The Kiowa Warrior is a unique helicopter known for the large beach ball shaped imaging system on top of its rotor. It takes many skilled hands to maintain these special scout birds. These crew chiefs take pride in their work knowing that they contributed to 6,494 successful missions with 112,000 flight hours. Includes sound bites from Sgt. One of these birds landed in the yard next to my house in Felsberg, West Germany. After securing their machine, the two Lieutenants, visited my wife and me and had coffee and waffles. They then flew back to their maneuver by Bad Hersfeld. That was 1985!

You are correct sir! except for the Notar Helicopter (another design). I spent many years as a crew chief in the Army. Cant remember how many times I asked people to back away from the moving tail rotor. People just get mesmerized by the sound and movement.

Cool aircraft! Could definitely be used on Southern Border area against cartels. Armed withnight vision ,rockets, and machine guns. A cavalry air troop together with a company of US .Army Rangers backed up by Delta Force guys would bea real potent force!

No, Kiowas are scout helicopters, not attack helicopters! Currently they are being upgraded to OH-58F standard so they can remain in service till 2025.
There also exists Kiowa OH-58 Block II helicopter which is Bell's attempt to win contract in Armed Aerial Scout(AAS) program, which recently received green light, but there are several other candidates too...
Remain in service until 2015 is more like it lol
Liked the video, but could not hear any of the audio other than the sounds of the engines. Is the Kiowa Bell's competitor to the Apache Longbow? Saw the same type 'above rotor' radar/visual detection as the Apache.
No, they work alongside each other, Kiowa scouts and seeks about, and calls in the Apache
What I see is that he's fan of a great movie.
I'm wondering why he had to Back out of the pad ? Seems safer to pull forward, which he would have be able to do if he'd rotated 180 degrees when he'd landed. Sure, the Crew Chief was watching his 6, but Still.
Crew Chief, pls don't become complacent around that tail rotor. Like any machine /AI, it's not that it hates you or wants to kill / mangle you, it just simply doesn't care one way or another. YOU have to care. Stay SAFE. ☆

Mast Mounted Sight (MMS) is a camera and laser designator, put there so that it can look over the top of cover (buildings, trees, hills etc) without exposing the whole aircraft.
