Caught Mich St. in a lesser era, as they are currently ranked about 30th based on honorable mentions. They should not have even been in this game, but their aggressive play and KU counting the win at the 1:00 minute point made it closer. Izzo made them better. Congrats Self on historical umm 591st win, though.
Yes, but you can never count out Michigan State because Izzo’s players always play hard for him. Izzo is an amazing coach. That’s why he’s been to about 8 Final Fours and won the Natty in 2000.
@@wiltchamberlainisthegoat13 Oh, of course. With their generally assertive play, Mich. St. could beat anybody when they shoot decent. Had MSU shot about 50% fg, they probably would have beat the finesse leaning deep bench jhawks. Yeah, Izzo always has his team prepared no matter what their situation is.
Cool stat. When you look at those records though you can see what makes this classic so great. These teams win. So matching them up like this every November is great.
@@jkckmarcumful Here’s another stat. Kansas started out 1-4 after 5 seasons of the Champions Classic. And now they are 9-5. So Kansas has gone 8-1 these past 9 seasons. Kansas’ only loss the past 9 seasons was by 2 points against Duke 68-66 in 2019 due primarily to a controversial late foul call on Kansas that appeared not to have occurred on instant replay.
@@wiltchamberlainisthegoat13 yes, sometimes there's some bad/missed calls in these classic games but it seems like for the most part the refs let them go at it and usually bite their whistles on a tough play at the cup. I've always thought that when you get 2 of the blue bloods going at it that it's best for the refs to let them go. Not let really bad stuff go but you know what I mean. Let the ticky tack stuff go that gets called sometimes, and just let them throw down.
As always, Thank you Draftmatic!!!! You are a rockstar!

Btw, don’t forget, UConn was unranked when the 2022-2023 season tipped off, and they went on to win the National Championship.

@ I agree. I heard that the Champions Classic will be continuing through at least 2028, but I hope it continues beyond that.
