The problem to live in louisville is that we need to basically have already won the game to move there making the whole process pointless.
I'd say it is worth it if playing with a big group and you want a more urban gameplay experience. Doing it solo is just a self imposed challenge.

I usually start off in one of the smaller towns and then build up supplies, load it up in a vehicle, and then make my way to Louisville. There is an apartment building right next to a tv studio, I think it's a news station. It makes a pretty good base and with the tv station right next door, you have a large building to escape through if things get bad due to a helicopter event. A good thing to do is use a few homes scattered around Louisville as mini bases too, so you don't lose the main one to a horde during a helicopter event.
Have no idea if Louisville will be a good idea whenever NPCs are added into the game, I know at first it'll be animals, but human NPCs might make Louisville far too dangerous. Depends on the type of NPCs added, if military NPCs are added, Louisville would turn into a deadly game of hide and seek.

    • @dauphongii
      @dauphongii Год назад

Actually lore wise, military aren't the bad guys. Unlike many zombie movies, they are actually trying to save people.
In the initial days of outbreak, they set up a perimeter and restrict entering the area, but for first few days, they would still let you through the border and save you, if you didn't show any signs of being bitten or hurt.
Later, when the initial border gets overrun, they move all the people they saved away from the danger and actually drive through the nearby cities and pick up those who are alive and protect them. They would only become hostile for a few days when the virus starts spreading internationally, but later, they realize that some people have partial immunity against the virus, and from that point onwards, they'd become friendly again.
It's only a shame all the lore of the game is just seen through news channels and not the gameplay itself, as it feels kinda odd when Louisville should be completely fine until day 9, yet when you go there on day 1, it is infected either way.
Only thing it really does is, from that point onwards the radio and TV will buzz to cover up the plot holes, but I feel like it's a cheap design.
I doubt the developers will ever take the time to actually make Louisville a normal town for the initial 9 day period.

I play a server where i sometimes talk with random people over the Ham-Radio. People can be pretty hostile in person so i take this option. Had some young fellas that gone to Louisville and in the start they lost 3 guys. (5 total) other 2 were desperate for supplies though it was a trap. But anyway just dropped some loot near and head back giving them the location of the drop and they were happy with it. They holded up in one of the buildings near the enterance of Louisville i heard and they told me they were gonna go deeper in the city to look for their friends. Told: "Son ur making a deathwish" they said its gonna be fine. Last time i heard them use the radio. Don't go to LV unless ur got a army of supplies and men. Thousands of them. Yeah I'm fairly new (though played 92 hours on the first few weeks) owner of the game and the biggest enthusiasm went away, but now trying my best to live as long as I can as myself. Gave myself all the flaws and traits that fit the real me, my own name, my looks. It feels somehow much more serious to try and see how long you'd actually last.
I also tweaked all the sandbox settings to what I feel like would be the most realistic. That melee weapons would be more plentiful than by default, zombies indeed triggering house alarms too etc.
I also reduced the amount of zombies to 0.26 as, according to some reddit investigations of the zed population, Rosewood+Prison: 5500 zombies by default... So since the real Rosewood Kentucky has a population of 1,489 - 26% of 5500 puts Rosewood at around 1430 zombies. No respawns.
I imagine I won't run out of zombies any time soon either way.
After this, I'll go with the regular zombie counts though.

I have a long term run I'm still playing, and I've made my base in north-west Louisville. It's right up against the north-western coast, against the water. It's a manufacturing building that's between the bourbon factory and some big open industrial spaces with pipes. Across the road from this building is a decent sized forest, and then behind that a bunch of residential homes, including some fancy ones.
It's the perfect spot. It's in Louisville, and it's relatively close to the good lootable spots in north Louisville. There's infinite fishing behind the building. There's trapping and logs in the forest across the road. It's surrounded by open space and isn't next to any high zombie populated spots. There are two gas stations very close by. The building itself has a double garage entrance and flat rooves for farming and water collection.
Just my opinion, but I think it's the best building in the game to make a base.

it's something to work up towards as a player since both the entrance in and city itself is laden with loot.
A place you can mod yourself a spawn position into and use it as an extreme - difficulty setting.
A battleground which tests your skills coming in and sees if you've been paying attention to what Zomboid demands from you; quick reflexes to avoid being chomped from a flanker or quick thinking to dodge a potentially fatal dead-end.
All-in-all, it's a place that's flexible and really cool (though funnily enough, tragic) due to the lore behind it as well.

You'll need a sledgehammer or lader to get through, but you won't encounter the big amount of zombies as the main entrance to the city. Plus, if you go from one of the checkpoints to the main entrance, you will find a small town with houses, which the military converted into a command post and surrounded by high fences, you can settle there, security is 100%.

a tip for new players. start in rosewood. find a car and head to the police station. loot all the ammo you can. prefer shotgun shells with a shotgun. save them for now. head towards the highway and go left when you pass the gas station. follow that road all the way. and 1 point you can turn left or keep going straight. keep going straight and follow that road. if you see a gas station you are close to the army surplus store. raid that one for ammo. now head back to rosewood and make a way to the bookstore. find the books you need. if not you can try the school up ahead. probally day 4 or 5 by now. head toward Muldraught ( to the right from the highway ) and raid the police station there. now.. head towards the lumber base. ( this is even better if you managed to find carpentry books ) and if you are lucky the helicopter will arrive just on time. just keep driving circles till the event stops. and now take out your shotgun and power level aiming. while they are all gone destroy all the crates for carpentry level. ( if you are lucky you find a sledgehammer wich comes usefull in the next part ) after all that is done and you have a sledgehammer ( if not that works too ) head towards West Point. now in Westpoint there is a GIGA-Mart for easy food acces. and a police station. ( wich you can raid obviously ) and a weapon/ammo store behind the pub. ( this is where the sledgehammer comes in ) raid both or any one. make a small base in the pub. and now you can start planning your way towards Louisville and still be strong

