The les is definitely geared more towards experienced players. If you’re inexperienced/ beginner this isn’t for you. Learn the fretboard and the notes. It will help you tremendously. Cheers
I am 70. I stopped playing guitar to raise kids for 35 years. Started again when I was 60. When I first looked at these two solos, I thought I could never learned them, but with some time and your "expert" lesson, I am getting it down......I am very happy. Thank you very much for the best lesson on RUclips by far.
I'll be 69 in a few weeks. I've owned guitars since I was a teenager but I would sometimes go for 10 and 15 years at a stretch without taking them out of the closet. I got the itch again last year this time and I've really been trying to learn this time. I still suck, but I'm having fun buying gear again. lol.
@@TractorMonkeywithJL we are always self critical in our trials brother... keeep strummin' and you'll get it... just a matter of time...and practice...lol i have played my whole life and i still practice 6 hours a week..always something to learn, and its good for the soul...
Has it really been 2 years since someone commented on this lesson? I hope you never got tired of people telling you how awesome of a teacher and player you are! I will take playing with feel over playing fast any day!
I have loved this lead all my life (now 54) and always wanted to learn it. As you say, it's all about the feel and you play and teach it so well. You have given me many hours of pleasure learning each lick, then slowly putting it together. I am truly grateful that people like you (and RUclips) for sharing your talent and allowing others to benefit. I may only be able to play a few songs, but I enjoy feeling as though I could one day play as cleanly and with such feeling as you do and the masters like Carlos. Many thanks!
I've been playing for 52 years and I have never been so impressed with hands on instructions that pinpoint the types of music and songs that had been embedded in my soul! Thanks for your contribution to continue this art!
Amazing!!! I've been learning from this teacher for a few months now. Today he did a live chat reel of clips of all the great songs he's taught. So I scrolled down his video list to see which was his first lesson and found your comment. Not only do we share the same name! but with different spelling, but I ALSO have been playing for 52 years! However, four years after your comment makes it 56 for you! Amazing coincidence!!! Rock on.... PS I fully agree with your comment and JB is only my internet handle.
This is the best Tutorial for Black Magic Woman, period. I am a wannabe guitar player, and it has helped me understand and play this song at an acceptable level. All the nuances that Carlos uses have been broken down and explained where even I could understand. Kudos.....Dude.
You sir are a master of the guitar. I don't understand why anyone would dislike any of your videos. I'm guessing they are just jealous with envy or they must be deaf.
The way you teach is so awesome. I appreciate how you stay true to the album. And the speed at which you go is perfect...I've learned so much from you. I trust you to show me the right way. I've seen others who show you their way. Can't just trust anyone to show you how it's really done. Many thanks....
Here's the real deal. You are the ONLY guitar teacher that is actually playing each note and chord in exactly the right place. Note tones are dictated by what string the note is played on. You are the ONLY one who gets it right!!! That's called LISTENING to the music. That's what truly makes an instructor in this kind of teaching. Good Job!!!
Again... Brilliant, cut-to-the-chase, instruction!! THE BEST on the web!!... Period!! I so appreciate this man sharing his amazing musical abilities!! Thank you sir!!
Your tutorials are AWESOME! I am a long-time bass player (38 years) and just recently started playing guitar in the last few years. I follow your tutorials and have been blowing my friends away!
great job this is one of those songs where all the notes are in their perfect place.. players like santana knew exactly which note to play.. Thanks for showing us how its done
Like you said, Carlos has so much expressive feel in his licks. Some people play really fast but it's very robotic, and other players copy that like it's some kind of achievement. Music is all about expression. Thanks for the lesson, one of my favorite songs. Very well done.
What a spot-on lesson for a song I've always wanted to master lead on! Thanks so much for breaking it down. I'd always skipped a few parts with phrasing to get more speed, but I see from your example that it really pays off to take the time to learn and play them right, period!
Thanks for the nice comment! Yeah it definitely takes a long time to get these things down, but worth in the end as it's such a great way to learn new techniques that you can use in your own playing.
this guy has the best tutorials on the internet period!!!!! he couldn't hold your hand thru the process any more than he does and its faithful to the originals as possible. Hopefully he'll get around to some Stewart TP & YOTC
I started getting into this song and realized how great a guitar player Carlos is......I have been away from guitar for a bit and just started taking lessons after a 15 year hiatus...my instructor is great and finally all these scales/modes are making sense...what happened 15 years ago is beyond me......at 72, I'm making progress ;-))Thanks for the video !
you are a very good and patient teacher I have seen about 20 people teach this song and you my friend,, have emphasized points that all the others have missed wow I thank you
Finally some who took the time to learn the nuances yet keep it himself at the same time. I subscribed because this channel shows EXACTLY how to play songs. People like this are under appreciated guitar slingin'beasts! My inner ear is contented.
Nicely done ... one of the most iconic solos of all time!! True about Carlo's melodic mastery. Herbie Hancock doesn't call him "Mr. Melody" for nothing ... thanks!!
I m in love with ur lessons....honestly...i dont find anyone else's lessons on youtube intriguing...urs r the only one i always look to...n sometimes i just watch demos coz its a pleasure to listen to ur guitar playing...u really r a master...cheers
Great instruction. By playing and explaining clearly, then repeating several times. Worth a donation to keep more lessons coming. Thank you for putting these on youtube S&P!!
Totaly appreciate how well you play this and the breakdowns are great. One of my all time favorite songs and lead guitar riffs. Not easy to get all the pieces right, but making progress. Thanks !
I never played Santana Ever ! But my band decided to play it and now I have to learn it. But I must say that your lesson was great and I thanks you for it. Yous saved me from messing it up. Santana is a great player and a one of a kind guitarist for sure. Thanks again Tad.
Tremendous. I have to completely retool the way I've approached this for 20 years but it will be well worth it. Thanks so much for sharing. And you are so right about Carlos. He is not just a great player but a "stylist" and he communicates so well with economy. I true innovator and creator, in a league with Hendrix, EVH, Billy Gibbons. Abraxas is a true timeless masterpiece. I saw him 4-5 years ago at Foxwoods in CT and they killed. Started with a big band/percussive Latin fusion instrumental segment for about 20 minutes and then played the entire Abraxas album without interruption. 8000 people went absolutely nuts when he finished, sounded like a stadium full of 50000. His wife Cindy, who played drums with Lenny Kravitz for many years, sat in on a few numbers, and she can really hit 'em too!
Excellent!!! Thank you so much! There are so many "wanna bees" out there that are OK but you take instruction to another level. You know what you are talking about and teach in a way that is easily understood. I couldn't agree more about "feeling"the music" and expression. Anyone can play notes, but you have to be able to "feel" what your playing to be great. Thanks again!
stan Startin back at it after 30 years. Never learned to read music. Watched alot of MTV and went through a bunch of needles replaying riffs! Really love the lessons. Great camera view and the simple way you explain the methods. I'd recommend this to anyone. Keep em commin!

