Please do a video similar to this one about Haig Fras and the cornubian batholith. I live on the mainland, next to the political border of Devon and Cornwall within sight of a mine that had a geothermal spring in its deepest workings ( Wheal Martha consols). You could probably do video ( after planning) of both Devon and Cornwall in ten to fifteen minutes tops . Also happy Xmas .
I love how huge the Kerguelen are. Its main island is the third biggest French island, behind only Grand Terre (the main island of New Caledonia) and Corsica, and bigger than Martinique, Guadeloupe, Tahiti, Reunion Island... It's also really unusual, being very much at the border between the Antarctic Ocean and Indian Ocean (depending on the definition you take). Its name is also resolutely French (Britton to be precise) but at the same time, one doesn't necessarily expect France to have such a big piece of land there in the South. Also, it looks like a place with landscapes like no others. Makes you dream!
What great timing! The sailors in the round the world Vendee Globe race just passed Kerguelen in their journey around Antarctica. These boats also collect valuable ocean climate data.

Atlas pro has a simmilar theory about meteor strikes making vulcanic hot spots. Hawaii is directly opposite a huge meteor strike in south africa. And as the tectonic plate slides over the hot spot it creates islands. Neat 😁
2:45 "... only ten thousand cubic kilometers of molten rock ..." We know the subject is geology when ten thousand cubic kilometers of anything is considered to be "only" 🙂
I first heard about Kerguelen when I read "Biggles Second Case"" when I was a boy. A gripping tale of a Nazi U-Boat commander who refuses to surrender after the war is over and hides out in the seas surrounding Kerguelen with some ill gotten gold. Stirring stuff.
Hi GH, thanks for this amazing account of the rise and fall of Kerguelen. I had absolutely no idea that McDonald and Heard Islands and Bunbury, would have even been mentioned in this one! Mind blown 🤯 Keep up the great work!
Wow... Zealandia, Kerguelen... How many more submerged and partially submerged continents will we find! As a resident of Zealandia (above sea level), I'm fascinated by these micro-continents!
Thanks as always, Geology Hub! It is lovely that you covered these fascinating islands and the microcontinent the are part of; I wonder if the Kerguelen plateau is an example of how much of today's continental crust formed, and what will happen to it in the Geological future. The 90-East ridge and Broken ridge are a testament to how India moved northward. The Broken Ridge and the area immediately surrounding it must be studied further, both for geological understanding and the possibility that Malaysian Airlines Flight MH 370 may be there...
Reiterating a prior suggestion to do a hypothetical about a modern day flood basalt event starting and the effects it would have both locally to where it kicked off and globally as time went along.
Hi, Neon here. While we're in the antarctic region, I would like to suggest a theme for a future video, The Crozet Islands. they're a funky group, have fun.
Kerguelen Plateau … a geologically powerful place … along with other plateaus around the world! The antipode of Kerguelen Plateau is … Yellowstone region!
Imagine the fossilized creatures and plants that must lie there, hopelessly inaccessible (that is, if there are any fossil-bearing sedimentary rocks there)
The volcano is showing increased activity and magma seems to be approaching the surface. I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious. Peaceout.

Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!

I'm happy I am not forced to live on an isolated research station, thousands of miles away from human civilization.
Have you seen those crazy humans lately?
Honestly, right now, I wish I was.
Looks nice to me.
You wouldn't be forced but would need to volunteer
It's not that bad.
Incrediable to think such a large volume of land is no longer above the waves!
Kergeulen, got it! Always something amazing I had no idea about in this big big world.
Yay! Now do Doggerland and Greater New Zealand!
Zealandia!
Wow! Thank you, GH.
I shall name thee ... Númenor!
Fascinating, thank you. I read about this island group in a Biggles book over 50 years ago.🎉

I love this channel and your soft way of speaking. Learning and relaxation in one package.
It's an ai voice. Listen to it pronounce certain words phonetically.

I often listen a 2nd time to view the amazing informative graphics and graphs.
Ah yes, that Kerguelen Island is also very close to the Yellowstone Caldera's antipode, the original reason I looked at it.

Imagine if we still had it today, it would've been a mega South Hemisphere Iceland.
More like Hawaii.

Nice, like rockall, you could do another video about it

Wow. I had wondered if any large "land masses" had ever been subducted under other plates. I had never heard this amazing story. Thanks, as always.

Kerguelen Island was always one of my favourites to explore, learning about remote islands through Google Maps and Wikipedia.

Fascinating!
I find the whole subject of isostatic geographic rising and lowering fascinating. Especially as it relates to the timing of cyclical cataclysms.
Interesting. Honestly never heard of it before.
That's where the horn resounding is!
You're tuly amazing in your job. You found the Atlantis and explained to us how it was created and how it was destroyed! 😮🙇👍❤

0:18 - Wouldn't the shallowest points remaining of this landmass be the shores of the islands that still exist?
Thank for the interesting video and my comment for the algorithm 😊🍀

to think we could have had 2 new zealands...
Earthquake swarm at Salton Buttes earlier today
There is nothing micro about the Kergeulen plateau.
Yes I have wondered is it a lost continent like Zealandia, and I am so interested in how it looked like, like biomes etc

i am currently studying the Siletzia LIP with Nick Zentner. i'd love to learn about the worlds other LIP's from You !:-)
When can we expect the next LIP?
@geologyhub. You do not mention why the plateau submerged ? Is it due to thermal subsidience ? Thanks
GET READY!
How did this affect, or was affected by, the collision of India and Asia 50 myo?
“7.9% larger than Delaware”
That’s about as “in the weeds” as you can get with the details.
😂
Great video. It's pronounced "Ker-gay-len", btw, not "Ker-guh-len".
Kerguelen; The place to go to truly get away from it all!
So, a whole continent can sink below the waves?
Imagine the fossilized creatures and plants that must lie there, hopelessly inaccessible (that is, if there are any fossil-bearing sedimentary rocks there)
I just watched the series "La Palma" and I was wondering if it is really possible if 2 ends of a tsunami cancel each other out, like in the series?
Fully sunken?
Shallowest spot is submerged?
What about Heard Island?
McDonald Island?
Would have been something for us to fight over I would venture to guess :/
Kip!! That's what this dude sounds like. This dude is Napoleon Dynamites brother.

Why be so nasty? It doesn’t do anything for you. 🍀🍀🍀
@user-pw6ei2mn7x who's being nasty? What are you talking about?
Pangea !
