  • Brian Tyler sits down for his third All Access interview here on Film.Music.Media. We revisit Brian's path to becoming a film composer including how both his undergraduate and master's degree had nothing to do with music despite his childhood and adolescent years being filled with music. We dive in and examine Brian's approach to Crazy Rich Asians and reuniting with director Jon M. Chu. Hear how Brian and Jon came to the conclusion that this score needed to feel like a throwback to the 1940's but also have an organic emotional undercurrent. We also examine Brian's score to Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone, a new series starring Kevin Costner. Brian talks about scoring a modern western and how he didn't want to go the route of either Americana or spaghetti western. Finally we talk about Brian's work for Formula 1 racing and how he brought drama and emotion to one of his favorite sports. Other topics include how to manage confidence vs self-doubt, how director Jon Chu calmed Brian's hesitations for scoring Crazy Rich Asians being a white man, and how Brian deals with criticism online and via social media. It was extremely fun and inspirational to have Brian back as a guest on Film.Music.Media All Access.

I really learned a lot from this interview. Brian Tyler is a great guy all around it. I really felt his heart when he said that writing for film is hard and people just trash talk. I would say to Brian, I know we're just human and we hurt but pay no mind to these types of people or their comments because your music is amazing and if it weren't for people like Brian Tyler and other composers alike that I personally enjoy movies wouldn't have the impact they do. I would love to sit in a class being taught by Brian Tyler, Hans Zimmer, Guy Michelmore and many other God gifted and talented composers as I treasure and love their work that brings to life the movies I watch. To me Brian Tyler is such a humble guy. Keep it up Brian....you're a genius.

I thought this was going to be a repeat of the same questions just like the second interview was - stick with it, it gets better. But then once Brian ends his stories, back we go to the same old questions.

Hey Kaya, how can I get the intro music? Worst case: I can loop it myself since it seems to be a few-seconds loop anyway...

    • @FilmMusicMedia
      @FilmMusicMedia  2 года назад

Hey there! The intro music that is used was something I built using the loop packs in Garage Band. I used to use tracks from the scores of the composer being interviewed, but that always ran into copyright issues with RUclips.
In fact, I just tweaked the intro/outro music with the latest interview with Cristobal Tapia de Veer. I wanted to switch it up a bit, but not change it fully. There really isn't much more than what you hear. I needed it to be short, identifiable, and something I can just fade out after the intro.
I'm not a composer, but it's an original piece I made by messing around with the loop packs in Garage Band. I have no issue if you want to use it, but it's definitely nothing more than a loop that repeats till I fade it out :)
      Cheers!
      -Kaya

Thanks for the profound reply, sire! I just wanted to work to this beautiful music... Also, I like the non-percussive version before the latest interview.
Hey Kaya, listen, I've been fuxing with your channel for roughly a decade now, and I've always wondered how you can easily be the number one source of composer interviews on the interwebs yet not become a composer yourself?!

@@Baqsam Glad you enjoy my fussing around Garage Band to come up with something jazzy and light, haha!
Well, I went in and muted the percussion for you on the new one in case you enjoy that version. I built it out a bit more, plus it has the outro tacked on. So it may be more "listenable" than the original loop.
I also included the old intro plus a version without percussion. They aren't that long, but if you wanna play around and build something with it, by all means!

As for me not being a composer, it's a long story not meant for RUclips comments. But essentially, film music is what made me want to get into filmmaking. I went to film school, moved to LA, spent 11 years out there working. I currently work in production at Cartoon Network Studios, and this channel is what I do in my free time as I feel composers rarely get the spotlight and for me music is the most important part of storytelling. Plus I love to come at it from a filmmaking perspective rather than solely a music one.
Thanks for jumping on this journey for as long as you have! Glad you haven't jumped off this train yet :P
      Enjoy!
      -Kaya

Thanks chief, I especially enjoyed the percussive one and worked to it immediately. I also got to know about WeTransfer! Dropbox competitor much? On a closing note, I'm glad you have progressed in your career and can also sneak in a side venture such as this one. Stay gorgeous! - Your biggest fan from Kuwait