good take on Carlos Santana's style which is so subtle and fluid and i find one of the most difficult styles to emulate. as you said he's all about the feel. Santana is an under appreciated great! great lesson as usual!!! thank you!
This is absolutely fantastic instruction and technique! Thank you so much for taking such care, patience and time to walk us all through the details of this awesome, iconic piece. I've been playing since 10 years old, now 56, and always love this song... and now (after much study of your excellent instruction), I can play it nearly flawlessly at speed. Thank you again for the investment of your time and skill on this. What a great feeling to play this now!! : )
I love how you can duplicate the styles and tones of other guitarists. I play myself, although nowhere near your level. I am impressed on your tutorials and your professionalism in guitar and yes you can easily hear the difference of your music compared to others. Thanks so much
Oh lord - nothing like realizing you played this iconic intro in the wrong position for 20 years. The opening G>F pulloff/trill, the D>E slide and the descending figure sound much better down where you play them around the 7th fret than up at the 12th where I did it - maybe I figured I was going to wind up there eventually. No one ever mentioned it. At 90 decibels maybe it didn't matter. Great tone - nice control of your bends. Thanks!
I learned this years ago on tabs - wish I'd had RUclips back then. I guess YT was around but I never thought about coming here to see someone else show how to play this. I've been off my guitar for a long time, so I really want to re-learn this piece.
Thanks for this lesson. Totally accurate and presented in such a way as to make this inexperienced player feel like it’s achievable. The emphasis on feel is spot on. Thanks so much. 👏👏👏

I love this lesson and can't understand how or why anyone could give it a thumbs down. I have you marked and will for sure donate when I get some dough. Thanks. btw.... I hope this stays up for a while, I'm a really slow learner. Your view count should go up a thousand from me alone.
You have an excellent and outstanding way to teach us with great demos of the actual melodies and rythms in each song...Fantastic and thank you ...wonderful styles you achieve...! I am watching closely and you are right on it!

Hi, What a great lesson on a classic song.
Thank's, and keep going.
Hey alyn, thanks for the nice comment and you are welcome for the lesson.
GREAT guitar playing as usual ! Note after note perfect. Can't get much better than that. Great video guitar lesson. Thank you
As a new follower, I'd just like to say what a great teacher and player you are. Sure wish I had the internet when I was a teen!
Thx for sharing. Beautiful tone and melodic feel. Got it, working on the feel now. Singing it helps a lot.
Thank you very much for helping us out. I am enjoying this. Have listened to many others on this song. This is by far the best.
Great lesson! Was able to learn, but tempted to find another video at first. Saying the fret numbers or even notes at times would help. Thanks!
Thanks for the lesson. I’ve wanted to learn this for the past 50 years!
Santana is not a real fast player, but plays with a lot of soulful feel that really makes this song timeless.

so nice to see a tut vid where it's so easy to see what he's playing, thanks for this!
Wow, excellent. Thanks so much. You got that right feel for what Santana is doing. Great tone out of your playing and rig.
Great teaching. When I expect you to move forward in the lesson you go back and explain it again and that's when I get it. wow....
Hey Glemby, glad the vid is helping you and thanks for stopping by.
Santana is a great player no doubt, and so are you my friend. Sounds great! TY
