip down the middle of the blue line on the grip makes me feel like I have it more in the palms then before 😢. I have to put in on the right edge of the blue line to get my normal feel
I actually disagree abt the right hand. I think a strong right hand grip is much more dangerous than a weaker right hand. Almost all pros favor a weaker right hand grip. Padraig Harrington echoes this in his grip videos as well.
