He may not be the fittest player of all time but he has certainly cemented his name in the history books as one of greatest players football has ever seen. He was born in Bento Ribeiro, a poor neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Like many of his friends, he began to play football in the streets of his neighborhood knowing that his only way out of his poverty was to play football and become a professional player, little did he know that he will not only become a professional player but one the best professional players of all time in this sport.
Ronaldo Luis Nazário de Lima (born September 18, 1976), is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a striker for the Italian Serie A club AC Milan. He has been nicknamed as "The Phenomenon" due to his unique style and flawless technique which made him score at will and was able to execute moves which were not seen before. Pelé named him one of the 125 greatest living footballers in March 2004. In 2007 France Football named him in their best starting 11 of all time.
Ronaldo has enjoyed success at the international level as well, he won the 1994 and 2002 FIFA World Cups with Brazil.
Ronaldo has won three FIFA World Player of the Year awards (1996, 1997, 2002). He and former Real Madrid teammate Zinedine Zidane are the only two men to have won the award three times with Ronaldinho behind them with 2.
Ronaldo for me has been the most unlucky player of all time as well. Had it not been for his injuries, he would have crossed the legends we now know in Pele and Maradonna. No wonder why Jose Mourinho in his time at Chelsea once stated "Ronaldo was a better player than Maradonna in 1998-19993. This statement really ratified so to say, in authenticating Ronaldo's status as truly one of the greats of the game. Yet, he has not been given the recognition he deserves for the services he has given to football. Ronaldo really is a God's gift to football.
Ronaldo - The Master
People now a days talk about Cristiano Ronaldo as being the maestro in the midfield taking on players at will. I tell people to watch the real Ronaldo's archive videos and only then they would be able to realize what a talent Ronaldo was at his peak and before that as well. His peak, that never came actually as he got injured during the best years of his career and had he played in those years, only God knows what sort of records he would have made, I think he would have at the least broken every single record in the champions league, World Cups and all the league's he played in.
He could have won the World Player Of the Year at least 3 to 4 more times if he had remained fit during his mid 20's which would have taken him to the very top of hall of fame. Its just a shame how Ronaldo's career is taking its final steps as he continues to struggle to keep himself fit to play and show the world once again that there is only one Ronaldo and that is Ronaldo of Brazil.
Saying Ronaldo... is to say goal. And to talk about spectacular goals, bursting sprints and indescribable executions, is to talk about Ronaldo, no one has scored more goals in the world cups than him in history. Born in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the Brazilian capital, many say that the best forward in the world with a ball at his feet is Ronaldo. But it was never easy due to all the injuries he had and his personal life which was filled with controversies.
At 14 he was on the point of playing for Flamengo, but he didn´t have the money to pay the four bus ticket needed to go from his home to the club. Nevertheless, glory was waiting for him around the corner. At only 19 years of age, and playing in the lineup of PSV, he was elected by FIFA's best player in the world and at such an early age he showcased his potential at the highest level when he moved to barcelona the following year.
After that he never looked back and went from strength to strength and now although he many not be in his best form right now but Ronaldo has achieved everything there is to achieve in football and still at 31 who knows, what more magic has he got up his sleeve. He is going toward the twilight of his career now and I really hope that he can finish it with one last boom like Zidane did in the World Cup.

I cried while watching the game. It was most heartbreaking moments in history too see the most explosive striker in history subdued. But The Phenomenon will be the only 19 year old in history who won FIFA player of the year. The youngest Ballon'dor ever. There will never be a complete teenage striker who defeated adults before he was even 18 years old.

No endless replays, no constant close ups of the players face ( like c ronaldo vids where he poses 50% of the time), no stupid flashy effects, just pure clips of the immense Ronaldo, and a lot of footage I've never seen before (and I've seen a LOT of Ronaldo vids)

Ronaldo saw the movement of the players around him in slow motion while moving faster then all of them at the same time. He was amazing! I want that era back.
I am Brazilian, and I watched Pele when I was a kid, and all the great players behind him like Zico, Rivelino, Romario, Falcão, Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Socrates, and many others. BUT R9 STANDS ALONE! It's difficult to fathom this legacy: he redefined and changed soccer forever. He is a contrarian. His jersey 9 proved to be better than any player wearing shirt 10 in the history of the sport. He did things that were thought to be physically impossible. Hence his legendary nickname "phenomenon." To this day I have a hard time following some of the subtle and quick moves of his feet. He glides past any number of defenders like they don't exist. There is no sign of fear as he faces two or seven defenders, it does not matter to him. His explosiveness, raw talent, skill, creativity, and finesse make for an experience that is out of this world. R9 is the GOAT (though not in all aspects of the game).

Advices from coaches to defenders before matchs against Ronaldo: Don't watch his body watch the ball, don't let him turn over, watch out for the stepovers, if he runs put him the ground instantly, close yor legs son always, if you are man to man don't panic you can still use your hands I will ask again ,SON you really want to do that ?

I rarely if ever watch an 11 minute video on youtube without skipping at least some part of the video. I have seen a lot of video's on the goals he scored and this is, well, it is a fantastic compilation of his dribbling skills and just makes me understand of how good of a player this guy was. In terms of pure talent and skill, Ronaldo is unmatched. He played in an ordinary Barca and Inter which really show the world how good he was to have lifted those mediocre teams. It is unbelievable how good he really was and what he could have achieved if he was injury free.

In 2002 and 2003 he was so good, the best player in the world. But in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999 he was just not of this world. He was truly an Phenomenon. There was just no way someone could be that strong and fast, that skillful with great technique and unmatched finishing. He could play against anyone or any slaughter- house defending (Serie A), in any pitch, with any teammates and tactics.

I disagree. He plays with the speed, certainty and precision of someone who has rehearsed that exact situation many times. It's as if he always knows where his opponent's body will be, and where the ball will be. He jumps at exactly the right time, turns at exactly the right time, misses the tackle by the smallest amount of distance possible--you almost wonder how he didn't get hit by the defenders, how he wasn't knocked down, how he slipped passed defenders. He is thinking, and it's on a level no other player does. As if he has the mind of God. His ability to process the information in front of him is so great, you think he's pure instinct, but he is like a machine. Everything deliberate, exact.
I think Ronaldo has revolutionised football, Strong, electrifying speed and clinical finishing. He would literally destroy teams single handedly his record proves it from all the top leagues he played in he just killed it with his games/goals ratio and his technique with dribbling was relentless at times. Yeah! No player like this today. Maybe Messi comes close...maybe. The arguement for R9 being better is back then football was a contact sports where defenders put leg breaking tackles during every game without so much as a card from a referee. The Neymars, Messis, CR7s, Icardi's of today or the entire Barcelona midfield (5'6" inches tall/130lbs average) would not survive a season in the 1990s. Today's game allow for small fast lightweight wingers and strikers and midfielders.

the two moves from 9:05 to 9:10 are my all time favorite tricks where he leaves the ball behind his heels as he is running away for the defender to try to kick at it but he does what looks like a reverse elastico/step over combo move to put the ball out of reach leaving the defender nothing empty space to kick at...which is how Ronaldo's defenders always end up on the ground from losing their balance.