The freight warehouses in the north west of Central LV by the Fossoil plant aren't a bad place to hunker down. There is an ungodly amount of metal racking that me and my buddy moved from the warehouse floor up into the offices. They were full of everything you'd need: clothes, books, baseball bats, food, mechanical goods. The security booths to the Fossoil plant also have a couple guns and plenty of ammo. We renovated the whole upstairs office area to include a kitchen, armoury, library and are currently working on a gym with some treadmills we took from the firestation. It will take some time but once your set up, making runs back into the center of LV takes minutes even without a car. Plus there is a gas station a block away. The high chainlink fences all around mean there's only one way in for zeds so security is easy to manage. If anyone's looking for a long-term place to hold out, give it a try.

I usually play in or near Louisville, Early game start is viable but much more dangerous but as the game progresses Louisville would be able to provide sustenance to everything you might need in the later stages of the game. I recommed living off in the outskirts of the Louiseville mall parking lot, as you are near a construction site, trees, residential buildings for food, tools, and other items, on the southern part, and mechanic resources nearby.

Louisville is such a great base location.
If I want to live on the outskirts, the houses by the river in northwest is good and the three fenced in houses with a pond in the east is great. These areas are great for beginners and newcomers of Louisville.
Its more rewarding to live in the city in my opinion though. A S tier base and where I’m currently at is a townhome community in the north east. Completely surrounded by zombie proof fences that you can still hop over except for one small road that leads in and out. Get there early game, wall off that road and completely upgrade it with wood then metal once you get the required skill. You can just park outside the walls and hop the fence and you have a large, completely zombie free community with a big green space, trees, and tons of homes to loot and bunk in. Also, clearing it out is very easy and I’ll see an average of two dozen zombies when I first arrive. Truly underrated base location.

I think that it's one of the things you should eventually do in any run that lasts long enough. Start in Riverside, move to West Point when loot becomes scarce, swing by the firing range near the mall, and then migrate to Louisville. Filling up two trucks with loot and then towing one with the other carefully can make it where you don't really need to worry about being short on supplies in the short term while you're making your way there. You'll definitely want a sledgehammer to break through the fence and loot the military checkpoint on the way but after that you'll be able to complete your journey to Louisville and build your forever base or die trying.

    • @JunohProductions
      @JunohProductions Год назад +1

Oh, and be sure to look for annotated maps. Sometimes you can find one that shows you where a decent starter base or a hidden stash is. One of the ones I found led me to a boarded up house in the fancier homes to the east side of Louisville. It had guns, ammo, food, and some building supplies so I was able to chill in there while staying silent and reading on the second floor.

@@The_Custos Not at the point I'm proposing to break in through. It has fewer zombies, some easy to loot military equipment, and there's a gas pump not far from where you'd be entering. The only tradeoff is that you need a sledgehammer but if you've somehow managed to go 10+ hours without getting one already then you're playing with extremely rare loot settings and got extremely unlucky.

Immediatelly South of central park, across the street from the bar, there is a second story appartment, above an empty office; to the East a bakery and a meat store and furthermore the minimall (which has a hardware store); North of the appartment, to the left of the park entrance, there's a pharmacy, a bookstore and two/three blocks down a pawn shop; immediatelly to the West a farming supplies store, which has growing crops and usually (though not alwyas) a bunch of machetes; and South West of the appartment, behind the farming supplies store, there's a veterinary, which has a GATED PARK and behind it.... a police station!!!!
Best of all... THERES A WALL AROUND IT, though not completely closed off it is pretty much a matter of clearing a few restaurants (3 or 4 of them, including a pizzeria) and 2 car repair shops, one of them is HUGE!!

I have like 1500kgs of varied loot in my base in Rosewood (a lot of it is guns and ammo cans because I use Brita’s). It’s not even just a question of moving most of it, because I obviously don’t need to do that. I just don’t know what it’s gonna be like getting storage set up again with so few trees around for woodcutting and I don’t know what to do about food because gardening is hardly enough to keep your weight up in my experience.

Just up from the crossroads mall is a small area of houses. Two or three streets worth.
That's where I would go (especially once build 42 hits, because NPCs lol)
You can fence off the whole area and turn the houses into shops/accommodation for the NPCs.
Its even good for multiplayer because there are half built homes to finish off if everyone in your group wants a home for themselves.
Plus, the mall is just below you and you are far enough away from the city that the zombies take a while to wander over to you.
Up from there is the three large houses with a black metal fence surrounding it. Its a mini gated community, and one of the three has a small pond you can fish in. It's a way up from there though.

As a solo player it feels like by the time you manage to systematically loot everything in any of the towns, you should be long since fully established long term in the game with a base the zombies cant break into, power supplied by generators, a farm for fresh produce and fruits, and enough canned goods to last for a year or two easy. Meaning by that point anything else you do is busywork or something to do while you wait for a mistake to carry you off despite being able to just sit in your house and exist for the rest of your natural life span. But I can see where multiplayer games would be different as thats like 6x as much food and drink devoured constantly and 6x as much random stuff needed to fully deck out the crew. Going to louisville seems more like an extra challenge mode otherwise. Lots of zombies but lots of loot, meaning you wont likely run out before you get killed or get bored with the game you are running.
