Trump has been caught saying worse things many times over the years, and nothing has stuck (which is the reason he's called Teflon Don). This is not the 1970s when a newspaper story could expose a crime or scandal and take down a powerful figure. Woodward is just one man, and had he appeared on MSNBC or CNN screaming at the top of his lungs that Trump was downplaying COVID, we know exactly what would have happened on the Republican side... NOTHING. Also you failed to criticize the DOZENS of Trump staffers who saw his misdeeds firsthand and could have exposed him "in real time". (After voting 100% against the infrastructure bill, many republicans bragged to their constituents about the benefits it brought to their states.) Oh and 3) Don't vote for idiots who pose with their children armed with semiautomatic weapons. Geesh. Where is child protective services???

I had no agreement with Goldwater's policies, but with the benefit of hindsight, as many others have articulated far more persuasively than I could ever do, these are debates over policy, debates over what ways to proceed are to the benefit of the country. This is not the case today; these are no longer debates about how to invest tax dollars for the best return. Now, we are confronted with fantasies of reality; which way is up, does air exist, is the world really round. It is beyond crazy. People out there have lost their sense of reality. "Should we spend this money on roads or education, or put it into the military? Again." That's a debate. "What sound is purple?" is just fucking madness.

I was camper at Interlochen arts camp and our drama director found a television somewhere and plugged it in in the theater and we watched the resignation and I cried from relief and sadness for what he put our country through. my dad worked for the Nixon administration and I was friends with other kids whose dads worked for Nixon too. there was another boy whose dad was a reporter at the Washington Post and he also cried. But most of the other campers were less than interested, as kids often are. And that made me sad too. I wonder if they care now.

TheBelllsTolling: You know, Richard Nixon actually committed an act of treason during the Vietnam War. While Nixon was running for President in 1968, President Lyndon Johnson wanted to begin new peace talks between the North and South to try to end the war within the next year or 2 (and some believe that this could have worked had Vice President Hubert Humphrey won in 1968). However, Nixon secretly contacted the leaders of both sides in Vietnam and basically told them to not make any deal with Johnson and wait until after the election, because if Nixon won he promised to provide both with a better deal which (unknown to the public at the time) was his "secret plan" as he called it. According to the U.S. Constitution, Treason (which is the ONLY crime fully defined within the document) is providing aid or comfort to an enemy that we are fighting during a time of war. And even when President Johnson called Nixon to confront him on this, Johnson knew Nixon was obviously lying when Nixon said that he wasn't preventing Johnson's new peace talks from happening, but Johnson couldn't do anything about it. So yeah, Richard Nixon committed an actual act of treason but the public didn't know about this potentially damaging piece of evidence that could hurt him as President and the United States when they had voted for him in 1968, and it's thanks to this action by Nixon that the Vietnam War lasted an additional 5 years and costs thousands more American lives.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that all Trump's appearances and proclamations were aimed, not at garnering enough votes to win, but at convincing his base that he was automatically the winner whatever the outcome at the polls.
Cautioning them against mail-in voting (of which Republicans had been the original instigators) is a case in point: he knew but didn't care that it would harm his eventual tally, because he wanted the early appearance of being ahead, in order to validate his long-sown narrative of a robbed election.
it was obvious even to him that he could not win a fair fight, so he threw the match in a way which would start a brawl in the crowd.
It looked as if he was making the same stupid mistake as the USSR in the space race (they contrived to win almost every milestone for nearly a decade, but omitted to build a solid foundation for the "home straight", soft-landing humans and getting them home.)
But he had a twist: unlike the USSR, he effectively convinced some sane people (not just the usual conspiracy nut cases) that the Americans had faked their landing.

I turned 17 the weekend of the Watergate break-in. I watched the drama unfold as a curious older teenager, finishing up high school and then as a freshman in college. I figured out pretty quickly that something stunk in the Oval Office of the White House, and it wasn't a day old salami sandwich. What I don't understand is what took Barry Goldwater (ans so many other Americans) so long. I also don't know why Pence gets credit for doing the right thing when he had to check in with Dan Quayle to be sure.

It's so cool to see the two partners - still kicking and still friends with each other. I'm 70, and they're like dear uncles to me. I was 21 and residing in DC during the Watergate hearings, .... and I watched every moment. I even saw Halderman, near the WH on 16th Street, looking like a spy. I think he was trying to score heroin (for himself and/or Nixon?). Nixon was already a bourbon alcoholic and manic depressive, so why wouldn't he want to do some street heroin? It's a comforting drug.

2:11 - 2:18 “this is a tough human, someone who watched water boarding” what a quote 🤣🤣 watching America effectively get water boarded doesn’t make someone tough(what you did to stand up for America during this autocratic/etc abuses of power blip in modern American history, makes one tough). Wouldn’t one think those who effectively got unjustly water boarded by the open ended direction of an autocrat/dictator/etc would be the tough one, not the one who sat back and watched it happen within a 4 year period of a blip in modern American history. Doing the dirty laundry for a guy who seemly sent his henchmen to beat Americans out of the way so that he could take a photo holding a bible 🧐really 🤔 so tough. This is America the best country in the history of the world thus far 🇺🇸 , it’s not North Korea. Do better. So tough. Psh. FBI/(okay admittedly many in the CIA/FBI/etc but that’s not the portion that’s focused on in this case study)/etc are tough for at least attempting to stand up for American people in America and attempting to uphold American values during the 4 year blip of American history. But those who knowing sat by and or partook in those abuses of power and the American values, are the least bit tough for betraying America and it’s people during this blip of modern American history, it’s the 21st century. Others knowingly watched the abuses of power occur (i.e. to the American people), that’s not being tough… that’s SPINELESS weakness of American values to knowingly stand by without standing up for the most basic American values. These guys are kind of funny, in part for the wrong reasons tho 🤦🏾‍♂️ 😂oof

0:55 - 1:27 wow does that make it better or worse that they stood by witnessing the abuses of power to the people they signed an oath to serve above all else. 4 years of abuses of power, 4 years may be a blip in American history but that’s a significant amount of time in regards to the average American lifespan… it’s true the abuses were not equally distributed across the board and may or may not have affected their targeted voting bases, but for the sake of America and all Americans knowingly turning a blinds eye to the abuses we all witnessed in front of our very own eyes is a betrayal to the people of the country they signed an oath to serve. Not sure he’s effectively saying what he thinks he’s intending to say in regards to knowingly/intentionally or unknowingly/unintentionally doing wrong… does it not seem worse when people in power/influence knowingly do wrong by America and the people of America 🇺🇸 🤔idk it doesn’t sound any better
